Chapter 1

𝓬𝓱𝓪𝓹𝓽𝓮𝓻 1: 𝓐𝓭𝓸𝓻𝓪

The roaring crowd was deafening. I could feel the thumping of the drums inside me like a second heartbeat. Light rain coming down from the sky, and the incessant screaming of teenage girls adding to the chaos. That was what I lived for. Thrived on. Chaos. That’s why I wasn’t surprised I’d ended up here, at the concert. Even though my parents never would have allowed it. I took a deep breath and held it. How I wished I could do things without worrying about what my parents would think. Exhaling, I elbowed my way through the crowd, making it to the front of the stage.

Once there, I started jumping in time with the beat, letting the loud hypnotizing music flow through me. Taking away my problems, drowning out my thoughts. This. This was the reason I hadn’t already offed myself. The rush that came with being part of something bigger than yourself. It made me feel better, knowing that while I had to live the perfect life, in my little glass castle, burying my pain deep inside, there would always be chaos in the world. And it would be visible, loud, everything I couldn’t be. Whether it was good or bad, it didn’t matter. As long as it drowned out my problems and pain, and made me forget them, I would welcome chaos with open arms.

A hypnotizing voice started singing. It was deep and raspy, the sound flowing into my ears like honey.

"She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes

Hard liquor mixed with a bit of intellect

And all the boys, they were saying they were into it

Such a pretty face, on a pretty neck"

The crowd somehow got even louder, screaming and jostling from side to side, on time with the beat. I turned my head up to the sky, letting the rain drops roll down my face. Even amidst the chaos I felt peaceful. Maybe it was BECAUSE of it I felt peaceful. God, I thought, even a therapist wouldn’t be able to deal with my Fucked up mind. I looked towards the stage, and when my eyes locked onto a pair of green ones, my breath rushed out of me. Suddenly, there was no more chaos, but there wasn’t any pain either. It felt like time stood still, everything inside me quieted, and, for the first time in a long time I felt true peace. But everything good must always come to an end.

“ADORA!! Where the hell are you, stupid little bitch, always getting into trouble. If you don’t want a harsher punishment than the one you’re getting, you better come here right NOW”

Shots rang out into the air, one after the other. The screaming turned from excited to terrified. No, no, no, no. Please, no. I pleaded silently, a heavy weight settled on my chest. I glanced around and found the guard my parents had assigned to me at the back of the stadium. And he Looked murderous. He was surrounded by more guards, all looking for me. Frantically looking around for a quick exit, I found they were all being blocked by human stampedes trying to get out. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest, panic settling in, until I finally saw a door by the back of the stage. I booked it, running as fast as I could to the door and wiggled the handle, let it be open please. The door unlocked, throwing my inside, I hurried to try and lock it. Once I made sure it locked, and no one could come in, I collapsed against the wall. The adrenaline was fading, and I felt like fainting. It was dark except for the flickering lights in the ceiling. Voices floated in from the far corner in the hallway. curiosity, getting the best of me, made me get closer. I walked slowly towards the voices, turning the corner. I could hear they were coming from a closed door, but I still couldn’t make out what they were saying. Although it sounded like it was men who were talking. Getting close to the door, I tried the handle. Opening it, I looked through the small space, and saw that the men who were talking were actually part of the band.

“Do you think this has something to do with us? Are they cops or something? Do you think they found us out?” The blond guy with the Irish accent said, He was panicked, flailing his arms when speaking. One of the guys with tattoos slapped him over the head.

“Calm down and shut up before I make you. No they aren’t cops, and no they haven’t found us out. We know how to cover our tracks. And we’re smart, unlike the law and those good for nothing cops.” Now it was the one with green eyes that was speaking. He exuded power, the way he spoke so calmly and sure of himself, it seemed like thought he owned the world.

“Arrogant ass.” I muttered under my breath.

Three heads turned in my direction, and I became the center of attention of three males who had such dark and void stares, I moved back in fear, tripped and fell on my ass. The tallest one of all, the one with the green eyes, moved towards me in a predatory manner. He got close to me and extended his hand, something I wouldn’t have expected from someone like him. I tentatively put my hand in his. Pulling me up, a small smirk formed on his lips.

“Run along little girl, this has nothing to do with you, now leave before you get hurt, or I hurt you.” he said threateningly, I could tell he wasn’t from here, he said the words with a British accent. “your time isn’t now, but it will come soon.” he muttered darkly.

I looked up at him, confused, not understanding. I wanted to ask what he meant by that, but seeing how void of life his green eyes were, I just nodded. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you.”

I turned around and walked away from the boys. Questions plaguing my mind. I just knew I wasn’t going to fall asleep today. I needed answers, and I would get them. But first, I’d need to deal with my parents. And the punishment I was bound to receive. I sighed, hung my head and walked outside.
