Chapter 1

The girl stood near the shadowed wall. She was whispering; she was eager, as she knew she would do, because of the darkness. She walked to the field, where rodents were feeding on the disused food that was there near the scarecrows. She was a quiet child; she wasn't talkative to family members, and strangers; she lived alone in the gloomy house, with no one to talk to, except herself, and she was quite mad. Then she saw the shadows beckoning her, and she gripped the knife in her right hand, and talked to her favorite doll. Its black, soulless eyes didn't see the window in her bedroom, since it was dark inside, and cold all of the time. The heater was on, keeping the girl warm. 'Don't go in the field', she told the doll. It stared at the girl, and knew what was coming; it was all but a given, that the horror was in the house, eager to shatter the doll's nerves, and not the girl herself. She was reminded of her dead parents, and how they died. She shook her head, and was eager to go to sleep in the room, where the fields were.
