Innocent
Adhara's POV
A new school, a new start is what my father always says. I call bull on that one, there is no new start if I am not even there for a full year. Ever since third grade I have been moving around since my dad doesn’t want his enemies to find me, interrogate me, and then kill me. Scratch off the killing part, he could care less if I die, all he cares about is his “business” the code word for Mafia.
My dad’s name is Abbadon, he is the leader of the Battalion Mafia, they are known for being ruthless and cold-hearted. I can one hundred percent vouch for that, I hate being born into this, I have seen way more than any other eighteen-year-old should.
He despises me for one reason, I look like my mother, Irina. She died when I was only one year old from breast cancer and he hasn’t looked at me the same way since. I only remember her from pictures cause she passed away when I was really young and she had the most beautiful blonde, wavy hair, and grayish-blue eyes, exactly what I look like. It is funny though, my other features come from my uncle, I look nothing like my father. My uncle, also my father's brother, Andreas, and I share the same nose and face shape. I do have my dad's same ears but I am pretty sure it runs in the family bloodline.
“Adhara Crucifix, get your ass down here before you are late to school!” My father constantly yells because we live in a giant manner where you can’t hear anything unless you are standing right by the person. “I’m coming, jeez…” I may have given off a bit of attitude there which he hates, but it’s not like it will make things worse between us.
I looked at myself in the mirror one more time happy to not be wearing a uniform since this is my first day going to a public school. I hurried down the stairs before my dear old dad shouted again and started to run out the door before he stopped me.
“Leaving without saying goodbye?” I could hear the sneer in his voice knowing that I am about to have the don’t do anything stupid talk like we do every time I start a new school. After this conversation though, I would’ve taken that talk over anything else.
“I had to go quick since you said yourself that I am going to be late”
“Don’t get sarcastic on me Ara” Ugh, I hate when he uses that nickname. My cousins and uncle use that nickname for me, but I actually like them. “I have a little job for you this school year and do not complain cause I can already feel an eye roll coming before you even do it. One of my enemies sons go to the school, he should be a senior like you are and I want you to get close to him to find out what they are up to”
“And how do you think I am going to do that? Hold his hand and skip over rainbows?” Like seriously, how does he expect me to gain a Mafia’s son’s trust?
“I suggest you shut it. I will give you more details tonight when you get home, but keep low and stay quiet. Watch for anyone that radiates power at the school but do not draw attention to yourself, got it?”
“Of course dad!” I batted my eyelashes jeeringly making it obvious that I will hate every minute of this. How in the world does he expect me to act innocent when I am far from that, hell I just watched a person get bloody stabbed to death yesterday. I walked out the unnecessarily enormous front door and hopped in the limo that takes me to school. My dad says it is a procedure so no one can take me since I will be under guard's protection, yeah whatever.
“Hey Mr. Limo Driver, can you park a couple blocks away to not draw any attention when I show up for school?” I Gotta make sure I throw on my innocent act and keep myself from being in the spotlight.
“Of course Ms. Crucifix”
We pull up about two blocks away from the school so the guard can keep an eye on me the whole time I walk there, but it will be far enough away that no one will catch sight of the obnoxiously long car.
I walk up to the front lawns and what. the. fuck. Private school was nothing like this, there were no kids blasting music from a speaker and running around screaming and why was everyone in a group of about six to eight people. Luckily no one noticed me because they were too busy talking about the hot teacher, or what happened during the football game.
The rest of the day was absolutely boring, none of my teachers noticed I was there and the students are complete morons. I have no idea how any of these people could be the heir to a mafia throne, they all have the common sense of a log. I started walking out of the school grounds keeping my head down making sure I caught no one’s attention, that didn’t last long. I walked right into a football jock making him knock his phone right out of his hand cracking the screen.
“Watch where you are going, you moron, you cracked my phone screen!”
“Is that seriously the worst insult you could come up with? Maybe you should’ve also been paying attention to your surroundings instead of sending pictures of that hideous face to your hoes.” I was a bit nervous now since tons of people were staring and his other nimwads were now standing right next to him.
“Is this girl here giving you trouble Rion?” A short brown hair guy said. He was actually extremely short-looking standing next to the guy I was arguing with. Rion or whatever his name was was really tall and muscular looking like he could pick up a car. His hair was brown and a bit messy in a cute sort of way, then you get down to his deep green eyes that stare deep into your soul, he also has the kind of jawline that could cut ice. He honestly was a very attractive guy, but I would rather die than let him know that.
“I am pretty sure we can have a conversation without you coming to save the day.” I shot back, realizing I was talking before thinking what I was going to say.
“Awe does Miss feisty not like us?” Rion gave a pouty lip making all his friends howl in laughter. I started to walk away done with the shit coming out of his mouth. “Hey! Don’t walk away while I’m talking!” He yelled from across the lawn
“Sorry I walked away mid-conversation, you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kicked in.” I shot back leaving his friends roaring in laughter and his face redder than a tomato.
