Everything Sucks
Ada POV
The scent of dirt and grime filled Adas’ nostrils, waking her from her sleep. Others around her groaned as they shook the sleep out of their eyes. Everyone immediately jumping into action, fixing up their sleeping areas and arranging their few items in a pretty fashion.
Once her things were all arranged neatly, Ada rushed to the washing hole hoping to be the first one there but instead was met with a long line of people waiting to wash. This didn't surprise her. Nothing really surprised her anymore.
In the slave quarters, there was an unspoken rule that people only got thirty seconds to wash as much dirt away from their bodies as possible. Ada waited patiently in line for god knows how long. When it was finally her turn she cupped some water into her hands and splashed her face.
“Thirty seconds is up loser. Beat it!” Exclaimed a younger man from behind Ada.
Ada sighed through her nose and walked away from the washing hole. She made her way to her sleeping corner to make another attempt at sleep. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep. Not with all that is on her mind.
She was also desperate for privacy which she also knew she wouldn't be getting. No one ever got any privacy in the slave quarters. It was always too crowded and too loud. To loud to even think straight.
Ada had a few hours before she would be called down. Today was the day that she would be sold. Today was the day that everyone who had turned sixteen in the last year would be sold. And with very little room for herself, she didn't know how she was going to get through it.
Ada had been preparing to be sold into slavery since she was born. She had excepted her fate early on in her life as did most humans.
She has been preparing for this her whole life but she still liked to think that one day the Faeries would leave and she and all humans could be set free.
Years back before Ada was born life had been filled with happiness and laughter. There were no slaves and no kingdoms. People had families and even pets. there were cities and countries. They had jobs and schools. They had perfect lives.
But that all changed when the faeries invaded the land. They had migrated from their own land, a land far away, a land that no human has ever seen and most likely will never see, for reasons they had never revealed. Faeries were cruel, secretive creatures who cared about no one and nothing but themselves.
They tried to fight off the faeries. They told them that they were unwelcome, but they didn't like that very much. In the end, there had been a brutal and nasty war. It didn't last long. Ada had been told it only lasted about four years.
After the war humans became slaves and faeries ruled the world. Small kingdoms began to sprout throughout the world, destroying cities and turning them into kingdoms. The mother of all kingdoms, the most powerful kingdom was Heranack, formerly known as Boston. Ada had been told stories of the riches in the powerful kingdom.
A loud bang sounded. The selling began. Sixteen-year-old human boys and girls are being sold into slavery to faeries.
Ada was next.
