Prologue
A faint glow of candlelight shined through a window of the highest tower. Staring up, was a handsome young man, with his boots tightened and gloves ready to make the climb. As he started his journey up the tower, his thoughts ran wild with the lovely woman’s face and body. The man’s excitement pushed him forward and encouraged his sore muscles to push through the pain.
As if under love’s spell he goofily smiled as he remembers the small giggles of the girl. The giggle was so angelic and musical, it would send butterflies up his stomach and warm his heart. He bet that hearing her actual laughter would make all the men in the castle collapse from their wobbling knees. He reached the bottom of the window and knocked three times, signaling his arrival.
In the corner of the room sat a young woman of around 18 years of age, a book in her hand and a faint smile on her face. Her auburn hair flowing in long curls, over her shoulders and onto her lap. Her small face revealed only the shadow of her actual beauty in the dim light. She looked up and acknowledged the handsome man. She stayed seated, secretly enjoying his effort and desperation to see her.
The handsome man tugged at the window and to his relief, it slid open. With his athletic upper body strength, he pushed himself onto the windowsill and crawled through the window. He did not care if he looked like a monkey breaking into a house, he wanted, no need, to see the girl. When he landed in her room, the young woman placed her book on the side table, her tranquil blue eyes never leaving him.
This was the third time this week he has entered her room. The two times before had been through her chamber door.
With the goofy smile still on the man’s face, he bent down on one knee and bow his head low in respect for his princess. His shiny armor clacked with the movement and his sword levels along his back. He had dark hair, dark eyes and no stubble in sight. As always she stayed quiet, observing his stiff shoulders as he extended his fist over his chest.
“My princess, you have given me the honor of visiting you one last time. The rumors of the town folk had driven me to come as quickly as my body would allow” The man rose and took the open seat next to the princess, facing her with a serious frown.
He was absolutely delighted that she allowed him to secretly visit her in her room, whilst the stars were out. Nevertheless, she even allowed him to kiss her on her cheek the last time he visited.
The princess raised an eyebrow signaling for him to continue with his train of thoughts; about the town’s people and the rumors. She already knew of all the rumors going around the castle about her. The letter she sent for him was just to find out more and to experiment a little with her so-called ‘curse’.
“As of yesterday, I have heard rumors from three different sources, all more or less saying the same thing.”
The princess blinked attentively.
“They were about a young princess with the ability to make any man fall in love with her.”
The young princess smiled; amused.
“Looking upon her beauty, your beauty…” he trailed off for a moment, thinking, “I would hardly say it was a curse, but merely a natural occurrence to fall in love with you, my princess.”
This time she smiled at him, kindly, showing her appreciation of his fondness over her. His words meant he thought lowly of those who called their love a curse.
“As this might be our last meeting, I would like to be allowed to be so bold, as to bestow upon you a gift…” The handsome man trailed off as he stared deeply into the princess’s piercing blue eyes.
In his heart he confirmed his statements to be true. With those beautiful eyes and kind smile, anyone would fall head over heels for her.
“All that I am.” He continued.
“Use me in whatever way you deem worthy. I want to stay with you forever, be it in servant form or guard form.”
The princess approvingly smiled and leaned in for him to kiss her cheek. As he inched forward, she took hold of his upper arms and pressed her lips to his.
Eyes wide from the shock, the man groaned huskily as the butterflies in his stomach spread through his whole body. He could feel the princess enjoying the touch of his upper arm muscle under her soft fingers, and he puffed with pride.
With the newfound confidence, he moved his hands to her hips, his face blushed in the process as his fingertips made contact with the smooth silk material. Their kissing became deeper as the princess inched her body closer until finally, she was almost on his lap. His arms slid across her back in a hug, urging her to never stop.
She broke the kiss, stared into the man’s eyes. Biting her lip, she considered whether or not to go through with her plan. She could always just keep on kissing him.
Then, as a wicked thought crossed her mind, she smiled at him.
“Thank you.” She spoke out loud.
As soon as the words passed over her lips, the man was gone.
The muscular man stared back at her with a blank expression. His eyes were a clean canvas and his whole body belonged to the princess.
Forever loyal.
She knew what she had done, for it was told so by the fortune teller Baba. She just wanted to see if it was really true.
To her astonishment, clearly it was.
The curse of the blue-eyed princess:
In the tallest tower
You’ll see a brilliant
Blue flower
Upon sight
Any will be head over heels
Hopelessly smitten
But, without ordeals
A single word will wipe thee clean
For nothing is forbidden
As you’ve seen
From the princess o’ delight.
If truly in love
The spell’s of no use
So find thy true love
Or never be loose.
Next week Monday I'll upload Chapter 1. Keep a lookout for it.
