Chapter 1
I slight opened my eyes. I could feel myself in and out of consciousness. I felt groggy for a moment. I could not keep my eyes open. I started to blink and rub my eyes. The room is spinning, and I could not really make out where I was. I started to panic, and my stomach ached like I have not eaten in a few days. I was not sure where I was, and it was freaking me out. I was laying there looking at the blurry white sheets and blue drapes, I wondered what happened and where I was. I could see that I was in a bedroom. I could see four walls as white as the sheets I was lying on. The only reason why I thought this was because I was lying in a bed. As I looked around to figure out where I might be, I saw a man standing straight up in a far corner of the room sleeping. I do not think he is a man; well, I would describe his color as not human. It was like he had scales all over his face in the color of blue. He was wearing a suit, but he did not seem human like. Where the hell am I?
My heart started to pound out of my chest, and I could feel the anxiety creep in. I thought to myself “Where am I and what is that man doing sleeping the chair over there, I wish I knew what happened and why I am here?” I questioned myself as a pretty lady in a white coat walks into the room. “Well, your awake”, she said like she was waiting for me to wake up. “Where am I?” I asked with still blink my eyes to clear the blurriness. “You are in the west wing of Chapel Hill Facility” she said. “Is this a hospital?” I asked intrigued as to where I was. “No, honey this isn’t a hospital, this is a recover center for those who have descended “she explained, all though it left me confused as to what she was talking about. “What are you talking about, what’s descended?” I asked her. “They will come and fill you in, I am just the caretaker of this wing” she said with a quite eerie smile on her face, like she was pretending to be kind. I could tell she was not telling me something. “Who is that man standing over there”? I asked. “What man sweetie?” she asked because obviously she could not see him. “There is no man standing in the corner, are you feeling okay girl?” she said with a concern look on her face. “Yeah, but are you sure you don’t see a man sleeping in the corner?” I said still trying to convince myself that I am not freaking crazy. “No, I don’t see anything, maybe you need to rest some more” she said as she walked towards the long gated white door with no window just a peep hole “I will be back to check on you soon” she said as she shut the door.
It was just me and this stranger. Is he human? Is he part reptile? I need some answers. I threw the covers off and walked over to approach the unknown stranger in the corner. “Sir, Sir” I said as I shook him viciously. He popped up and jumped out of the corner he was in. “WHAT, WHAT” He said over and over. “Oh, your awake, good now we can get down to business” he said as he started to reach into the wall. I sat there stunned and confused as to what he was trying to do. He pulled out some clothes. I suppose they were for me considering I was wearing a white gown. “Here put these on, quick we need to get out of here” he said with a haste putting the clothes into my arms. “Okay, well can you turn around so I can get dress” I said with a baffled look on my face. I was not sure who this person or creature was that was telling me to get dress. My body just did what he asked, but my mind is like “What the hell?”. “Sir, can you tell me what is going on here?” I asked hoping for an explanation. “There is no time for explanation, I need you to hurry up before the team gets here and kills you” he said like it was an everyday occurrence that someone’s life was in danger. “KILL ME, what the hell?” “You need to trust me because your life just got a lot more complicated” he said while grabbing my arm tightly. I could feel his scales beneath my skin. They felt rough and itchy. “Wait a minute where are we going, that’s a wall we can’t just walk through it” I said with my heart pounding and a pale look on my face. “It’s not a wall it’s a portal, so let’s go now” he said without hesitation. “Wait, you need to explain yourself right now, I am not going anywhere with you without you telling me why my life is in danger and what all of this is about” I said as I pulled my arm away from him. “Fine, your life is danger because you’re a descended and the Team of the West Wing kills all of the decedents that wake up, I am your protector sent by the Enchantment Alliance to keep you safe and I will explain everything once we jump through this portal to a safe zone area, okay is that enough for you?” he said with anger in his eyes or more like annoyed that I wasn’t complying to his wishes. “I am trusting you to tell me everything” I said. I could hear footsteps coming down the hall. This mysterious lizard man grabs my arm “Good now let’s go” he said as he pulls me through the portal. I could see the guards opening the door as we went through the portal. That was to close for me and now I was left with confusion as to why they wanted me dead.
My head was spinning and a ringing in my ears felt like it would never go away. We finally made it to the other side of the portal. I have to say there was nothing safe about this place. There were massive domes with red dusty sand everywhere. I looked around and there was no one in sight. “Now, that we are here can you please tell me what in the hell is going on and where I am” I asked with a stern look on my face. “My dear you will know in time, right now we need to get you to the Palace of Bells” he said with concern on his face. “You promised that you would tell me something once we got here” I said not backing down to his deflections. “All I can tell you right now is that you are a decedent from Earth, and you have been asleep for exactly one thousand, eight-two days and three hours and two hundred and eight seconds. And for some reason you woke up on your own. This has never happened before and therefore you are special, and people are now after you. I was sent by the Guard to protect you and bring you back to the Palace of Bells because the is the only safe place for you right now and those guards at the Chapel Hill Facility were sent to kill you” he said as we kept walking through the sandy red dunes. “Okay can you explain to me where we are?” I was still confused as to how I got here and why I was asleep for so long. “Right now, you are on planet June, the red planet” he said. “So, what are you? Are you human or reptile?” I asked curiously I want to know what he was because he just did not look human. “I am part human and part reptile” he said as he put his hood on and handed me a pair of goggles like glasses and a head scarf. “Put these on, you’re going to need them, the dust gets bad in some parts of this world” he said as he adjusted his head scarf to cover out his face. I put on the googles and the brown tinted head scarf. “So, how long does it take to get to the Palace?” I asked while walking behind this human reptile. “It will take a few days to walk, but once we hit Molly, we will be able to find the portal to the Palace” he said. “By the way what is your name?” I asked. “My name is Guroff, but my human name is George” he said with a smirk on his face. “Nice to meet you Guroff, my name is Kat, it’s Katherine, but people call me Kat” I said with a slight smile on my face. “So, like a cat, but with a K hmmm interesting, you know I eat cat time-to-time, but it’s rare to see them anymore” he said. “Cat, really? What is wrong with you?” I said with a disguised look on my face. “It’s sometimes the only thing I can find to eat and when your short on food believe me you will eat anything, it’s the reptile in me, can’t help it” he said as he shucked his shoulders. “So, speaking of food do you have anything in that bag of yours?” I asked with my tummy rumbling like it had not eating in weeks. “Why, yes there is, but we need to walk a few more feet because if we stop now the Shadow Fadesg will be out soon and then we will be dinner for them” he said as we kept pushing on to our destination. “What are the Viper gang?” I asked because I was intrigued. “They are mean and ruthless and will stop at nothing to kill just because, they are half-orc and viper snake, one bite and your dead that’s how they kill you and because they lurk during peak times of the day, if you don’t be careful you could end up in one of their traps.” He said while he picked up his pace. “How do you know you found a trap?” I said curiously. “They can pop up without any notice and we got about twenty minutes till it’s feeding time, so less talking and more walking we are almost there” he said as he points beyond the red sandy hills. "That's where we need to go" he said as he picked up the pace. I am starting to wonder if all of this is just a dream and hope I will wake up from all this nonsense.
