Chapter 1

2013 came in like any other year but we had something very special to look forward to which would be the marriage of our oldest son.the plan was that they would get married in Jamaica and this would be the first time Teresa and I would be holidaying long haul from the uk. The wedding was great and we both loved Jamaica. It was while we were in Jamaica that I first noticed a Slight change and confusion in Teresa’s direction capabilities, every morning we would come down for breakfast and when the lift doors opened she wasn’t sure which way to go to the dinning room, well that’s not strange you are in a hotel you’ve never stayed in before, but this was day three! And she never did get the grasp of it. It was from this point on her sense of direction started to slowly deteriorate over the coming years. Back home from Jamaica and we were settling in to the year ahead. Now I have to say at this point that Teresa had had a couple of scares with regards to breast cancer in the past which turned out to be cysts so she always checked her self religiously for lumps, she got a letter in June to go for a mammogram check. A week later and she was called back to the hospital to see an oncologist,I had a feeling something wasn’t right and I couldn’t make the appointment with her because of working away but my eldest son could so they went to the oncology department were Teresa and my son were told that she had a grade three aggressive cancer in her right breast and a complete removal was needed to save my wife’s life. After they both came out of oncology Teresa rang me at work to tell me the outcome but had to stop because she was in floods of tears and handed the phone to our son to continue the conversation,I was in another part of the country and wouldn’t be back till the following night. Being a long distance lorry driver you can’t just drop everything and come home so seeing Teresa would have to wait till I got back. The following day was the longest day of my life and it just seem to drag on and on.
