Prologue

My palms are sweating, my head spinning while hundreds of questions run through my mind.

The room's so silent you could hear a pin drop. The atmosphere is so tense that you could use a knife to cut it.

"Well? Are you going to accept or stand there looking like a pathetic bitch?

My focus goes to him, his green eyes captivating me like they always do. I want to rip her arm off his shoulder. I want to mark him in front of everyone, letting them know that he's mine.

" Fuck, Maya, just accept already. " She hisses, running a hand through her blonde hair.

Ashley Simon, the alpha's daughter. The girl who also used to be my best friend, until I saw her sleeping with my mate. My mate. Apparently, she had this crazy theory that I was going to murder her for her title, and decided to steal my mate because of it.

"Do you, Maya Johnson, accept the rejection of the future beta James Miller? "

He asks calmy, as if asking if we had any milk left.

"I-" I sob, holding my mouth as tears threatened to spill out of my eyes.

"I accept y-your rejection. " My heart feels like it's been ripped out, but I know this is just the beginning of the pain.

"Then I hear by ban you from ever visiting our pack, the Silver River."

1.5 years later

I woke to the sound of my alarm beeping. It's been about a year and a half since my mate rejected me for my best friend, and since I moved to LA. Every night, I cry myself to sleep, wondering if I'll ever be happy again. I've been working shifts at a local coffee shop, barely passing through each month.

After a nice shower, I have a quick breakfast and hastily put on my work clothes before driving to Bay Café.

I hear the bell jingle when I open the door to Bay Café.

"Hey May!" Oliver, one of my friends and coworkers say, greeting me with my nickname.

"Hey Olie! " I great right back, tying on the apron he handed to be before walking behind the counter.

I glance at the black watch on my wrist. It's 11:57, meaning there's 3 more minutes until my lunch break. I hear the bell jingle again, signalizing a customer arriving. But this time, it's different. I take a small sniff. They smell like pine trees and coconut water - and they're a werewolf, one of the few I've met in LA. So far, other than the 5-6 werewolves I've met, no one else know's about my secret. I feel my heart beating faster. Geez Maya, calm down. I don't even know why I'm reacting this way. The last time I felt like this was with James.

"Hi, welcome to Bay Café, what can I get for you today?" I say, lifting my head up slightly so I can meet my customer. I involuntarily gasp, feeling the color rise to my cheeks.

Mate. I hadn't heard from my wolf June ever since James rejected me.

I was shocked. Having a second chance mate was almost unheard of!

"Mate" He whisper-growled out, and I saw him take a quick sweep of my body before looking at my name tag. I could just feel myself getting wet under his gaze.

We just stared at each other's eyes for what felt like forever, but in reality was seconds. I never wanted to look away from his stormy gray eyes. He had brown, almost black hair, with a nice chiseled jaw, and soft kissable looking lips.

Just then, Oliver walked from the back.

"Hey May, are you gonna have your lunch break? I brought some extra sushi if you wanted some?" I quickly looked away from my mate. Second chance mate.

"Um... yeah, I'll be right there. I'll just finish with the customer. Thanks, by the way. " I reply, trying to sound as calm as possible. He nods and waves a bit before leaving.

I clear my throat, wishing to address the situation.

"Maya Johnson..you?" I say, then immediately want to facepalm myself.

"Dante. Dante Smith. " He said, his deep voice sending vibrations to my core.

"Dante, what would you like today?" I ask, trying to sound completely normal.

"I'll have a black coffee with no sugar."

I quickly ring him up, and as he leaves, he asks, "When does your shift end? I think we should talk. " I felt myself going pale. Is he going to reject me too?

"2 pm" I muster out, before awkwardly saying bye. I can't deny myself attractions to him - mentally and physically. I quickly walked to the back and checked in with Oliver before telling him I was going to the bathroom.

As soon as I locked the door, I immediately pulled down my black skirt and leaned against the door. I shoved one hand into my black lace thong, circling my clit. I pushed one finger inside me - then two, then three, and quickly four, all the while imagining it was Dante doing it, but also trying to keep quite.

I could feel an orgasm starting to build up. I wanted to moan, to scream, but I couldn't. With my other hand, I lifted my shirt up, pulled my bra down and harshly twisted one of my nipples. I muffled a scream, bucking my hips forward as I orgasmed.

"May, are you ok? You've been there for quite a while." I heard Oliver's voice on the other side of the door.

"Y-yeah I'm fine! Just washing my hands right now." I say, quickly re-adjusting my clothes to look appropriate. I awkwardly opened the door to see Oliver standing there, looking concerned.

I quickly eat lunch, and the rest of the day goes in a blur until 2 pm finally comes.

"Bye Oliver, see ya tomorrow!" I say, waving goodbye as I close the door. I look around to see if Dante's there, and sure enough, he's leaning against his parked car looking like a Greek God.
