Prologue

Happy reading to all!

Life is full of lessons. Learn and Earn from it.

That’s what my Mother used to say. She is not with me right now but I still remember every second I spent with her. I remember her bright and lively eyes, her long black hair that I inherited from her. I smile at the happy memories.

“Next !“, a shrill shout reverberates through the cafeteria.

I move forward in line for the food. The food is not even that good. Its just a very pungent tasting porridge and a piece of bread.

Looking at my ragged long hoodie and the nicest pair of leggings, I scowl. The cold floor stings my bare feet. The plate in my hand is icy cold too. And I swear I saw bits and crumbs stuck on it. I wipe it down with a rag cloth before I get the serving. Not getting any better so what’s the point.

The serving woman scowls at me but I give her a bright smile back. This Orphanage is Hell. Well, even Hell would be better than this. I hope it would be clean atleast.

After eating meekly in the cafeteria, I get out to resume my work. The only person that made this Hell a little better for me has disappeared same as my mother. She also disappeared. And now that I see, there have been many children who have been gone. I investigated the records from the orphanage office. And what I found led me to be scared and dumbfounded for a moment.

They were all gone. Whoosh! Into thin air! No sign of them anywhere! I thought of all the possibilities. Underworld Mafia, gangs, human trafficking, mad scientist labs and I tried to pry into all the documents but I found no clue. None.

And so I decided to take a risk. I put on my dark blue jacket and get out with my ragged bag. I am going to go out and investigate. Investigate and also run away. I am going to be independent as of this moment.

As I walk out in the courtyard, they look at me and whisper,

“Hey look at that weirdo..”

“Stop she will hear you. She is a psycho, leave it..”

“What do you expect from a wild child?”

“What a useless kid..”

I ignore all the whispers and head straight to the common room. I remember my friend, Leela telling me that her stepdad worked in the nearby town. I could try going there. Noone would notice until a few days.

People here shun me because I have been returned back from my family. The fact that I was a loved child is true. Mom loved me a lot. She made me cakes and she sang to me but then she disappeared one day. My neighbors found me on my doorstep, unconscious, after a few days. They were an old couple without children. So they decided to adopt me but then they also died in a car accident. And I had to be put in adoption. The orphanage disgusts me. They have a very dirty way of dealing with things. Here only the strong survive.

I jump down the window and pull my hood up. I look left and right. Its clear. And then I dash. I run the fastest I ever have until now till I reach out of the gate. I hear a shout from behind me and that makes me only speed up.

The sound of footsteps comes closer and closer.

‘I cannot be caught at any cost’, I grit my teeth as I run with all my life and run till I am out of breath.

I don’t notice anything around me as I keep running straight. I stop after I reach a safe hiding spot. My limbs feel as though they are non-existent and I cough and wheeze as I try to breathe.

I look back and there is no one. I have left it behind. I am finally free. I flash a grin to the Hell Orphanage as I run again.

After a few hours of running and stopping for two minute breaks, I reach a big sign that says

‘GRAYVILLE RAILWAY STATION’

I smile as I go in.

“Here I come, Universe! And from now on, I write my own destiny!”

Never would I have thought that the words I said would never actually come true. Because my destiny had already been written.

Somewhere in the universe....

“So, she has come, hasn’t she?“, the man asked as the blood red drink in his hand bubbled and sizzled as though it was boiling.

“She has a long way to go. It is not confirmed if she will be surely here, your liege.“, the girl who knelt on one knee said with her head down. She did not dare to look up in the fear of angering him. She was a knight and nothing more.

The man stood up as he gazed at the tiny figure on the crystal ball. It felt like he had never heard what the girl had said. His lips curved into a mischievous smile. His movements were lazy and laid back but his deep purple eyes told another story. His carefree smile made him look so familiar.

“You are in for an amazing welcome, Princess”, he said as he laughed out loud.

The station is not crowded at all. You can see a few travelers and some people from the village. There is also a group of gruff looking people running about here and there.

Hooligan one looks at Hooligan two and asks,

“Did you find the kid?”

Hooligan two scowls and gives Hooligan one a disdaining look.

“Would I be standing here if I found her you dickhead?”

Hooligan one again scowls as both of them go off to search for the kid.

They scourge the place but there is no sign of her.

Then they head off to another nearby station as they search around.

A small black coat hidden behind a column comes out. The person exudes a dangerous aura. His eyes flash with a wicked manner and he smiles mischievously as he disappears in a flash.
