Chapter 1

Cloe, I don’t know what I’m going to do with you!. You can’t just hide from the world because you’re afraid of getting hurt. You don’t want to end up an old spinster, do you?!. HAHA, hilarious, Ash. Well, what can I say? I’m just looking out for you. You know, us girls got to stick together, she said. You sure got a funny way of showing that. I just finished booking the cruise; please try to have fun on your birthday. I know, but does it have to be a singles cruise. Well, Cloe, desperate times, Calls for desperate measures. Geez, I’m only turning twenty-seven, not forty-seven. In dog years, you’re 189 years old! ASH!!! Ugh.

Party boat in T-minus 3 Days, Woop Woop!!.

Please don’t remind me. I still have some things to prepare. I have one appointment left for my laser hair removal, as per your ever-so-subtle suggestion. Say goodbye to them werewolf legs, baby. Trust and believe; you will forever be grateful that you never have to shave again. Don’t you think you’re exaggerating a bit? Uh, no, I’m not. Exhibit A, she said, pointing to her baby soothe legs. Whatever, I said as I rolled my eyes. Moving on, I still need to get a swimsuit. A one-piece, of course. Uh, hell no; it better be a bikini. We are trying to get you a man remember!.

No, Ash, we are not; you are!!; Just you. Okay, okay. I’ll drop it. I just want to see you happy. You deserve someone just as amazing as you. I could not help but feel emotional. Aw Ash, I love you too. I know I can be a Debbie Downer sometimes. I will try to be more open-minded. Thanks for putting up with me. Don’t even say that. You’re like my sister. I’ll always be there for you. I know I can be crazy sometimes too. So like yeah, that’s for putting up with me too. We both laughed in unison.

The next few days leading up to the trip felt like a blur. I got the bikini, as per Ash’s request- let me see what we got here. Grabbing the yellow mustered bikini, she raised it in the air as if to better observe the prize she had just won. Please don’t get too excited; I’m going to be wearing a shirt on top of that. She snapped her head back and began to mutter something, then held back. Baby steps, I guess. At least you got the damn thing. Giving her a big old cheesy smile, I took back the bikini and hurled it into my suitcase. Finally, that’s everything. I’m all packed, I said. Great, we better getting going soon. We wouldn’t want to miss our flight to Miami, now would we?! Ash said. Oh no, that would be terrible, I said sarcastically.

Hang on; I need to use the restroom before we go. Hurry up; Ash said as she waited by the apartment door, clearly impatient. I began to do the pee-pee dance towards the bathroom. Ahh, empty bladder, that was a close one. Flushing the toilet, I made my way to the sink. Looking at myself in the mirror, I couldn’t help but feel a little depressed. I’ve always had some acne problems, and I was a little on the chubby side. On the upside, I had beautiful green eyes. When my hair didn’t give me problems, it was half decent with its brown natural wavey curls that reached midback. I was considered tall for a girl at 5′9. My light complexion was something most eastern women envied, or so I heard. Enough already; stop feeling sorry for yourself. Your not that bad, I keep telling myself. Then why haven’t I had any luck with the opposite sex?. Cloe!! Let’s go. The Uber driver is here. I coming already; calm your horses.

The ride to the airport was quiet. As usual, Ash was glued to her social media, Letting the whole world know of her future glamorous endeavors, while I, on the other hand, was praying to God this girl had not cooked up some crazy idea on this so-called trip to getting a man!. This is your stop, ladies, said the Uber driver in a raspy voice. Let’s get this party started, Ash proclaimed. I have this feeling I’m in for a roller coaster ride, and I only hope I’ll make it out intact. Luckily I packed light, unlike my dear Ash, who struggled to hold all of her things. Don’t you think you went a little overboard with all the luggage?. A girl can never have too many bags. You never know what might come in handy—making our way into the terminal, you could feel the excitement of the people around. I guess you could say that the atmosphere was rubbing off on me. I couldn’t help but feel a little excited. I mean, it is my birthday, and there’s nothing wrong with having some fun. Earth to Chloe!. Huh?- over here, we need to go this way to our terminal. Following Ash from behind, we came to the section with the glass wall, and there you could see all the cruise ships lined up waiting to depart. This was my first time going on a cruise ship. I couldn’t believe how massive they were from this view. This is the spot, she said. Okay, let’s take a sit I said. Pulling out my phone, I turned the camera on. Hey, Ash, let’s take a picture in front of the ship by the window. Okay, make sure you get my good side. Do you even have a bad side? I asked. You always look great in pictures. A man over the intercom spoke- we are now boarding trip 235487 for the Bahamas. Eeee, that’s us, Ash squealed.
