Chapter One
STELLA:
Beep. Beep. Beep. I slap my hand on my alarm clock and groan.
“Rise and shine,” Peter says, pushing my door open aggressively so it slams against the wall. “I made you breakfast.
“Aww you shouldn’t have, is it pop tarts?” I say sarcastically, still laying in bed.
“No it’s a knuckle sandwich now get up, we’re leaving in 15 minutes.” I roll my eyes as he leaves my room and heads downstairs.
I grab a white t-shirt, red flannel, and jeans and start the shower. Since I woke up late, I only get in to rinse off, and then get out. I practically throw my hand across the countertop and grab my hairbrush to brush through my knotted, wavy, dirty blonde hair. A beanie will do, I think to myself.
I don’t usually wear makeup but I put a little mascara and concealer on to cover up the fact that I haven’t slept in over a week.
“Let’s go!” I hear Peter yell from my garage. I grab a piece of toast from the kitchen counter and my backpack. By the time I get to my garage, Peter is standing on my driveway with his skateboard and mine.
“Finally.” He rolls his eyes and I rip my skateboard from his hands and skate down our small neighborhood. As we get to a stop sign, I go to turn the corner and Peter grabs my beanie from my head and throws it at me.
“Woahhhh,” He says sarcastically. “Big forehead alert.” I roll my eyes and swerve my skateboard in front of him. I look at him and scrunch my face, he hates when girls do that. But, he smiles back at me.
As I turn back around and there’s a car coming straight towards me. I quickly ollie onto the sidewalk and grab my board. I squint my eyes to see who was driving and it’s Josh Parker, the hottest guy in our grade. I blush and tuck my hair behind my ear as he rolls down his window.
“Hey,” he says with a worried look on his face. “Are you okay? I’m so sorry I dropped my phone, and I was-”
“It’s all good.” I say, cutting him off. I can see Peter in the corner of my eye, he looks upset. Dare I say jealous?
“Hey, I’m having a party on the Friday before the ceremony, would you want to come?” my heart drops when I hear that sentence. The Joshua Parker wants me at his party, let alone at his house?! It must be a dream.
I think he sees that I’m hesitating, so I gather my thoughts and say “Oh yeah definitely. I’ll be there.” He smiles and nods his head.
“Sweet.” He winks at me, rolls his window up, and drives away.
I continue to have the biggest smile on my face as I ride my skateboard down the street. I look at Peter and he is still upset about something. I frown and study his face. He has brown curly hair, green eyes, and a sunburnt face sprinkled with freckles.
“What?” he says angrily. He pulls down his baseball cap, and pushes himself to go faster. It always makes me upset when he’s sad.
“I’ll buy him ice cream from Freddy’s after school to cheer him up,” I think to myself. “It always does.”
