The Arrival
During autumn season, in an open country field, an old man was sitting in a dilapidated bench. The strong winds were continuously billowing his robes. He seemed to be staring at the endless, slow sunset.
He wore an emerald green overcoat. His wistful eyes were eagerly waiting for something beyond our eyes. Albeit his wistful eyes there was a smile tugged on those lips. His hands were calloused and his face was freckled. He was paler than usual. He had white hair and those dark blue eyes had lost its sparkle.
He was on his own reverie and memories started to fill his eyes. There was a little boy around six years old with blonde hair and dark blue eyes were full of zest, curiosity and naughtiness. He was pale. He was being chased by a women on her late twenties. She was beautiful and wore an elegant, red dress. She had similar features to that of the boy. They were in a park which was filled with greenery and the grass were soft and were full of happy families. The woman was smiling and said, “Charlie! I’m going to catch you.”
The boy responded with equal happiness, “No, you can’t catch me.” The laughter of the boy filled the air.
Now, the boy was a teenager. He was running around the house, picking up his bags and was darting towards the front door and when a sweet woman’s voice called after him, ” Good luck for today’s speech at school.”
He replied, “Thanks mom. Gotta go. Bye”, and shut the door behind him.
It was winter season, the young boy now was grown into a fine young man. He was muscular and strong with the same blonde hair but longer and those blue eyes were that of the crashing oceans. He was linking his arms with a petite young woman with ink black hair and gorgeous green eyes. She was fair and was wearing a sapphire blue, long winter coat. They were walking down a street filled with shops. They entered a boutique with a sound of bell tinkling while the door opened. They were welcomed into the boutique. They were now searching through the overcoats section. Charlie called for the woman,” Sabrina, what are you searching for?”
" I am looking for an overcoat”
He was clearly confused, ” Why you already have three?”
“No silly, I am buying an overcoat for you.”
" May I ask why you are buying me a overcoat?”
She picked out an emerald green overcoat, beaming with happiness to show him, ” I want to get it for you as an engagement present.” She showed off her diamond ring around her finger.
He grinned and said, “I already got my biggest present in my life when I got engaged to you.”
“Stop it, you stealth romance attacker. Try this on. ” He wore the overcoat. She was clearly mesmerized by the look from those sparkling eyes. She embraced her fiance, “You look fantastic. I cannot take my eyes of you.”
“So, you mean you only find me attractive with this coat on. I thought you loved me for me.” He said with a sarcastic smirk.
She only smacked on his back, “I loved you for being yourself and being there for me when I needed the most.”
She pulled him down into a slow kiss and let herself melt in the kiss. It was a brush of lips which assured themselves about their love for each other and let each other know that they were there for each other. The kiss slowly turned into more ferocious kiss letting each other know about their emotions that words cannot describe. The desperation of air made her gasp and she let him explore her mouth. He bit her soft, plump lower lip. They walked out of the boutique smiling and linked their hands and curled their fingers around.
Then the couple grew together. She was now pregnant and he was caressing her stomach and kissed her forehead. Now they received their child. The family grew older and created memories together. The little boy started growing into an amazing young man and left his parents after marrying a beautiful women and went with his wife to a new home. The older couple lived their lives happily and frequently were visited by their children and grandchildren. The woman passed away and the old man was left alone in the country house where they lived during their retirement.
Now he returns to the present day, sitting on the bench alone and was wearing emerald green overcoat. He sighed out of longing. He wanted to meet his son but he had not called him to come. He was staring at the sunset dimming into the horizon. He turned around and noticed a car pulling over and saw a handsome man coming out of it. He smiled with all the strength left in his body. The man sat beside Charlie and said while grinning broadly, “Hey Dad.”
Charlie studied the man’s face with happiness filling his eyes and making them dazzle. The man said, “I know I didn’t let you know I was coming. I wanted to see you. You know.... I... I... had this urge to see you that I couldn’t pass. So, here I am. So.... Surprise!”
Charlie put his arm around the man’s shoulder and said, “I wished to see you but I didn’t call you. So I lost hope and decided that you wouldn’t come. But here you are. You came for me. You came here and now I am going to face what comes next with the satisfaction of seeing you. I want to let you know that I love you and if your mother was here with us now she would have let you know that she loved you more.” Charlie leaned on his son’s shoulder and closed his eyes.
The man turned to embrace his father but Charlie’s heart stopped beating and his eyes were shut. The man’s eyes started watering and he failed to hold back his tears and the tears started to roll down his cheeks. He embraced his father, even though he knew his father wouldn’t hear but he still said with his broken voice, “I love you too,Dad.” He hugged him till the sunset was over and the moon started to raise from the horizon.
