Prologue

“When?”

Mused the boy .

“Just when did I get so low?“-He thought while lying on the bed, in the dark room with lights off and windows shut, with his hand stretched towards the wall, reminiscing the time when he too outshined and was admired by others.

“If I were to die right now would anyone other than my family even know I existed?”

His expression became one of sheer disgust, disgust for his own self. The one that got stagnant. Anime and games all day , constantly sleep deprived, not even remembering the last time he touched his books. He loathed himself for making his own dreams crumble yet he stayed the same , otaku to the core .

Not long after this mood started though...

“Time for school, kiddo”

His father roared, barging in the room.

“Huh, School? Ohh yeah, the pandemic break is ending today...

Dad can you not knock ?I am grown up now, you know!”

It wasn’t like he particularly hated school but getting up early, taking a bath and then leaving the house was apparently too tedious.

***

Just as he deboarded the bus.

“Ohh Hey Kiri”

“Hi Vame”

“You are as suicidal as always I see”

Homo sapiens that are called friends ain’t exactly the most considerate beings present so they often don’t realize the depth of what they say.

“Well I am certainly not in one of my best moods for sure.”

They chattered till they reached their classroom. There was nothing particularly special about his class, just as ordinary as any other high school class .There were the introverts, the ones who made bullied, those who got bullied, backbiters, the apparently nice ones and the sadist type too.

Kiritsugu though he felt lonely apparently knew 3 people whom others would call his friends.

Well not like they were all too bad or anything, the problem was he now lamented himself so much that he couldn’t even bring himself to hold proper conversations. There was nothing he could actually talk about other than the otaku stuff, mentioning which made him ever more gloomy. He was ones the type who had dreams that transcended the imagination of the typical masses , he didn’t completely forsake his dreams though, just that he wasn’t taking a step towards them which was all the more reason why he regarded his own self with disgust.

“You ! You like her don’t you?”

Said Otep with a smirk on his face when he caught the boy glaring at a certain desk.

“Nah, definitely not. Where’d that come from? You surely ought to stop watching those tv dramas.”

Kiritsugu now had a flustered look as he was caught off guard by his ever so perceptive friend.

“Also lets just assume hypothetically, emphasize on the hypothetical part. Even if I do, it’s not like she would feel the same.”

“Well of course not. She is Emma after all but at least we would have something to get our very own Great Galen flustered. Haha”

For the uninitiated , Galen was a philosopher in Roman empire prominently famous for founding the ideals of stoicism.

Kiritsugu shrugged his shoulder as he felt ever so pathetic for himself while his friends had a good laugh watching him in such susceptible state.

These creatures who goes by “friends” are actually potent beings capable of contact less injection of dopamine, serotonin and even cortisol(actually they inject this the most). The first two being “happiness” hormones while the latter is “stress” hormone.
