The Monkey King: A Journey to a State of Presence

It’s said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and material items such as the contour shape of a large sparkling diamond or the master paintings of the late Jean Michel Basquiat, no matter how beautiful are not always adored by all. But there are instances when beauty is just that, beauty. It can’t be denied or ignored, and there is no finer example than in the breath taking creation of some human beings. Close your eyes and imagine lips that can make quenched soles, parch with lust to suck, only to be parched again by sheer desire. Now, open your eyes. I bet there are a few around you who can draw another in like a dry camel to cool water. But sooner or later this beauty must fade like the painted walls of an old building, and what then? For example take a beautiful porcelain piece that has been standing for years in some nameless museum, one day it is bound to crack, and what do you think will be found behind those cracked pieces, nothing. On the other hand there is more than beauty to a human being. Peel back the fleshy remains and what you have left is the core of the human, it’s soul. This is where you get to know the true person, where hopefully there is beauty to be found, for if not, an ugliness that wasn’t obvious before may rear its’ nasty head. But the soul does not stand-alone. It must be nourished and it is this that lies behind the twinkling eyes of every human, the spirit. What the soul needs the spirit provides. A hungry stomach demands food, a tired body needs rest, and a lustful thirst needs quenching, while a shattered heart needs mending. The spirit is a free entity and because it nourishes the soul, it is like a wild animal stopping at nothing to please its’ master. It can be flirtatious and playful, serious and conserved, demanding and cold, or just whimsical and silly. But when a spirit is broken, it causes friction with the soul, and a cycle of life is disturbed, put off balance. And how you may ask is a spirit broken, by the negative souls that happen to surround it. It is then that the spirit is confined, held in a tight grip of uncertainty, bound to the turmoil’s of its soul, until it is freed. But who should free a spirit, and how? No one’s true spirit should be hidden, because sooner or later the soul will push until the spirit fights hard enough to reveal itself to the world.
