Chapter 1

I ran as fast as I could, looking behind me all I could see was the trees with the fog surrounding the place it was hard to see who was after me. I had this feeling that someone was following me and I knew enough not to ignore that feeling. I always trusted my feeling they never fail me; I must have been running for about ten minutes when I stopped to catch my breath. I heard something and when I looked up again, I saw nothing, but I knew better I ran the hell away. I kept looking back to see whose footsteps I heard only to trip on a tree branch. I scrapped my knee that’s when I heard a blood-curdling scream I looked around and nothing. For the life of me, I could not figure out where it was coming from. When I turned back around there it stood less than five feet away a tall dark hooded figure. Each step it took I backed up then in a blink of an eye it was standing right in front of me I couldn’t see a face.

Then in the most ominous voice, I heard it say “they’ve hidden you well but you won’t be safe for long, I’ll be seeing you soon”, then it went to take its hood off.

With a gasp, I woke up drenched in sweat I sat upright and turned on my desk light. What the hell was that? Chills ran down my spine not from the cold night but the words of the dark figure. As I recalled its words “they’ve hidden you well, but you won’t be safe for long, I’ll be seeing you soon”, it straight out creeped me out. That dream felt all too real, but I knew it was a dream hopefully. When I checked the time on my desk, I saw it was three in the morning, great I knew I wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep. Thankfully, I didn’t have to go to school, taking a gap year from college is was what I needed. Now I have time to figure out what it is I wanted to do with but at least I wasn’t the only one a few of my friends decided to do the same. That dream really did bug me though I tried to look it up on the internet what it could mean but then what would I type mysterious figure tries to kill me in the woods. Yeah, right only a crazy person would think that would mean something. I pushed that aside, for now, I thought about what I was going to do today the only thing I had to do today was to wash my prized possession which was my black 1970′s, dodge challenger. I was always into classic cars; it took me a while to find it and when I did, I begged my parents to get it as my graduation gift which they did.

I looked at my clock again it was already five I wouldn’t be getting any sleep, so I figured why not start early on my tasks. I got out of bed and went straight into my bathroom when I put the light on it made my eyes hurt; I was not a morning person. I got into the shower and ran the cold water to wake me up. After a couple of minutes, I got out of the shower and went into my closet to look for a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie. As I was putting on my sweats, I saw a scrape on my knee like the one I got when I fell in my dreams. Now I got spooked because I knew that there was no way the dream was real; I mean it couldn’t be possible. Maybe I had scraped my knee somewhere and didn’t notice until now that had to be the most logical reason, I told myself, it was too early for this I’m just going to forget about it. When I got downstairs, I saw my parents in the kitchen my dad with his coffee in his hand I swear that man practically lives on that stuff. I mean given his profession as a lawyer that could be the reason why but I don’t get mom she hates the stuff but she’s a nurse I thought that they would live on that stuff because of how many hours they work.

“I heard you up before me this morning, is everything alright,” my dad asked as he looked up. Yeah, a bad dream that’s all, it felt so real though, but it must have been my imagination. They looked at each other in a weird way but I reassured them that it was just a dream. I grabbed a piece of toast mom had put on the plate and headed out of the house.
