Chapter 1

The smell of burning air and the cries of lost soul lived the creature of darkness. As the low growls became more and more near to a cave that only held the bright light of all. The moon was only din enough to be able to see the beast's eyes. Slowly, the creature walked towards to see the rippling water flow. When the creature looked down, all was seen a girl. Curly hair, brown eyes, dark skin, dirt that only covered her cheeks and a bit of her neck.

She slowly reached down and touched the water. She gasped once the darkness disappeared into bright light. Now it was only her and the rippling water, it shimmered and glowed. Her eyes opened slowly, feeling the slight heat from the sun made her slowly sit up. Looking out the window, she yawned and stretched out. she looked around, wondering where she was at the moment. She let out a sigh.

"Another sleepless night," she grumbled. Her hair laid on her shoulders as she was greeted by a light brown cat with golden brown eyes. "Well good morning Mocha," the young girl softly stroked his head. The cat meowed and purred softly. "Egypt! Your going to be late for school honey," a woman called from the steps. Egypt gasped and quickly got herself ready. Putting on her uniform on and brushed her hair into a bun. She brushed her teeth and washed her face. Quickly, she ran down the steps and put on her white shoes.

Her mother smiled as she held her lunch in her hand and bag. "Thanks mom!" her mother was a lot different from Egypt, she had blonde hair, nice pale and clean skin, her eyes were coco brown like Egypt's eyes. She quickly gave her mom a goodbye kiss before running out the door with her bag and lunch. Dashing down the sidewalk, she could smell all sorts of flavors. The smell of coffee, gas, baked bread, cakes baking, even the spring flowers.

She smiled happily, Egypt sighed as she slowly stopped by the school. She was just in time for school, slowly, she walked up the steps and passed a few kids before getting in. She couldn't see her best friend anywhere. Than as she was about to doubt herself, she felt a familiar hands on her eyes. The smell of lotion filled her nose.

"Morning Victoria," she giggled. "Well damn! I thought that you wouldn't notice." a dark haired girl popped up behind her. She had light hazel eyes, a nice toned body, and long black hair. "I can smell your lotion i got you for Christmas," Egypt exclaimed. Victoria just snickered as they walked together to their fist class. As she walked in, she waved goodbye to Victoria who had math first. Egypt had English. As the room was filled with chatter and laughter, she walked to the back of classroom. She smiled happily and sat down. She smiled and sighed. She loved sitting in the back, she didn't have to worry about people staring or getting caught drawing. She would day dream or just watch the rain at the window.

Feeling off about the dream she had last night, she took out her sketch book and pencil. She started sketching out the last thing she saw. Her mind blocked out the sounds of the chatter. She could feel eyes on her, when she looked up, she noticed a group of girls who stared down at her and laughed as they whispered to each other. Egypt just rolled her eyes as she continued on her sketch. "Students. May I have your attention." The teacher said over the loud students. They all settled down and looked at the new kid. Egypt looked up to see a cold glare that stared at her. His cold eyes felt like it could go right through her. Egypt gave the same cold glare. 'Who is this guy? and why is he staring at me like that'

"This is Preston West, he came from the big city. Please make him feel welcome," the teacher smiled warmly. "Sit anywhere you like," she nodded. Egypt looked down and continued on here sketch. She heard the chair beside her shift. When she looked up again, Preston was sitting beside her. 'Oh you gotta be kidding me' she just frowned and looked down at her paper. "Nice drawing," Preston said in a raspy voice. It almost sounded as if he woke up. Egypt just nodded. "Thanks," she smiled a bit. She didn't notice, but he was slightly smiling too.

After that class, the bell rang. Quickly, Egypt stood and grabbed her things. She walked out of the door and down the hall to meet up with Victoria. "Hey Brooke," a giggly voice said behind her. When she turned around, a blonde stood there with 8 different girls. "June," Egypt sighed. Egypt and June had a reputation together. June became popular just from dating a Jock on the football team. The only reason June hated Egypt was the fact that she won 3 times for a talent show. It was dumb, but it was enough for June to snap.

"What gives? Talking to a hot guy already? He will never date you, you know that right?" June smiled an evil grin. Just before Egypt could say anything, Victoria popped up beside her. "Unlike you. You Miss prissy girl. Just because your daddy got money and shit doesn't mean anyone would like you for you. I feel bad for your boyfriend. You wouldn't be able to date a newbie. You have your man candy, and besides. It would put a bad rep on you Miss prissy. Be careful now, your grinning too much, Grinch." Victoria smiled and pulled Egypt away. A few people overheard and laughed.

"Thanks for saving my ass," Egypt laughed softly. "You gotta learn how to stick up for yourself," Victoria pouted softly. "I was about to, but mama bird stepped in," Egypt laughed. They chatted on their way to lunch. Once they got their lunches, they sat at an empty table. "So, who is the new kid? Is he cute? Come on. Spill," Victoria smiled and nudged at her. The sound of the kids slowly filling the cafe made it harder for anyone to talk. "Well, he has a raspy voice, pretty cute, he has a good body, vary cold eyes, pitch black hair," just even thinking about him made her blush lightly.

"Ooo!!" Victoria sang out loud. They burst out laughing. "Cut it out, it's not that serious," Egypt looked down as she ate her mashed potatoes. "It's a huge deal, maybe this is your chance to get with him," Victoria wiggled her eyebrows. "No chance, were in high school, there is thousand of other girls. Why me?" Egypt frowned and rolled her eyes. "Oh give it a chance, speaking of newbie. Look who's coming?" Victoria pointed to Preston. He looked at them and slowly walked over with the trey in his hands. "Vicky!" Egypt covered her face. "Is this seat taken?" Preston asked softly as he smiled. "N-no," Egypt sighed as he sat down. "My name is Victoria and this is Egypt," Egypt pretended to not hear. "Oh, I'm Preston," his expression seem much more warmer and calm. The smell of the chicken made Egypt even more hungry. She continued to eat. After their lunch, they wall walked out together and chatted before their next class. This was a beginning of a new friendship.
