Oceans, Ghosts, and Green eyes

(Recommended song to listen to; safe and sound by Taylor Swift, flightless bird by iron and wine)

“Stop! Please!” She struggled desperately against the rough, calloused hands of the captain. “I’ve done nothing wrong!” Her shouts were left unheard as the snickering crew led her to her death sentence.

“You hear that boys! She’s said she done nothing wrong.” He gripped her uneven, short cut hair, “little girls like you know the consequences of sneaking on a pirates ship. He shoved her head forward, leaving a crick in her neck. She groaned lowly, her eyes clamping shut from the oncoming headache.

The only thing keeping her awake now was the rolling thunder and ruthless rain pounding her skin like bullets. Lightning cracked above her head and men started shouting.

“Get it over with goddamit! I need men over here!” The sailors cries were barely heard over the thunder, but the men started dragging her faster. “Throw her overboard!”

“Please no! Don’t do this to me!” She kicked her legs, flailed, anything, but nothing worked. She tried elbowing them, spitting at them but nothing. If anything they just got angrier.

Closer and closer she got to the edge of the plank. She felt panic rise up in her, and she found herself unable to speak, too lost in the sight of the angry sea battling the ship’s sides. She felt a hand at her back and her feet slipped.

Time slowed down, and she was hyper aware of the rain breaking her skin. The men’s voices faded out, replaced by her own heartbeat, pounding against her eardrums. She wanted to close her eyes, so desperately to just let death take her right then and there, but she couldn’t.

She heard a scream echo through the sky, maybe it was her own, her last plea before accepting death. She desperately tried to surface, her bound hands struggling to cut loose. Waves crashed against her and rocked her violently, forcing her underwater.

Her lungs ached, but her mind wouldn’t let her open her mouth in take in water. In the corner of her vision she saw a figure swimming towards her. She felt panic, that her death would be gruesome. But as it drew closer she felt peace engulf her. A humbled soul whose known nothing but misery.

Vibrant blue eyes met her own, calm oceans and blue skies dancing in their iris. Their skin was a sickly green pale, but the closer they got, the more she accepted her fate.

"Shhhh. Just sleep.”

A pair of pale hands cradled her head, a soft lullaby escaping their lips. She was sinking, lower and lower into the deep abyss her body would call home. Her eyes closed, listening to their song.

“Just close your eyes. The sun is going down.”

Her lungs ached, and white dots littered her vision. No more please.

“you’ll be alright. No one can hurt you now.”

their voice faded away, and her senses felt dull, dying with her. the last thing she felt were a pair of arms holding her close before the world went black, and the only thing filling her lungs was the salt water of the oceans.
