Chapter 1 July
It doesn’t feel like it’s been four months since I didn’t go to campus anymore. Did I drop out? Or maybe you think I couldn’t afford the tuition fees? no. I am not in college anymore because I have graduated from my college. The major I study is biotechnology. What is biotechnology? biotechnology is the study of biology itself. Then, if biotechnology studies biology, then how is it different from other people who study biology at the pure biology faculty? Hmm ... an interesting question.
The difference is that biotechnology is about the real world applications of biology too. How can biology be applied in the industrial world. In fact, I also studied chemistry because in biotechnology, it is not only biology that is applied but also chemistry itself. So, biotechnology is a science that involves chemistry and biology into one? That means biotechnology is a difficult science, right? Connect two complex subjects. Not really, in my opinion, there is no difficult knowledge. Everything only depends on each individual that exists. If the individual has a strong intention to learn something, I believe he will be able to even though the material is quite difficult to learn. Have you ever heard of EQ, IQ? many people think that the two are different things because IQ is synonymous with reasoning ability while EQ is synonymous with emotional ability and feeling.
Rational thinking and feeling are, of course, two different things, right? I used to think like that too but who would have thought that EQ and IQ were related. I once read a book about EQ which said that if people have more feelings about something (where EQ works because it relates to feelings), then they will study it with all their chance and end up understanding that person of the knowledge they are learning. The effect is that the person’s IQ increases because their reasoning skills are better than before. Look! A person’s emotions can make people understand something that may be difficult for others. Emotion also affects a person’s IQ indirectly. Isn’t that an interesting thing. Maybe this can be a hope for all of us to be better at something that requires a high IQ such as studying mathematics, physics, chemistry, even biology! How beautiful I have learned these 12 years from elementary, middle, high school, and college. Every subject has a philosophy to make my life better. Thank you!
However, who would have thought, now I’m just a loser. It’s been four months, I’ve never been closing the deal. I am a real estate agent selling houses, apartments and land. Wait a minute, you are a biotechnology graduate but why are you a property agent? Aren’t you better off being a Quality Control, Research and Development, Marketing lab tool? I know you guys might think that my mind is crazy enough to take a job that doesn’t fit what I’m studying but I have plans and dreams that are quite clear and can make the world of research even better.
The first step I had to take was to enter the realm of property. Why ? I’ll let you know when the time comes. Never closing makes me tired even I thought about what if I have to apply for a job? I have to follow people? I can’t freelance like this. I have to work, real job. In the past, I thought that work was a good thing. Just imagine, you have your own money and you use the money without worrying that your parents will scold you because the money is the result of your hard work, not them. You can buy computer games on Steam, Playstation, Xbox, or whatever. You can play to your heart’s content without worrying about whether there will be a test tomorrow or not.
The reality is it’s not like that, yes you get money every month but you now have responsibilities, to support your family, your partner if you are a couple, not to mention that you won’t see your friends anymore because they are already in the middle of nowhere. That’s what I experienced, July is a month full of loneliness. Where I live, Surabaya, is a quiet place because many people go home at that time. I’m quite happy that my city has become quiet, I don’t have to worry about traffic jams.
Unfortunately, this pleasure can only be enjoyed by myself. I couldn’t feel it with my friends anymore because they had all gone to their respective hometowns. I’m all alone in this lonely city. Moreover, at midnight, you can feel the cold temperature which is quite cool. At midnight in July, I usually go around the city of Surabaya to see how quiet it is. If there is a place to eat open, I go there and eating while looking at the lonely road. July, oh maybe I’ll be like this forever. The absence of friends, partners, and just myself struggling to achieve dreams in a lonely place even though it will be crowded again because people return to work in this place. This is a new chapter of my life, forever midnight in July.
