Genesis

Violins played a piano tune in the next room. As if their music notes wandered around the room, lazily waiting for it to happen. The piano then joined in the wait. Their melodious symphony, a symbiotic dance. She pretended to read her book but her eyes kept drifting off the pages, and onto the dust particles that fell all around her.

She had been sitting in the library room since the early sunrise, a cup of tea now cold keeping her company as she got lost in her thoughts. The sunlight now flooded most of the room, warming her skin as a smile grew on her face. Any time now, the warriors were coming out. She was coming out. Watching Kyde was one of the most mesmerising views. The way she seemed to flow, seamlessly like water down a stream, yet strong like the fall of a waterfall; the way her scythe and her became one and an extension of the other. The violins ominously started playing in crescendo.

Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the mass of black geared warrior walk into the court yard. She instantly recognised her short black hair amongst her companions. The white strand amidst the black curtains that crowned her head, stood out like a blot of ink on a white canvas. Her heartbeat matched the violins’ tune.

She picked up her scythe. She picked up her quill.

Armed, she streaked words across the blank canvas of the parchment like Kyde streaked invisible ink on the blank canvas of the sky. Blood rushed across their veins, adrenaline burning through the body. Their hands felt tingly with exhilaration. The violins seemed to be playing louder, as though the electricity that seemed to flow on their veins, also flowed on their cords.

Kyde jumped into the air, twisting around the elated musical notes, Nyx’s quill twirled on the paper. As Kyde’s descend commenced, the violins rushed as if in a hurry to fit their story in before her feet collided on the floor. And then it happened. Kyde’s scythe collided against the cracking floor. The music, the adrenaline and all the rush stopped abruptly. Everything was over as quickly as it had started. Nyx’s back collapsed against the back of the chair. A sigh escaped her lips. Her breathing irregular. She looked out of the window, Kyde looked up to the window. A smile drew on her face.
