Chapter 1: The Popular and The Mysterious

Lark walked through the halls of Killwaters high with a smile. People greeted her as she passed and she greeted them back with a smile.

0

"Lark, are you going to coach the girls volleyball team again this year." Asked a short girl with blonde hair.

0

"No I'm sorry this year I'm actually going to coach the boys basketball team." Lark smiled kindly.

0

"Oh that's so cool that you know how to coach and play so many sports." The girl gushed.

0

"Thank but I'm sure you can do more impressive things than me. I've heard your history reports. You really are amazing." Lark complimented, tucking a piece of her brown and blue hair behind her ear. The girl blushed and thanked Lark, walking away flustered.

0

Just then the doors slammed open to reveal the netoriously mysterious red-head, Holden Garns. He strutted past the students and bumped into Lark making her drop her books. This caused her to fall and him to trip over her foot.

0

"What the actual fuck. You just tripped me. Who do you think you are?" Holden exclaimed.

0

"Um excuse me. You ran into me. You could at least apologize." She huffed.

0

Everyone in the hallway stopped to see what was going to happen. Holden was known for his short temper, and Lark was known for being sarcastic and a bit snarky at times.

0

"Why would I apologize? You were in my way." He scoffed.

0

"Yeah and your ego is in the way of my path to class it's so big. So do us all a favor and turn it down a notch. The rest of us would like to go on with our lives without you in our way and bringing us down."

0

And with that she grabbed her books and walked to the cafeteria to meet her friends for breakfast. But not without bumping her shoulder into his.

0

Lark's ice blue eyes sparkled when she spotted her friends at their table laughing away. She walked up to them and sat down with a smile.

0

"So I heard you had a run in with Holden Garns. How'd that end?" Asked Sasha Narson, president of the schools newspaper club. The dark skined, black and pink haired girl knew everything. She new about all the schools gossip, everyone's business, private or otherwise. She new absoulty everything that went on in the school and with the people in it.

0

"I hear he's planning on joining the basketball team this year." Added Kelcey Stancen, president of the art club, as she twirled her light brown hair around her finger and blew a bubble with her gum.

0

"I don't think that guy understands what team work is." Stated Parker Shotter, president of film club, as he pointed to Holden over at the snack bar pushing through a bunch of teens in line.

0

"Well, I'll but him in his place." Lark said matter-of-factly as she crossed her peachy arms and grinned. As student president she new how to take charge.

0

"I believe in you bunny." Said Kent Phillips, vice president of the kick boxing club.

0

And those were the popular kids. Though not because of how petty and beautiful they all were. No, it was because of how kind, smart, and caring they all were. Not to mention pretty funny when they made snide comments or sarcastic remarks.

0

Holden then sat at the table across from Lark's with his best friends Chase Lawford, Ethan Timberson, and Faith Clambers.

0

Once he sat down he glared daggers at Lark and Ethan noticed. "Bro, why are you glaring at Lark?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and a mouth full of eggs.

0

"You know her?" Holden questioned in true curiousity.

0

"Umm everyone does. She the most popular girl in school and coaches all sorts of different sports teams. I hear this year she's coaching the basketball team." Said Chase with a smirk.

0

"You mean the basketball team you guys convinced me to join this year?" Holden growled.

0

"Why are you so interested in her all of a sudden. Does someone have a crush?" Faith teased. "I mean I wouldn't blame you, she's hot as hell, I would totally bang her, but I think she's straight so I'm shit out of luck." The blonde girl sighed as she wiped a fake year from her brown eyes.

0

"The bitch bumped into me this morning." He growled.

0

"That's not how I heard it." Faith said sitting on the table and swinging her legs as she drank her smoothie.

0

"And what did you hear?" The red-head asked glaring daggers at her.

0

"That you bumped into her, she fell, you tripped over her, and started yelling at her to which she made a snarky reply and walked away, leaving you pissed." Faith said with a smirk and mischief in her brown eyes.

0

"Whatever. We need to get to tryouts." Said Chase standing up and streching.

0

"Let's get this over with." Holden groaned.

0

They walked into the large green walled gym to see rows of guys there for tryouts.

0

"Thirty bucks says most of these guys can't really play and just here 'cause Lark is coaching." Said Ethan.

0

"Bro there's not even a point in beting. We all know it's true." Chase said, to which Ethan just nodded.

0

Once the three boys lined up too Lark spoke up.

0

"Welcome everyone to basketball tryouts. As most of you know I'm Lark Spensers, and this is my older brother Christain. We'll be coaching the basketball team this year. We can only take eighteen players so we will be picky and tryouts will be hard. I'll demonstrate what to do." Lark spoke with a smile.

0

She then grabbed a ball off the rack, dribbled it across the court only for Christain to block her. She then threw the ball over his head and slid under him. She grabbed the ball, then shot it from the free throw mark, making it in.

0

Everyone stood there in shock, even Holden was surprised.

0

Lark to a deep breath then smiled and spoke. "Now let's begin."
