Chapter 1
Karuika sat up in her bed, on one fine, and perfectly normal Monday morning, and rubbed her eyes drowsily. Her alarm clock sounded again. And she quickly reached for it as she stumbled out of bed. She stretched her arms and flapped her wings a few times. "Huuuu..." she sighed. It was another boring school day. She trudged to the bathroom to clean herself up.
She came out wiping her face with a peach coloured towel and thought, Time to eat my favourite dish for breakfast! She skipped toward the kitchen table and with a wave of her hand, she magicked a piece of toast toasted to the perfect crisp, and with smooth, chocolatey spread dolloped on top. "Mmmmmm," as she licked her lips and started attacking the piece of toast with her hands. In less than a few seconds, her plate was empty except for a few bread crumbs. She hastily pulled on her school uniform, grabbed her bag, and went out the door.
The sun was beating down on Karuika as she arrived at school. Her best friend, Pennie, who was an elf, waved at her from the other side of the field. Karuika flew towards her and landed softly on the grass. "HIIIIII!!!!" shouted Pennie, her golden eyes gleaming as a wide grin spread across her face. "Good you came on time today, otherwise Miss would have to shout at you again," Pennie said as she smiled awkwardly. Her pointed ears twitched as she turned her head around and stared at the Common Building of the school. "Looks like assembly is starting!!! Come on! Let's go!" Pennie exclaimed as she magicked a cloud and stepped onto it. The cloud levitated for a second and then sped off in the direction of the Common Building. Karuika, barely able to fit in a word all conversation, flapped her azure blue wings several times to keep up with Pennie and her floating cloud.
As the dark oak doors flew open and students started filing in, Pennie and Karuika had just come about the corner. "Just in time." breathed Karuika, as she panted and huffed. Pennie merely stared at her and calmly stepped off her hovercloud and chuckled. "Next time you better remind me to get two of these." she smirked at Karuika who now was stumbling into the building.
It was the first Monday of Term 1, 1st Grade, so things were a little different from when Karuika was in Kindy. They first had to go to an Assembly, which was now where they were.
Karuika sat down on a chair next to Pennie and waited for the teachers to file in and start the Assembly. The host, obviously, was the Headmistress, Miss Lockmot, a thin, tall woman with thin lips but a warm smile, her blonde, silvery hair was always tied in a plait, and her eyes were emerald green. She was a Pixie, (a person with elf ears and fairy wings. They are very powerful, as they have both the features of an Elf, and a Fairy. ) and was now standing at the lectern clearing her throat to get the school's attention. "Ahem! Good morning students, and welcome to the first Assembly of the year! This Assembly won't take very long, I will just explain the different teachers you will have this year, Year 1, and will explain the going on's that will be happening soon as well." she said shrilly, as her high pitched voice resounded from the hollow walls of the Common Building. "First, I will introduce Mr. Kruul, an advanced teacher of Magic and Spells, which I think that most of you will find interesting."
Mr. Kruul stood up and walked up to the lectern as Miss Lockmot gave way. As the spotlight shone onto him, Karuika and Pennie could both see that he was a centaur, with a burgundy coloured coat and a matching beard. he was wearing a black blazer and a white shirt, with a professional-looking red tie around his neck. "Hello, Year 1! And welcome back to Mythical School for Magical Creatures! I'm going to be your Magic and Spells teacher! I'm sure I am going to learn all about you guys in a few coming weeks! Can't wait!" he exclaimed in such a bubbly tone, most of the new Year 1's looked quite shocked. He grinned cheerily at all of the Year 1's again and cantered back to his seat. Miss Lockmot came back into view again and announced; "Next, we have your Health and Wellbeing teacher, Mrs Tanaka!"
A plump and rosy-cheeked little fairy stood up to the lectern and said; "Ohayou! Wonderful Year 1's! I shall be your sensei for the Health and Wellbeing Department! I'm sure we will get to know each other soon and have a lot of fun!" Most of the students looked very confused as Mrs Tanaka was speaking a foreign language but looked relieved to hear that at least there was one normal toned teacher that would be teaching them a subject.
In the next 30 minutes, a lot of other teachers were introduced such as Miss Briens, who taught Creature Anatomy and SPARK, and Mr Popkos, who taught Magical History of Foreign Creatures and Fruits and Dishes for Creatures, Mrs Lakool, who taught Portal Making, Superstition and Fortune Telling, Mr Frtyui, who taught Astronomy and Potion Making, and finally, Miss Hora who taught PETS and Care of Pets.
Miss Lockmot signalled to the chalkboard that suddenly appeared at the centre of the stage. "Houses will be assigned according to roll order. People with last names that start with A-F will be in Lukag, G-L will be in Kirroi, M-R will be in Muvret and S-Z will be in Peshling.
"That is all." said Miss Lockmot, and exclaimed immediately after, "Oh! And, all Pixies, Pegasi and Fairies who want to join the school SPARK team, please proceed to Miss Briens office at 2nd half of lunch, please. Okay, now you may proceed out of the building. Make sure that you receive your timetable from Mr Kruul on your way out." and the Headmistress walked off the stage and out the door to her office.
"Well, that was one hell of an Assembly," Pennie said tiredly. "Nearly half the day is gone because of it!" "I know right?" Karuika sighed deeply. She and Pennie wove their way through the crowd and made their way to Mr Kruul to get their new Year 1 timetables.
