“You guys act like little kids.” Savannah is standing to my right looking down at the phone in my hands. I was using it to text Liam. Savannah takes my phone away from me and scrolls through the texts. “Like look at this…” She turns my phone to show me a series of texts where Liam and I were arguing about who was the meaner one. I roll my eyes and take my phone from her. “That has nothing to do with it.” I say as I tuck my phone into my pocket. Savannah folds her arms and gives me a look, “Sure it doesn’t.” I laugh at how sarcastic she sounds.

“Also, another thing- “holding my hand out I stop her from finishing her sentence. I already know what she is going to say, and I refuse to hear it. Every day when she sees me texting Liam, she rants about how I should just go talk to him. I never do though. Unless she forces me. Its much easier to text in my opinion. Then you can have a nice conversation with your friends while also having a conversation with someone else. Savannah goes to say it again, but I stop her by saying, “We should go find our other friends.” Then I pull her down the stairs all the way to the first floor of the school.

Once downstairs, Savannah and I easily find my other two best friends. Like usual, Madge and Gwen are in a huge group talking to people. Savannah quickly leaves me when she sees some of her other friends in the crowd. I walk around the huge group to go stand by Gwen. Gwen turns to me when she sees me walking up to her. She leaves and comes up to me. We link arms and start walking back upstairs because downstairs is not somewhere I like to be, and Gwen knows that. Once upstairs it only takes a few minutes for Savannah and Madge to come back up the stairs.

They walk up to us and the first thing Madge does is turn me around. “There you go. Perfect.” I laugh because I know exactly what she did. I look past her and see Liam talking to some of his friends. Shaking my head, I look back to Madge. “I think you are more obsessed than I am.” She just swats my shoulder and looks over her shoulder to make sure I can see him. Still looking over her shoulder, Madge answers, “Oh I don’t think so. You’re the most obsessed out of all of us.” Savannah laughs, “Are you sure about that Madge?” She asks. “Yeah.” I say folding my arms. Madge just waves us off.

Suddenly she gets an evil look on her face. She then whispers something to Savannah, and Savannah runs off somewhere. Gwen and I look at each other with raised eyebrows. We look for toward the place Savannah went and see that she is talking to Liam. “Oh no.” I say taking Gwen by the arm. “Let’s walk this way.” I point to the opposite direction from Savannah. Before we can take a step, Savannah comes in front of us. Hurriedly she takes Gwen’s arm. “I’ve got to talk to you um… somewhere else.” They then walk in another direction.

“Sure, they do.” I mutter under my breath as I turn to Liam. Unfortunately for them, right as Liam and I are going to talk to each other, the bell rings. I smile and shake my head knowing how disappointed they will be. So much for them not being obsessed.

Since it is testing week at school, the schedule is very messed up. This means that Madge and I finally get to eat lunch with Savannah and Gwen. We haven’t been able to eat lunch together since first semester. It’s nice being with my three friends at lunch. We hardly have any classes with all four of us. Even though Savannah and Gwen are with us at lunch, it is still a normal lunch. I tell Madge to eat her food and she eats my food. It is a good system in my opinion. I still get lunch, but Madge also gets lunch (since she usually only brings goldfish). The three of my friends talk and eat while I just eat. I’ve never been much of a talker at lunch. I’d much rather just eat my food.
When we all get done eating, we walk upstairs. Instead of going by the benches upstairs, Madge stops Savannah and Gwen right at the top of the stairs. “What…” Savannah goes to ask, but Madge cuts her off, “This is what we have to do.” She says pointing to a certain place downstairs. Gwen and Savannah look and immediately understand. I roll my eyes knowing exactly what they are looking at. Madge is right though. Every time we go upstairs before Liam, we stop right at the top of the steps so we can look down and see him. This was never my doing though. I always just walked up the stairs like a normal person. Madge always insinuated this. Maybe.
“Oh right.” Gwen nods “Legolas.” I frown at her comment. For some reason, my friends decided to call Liam by a different name. They concurred that it had to start with an L. The name Gwen decided was Legolas from Lord of the Rings. We all vetoed that option, but she is still so insistent. “I thought we banned that name.” I say to Gwen. Savannah nods, “Yeah we did ban it.” Gwen dramatically gasps and pretends to faint. “Legolas is amazing! You can’t ban that name!” “We did though.” Madge says to Gwen flicking her arm.
Gwen starts ranting about how great Legolas is, when I see from the corner of my eye that Liam is coming up the stairs. “Okay, time to move.” I start pushing Madge away from the stairs. “Wait but we have to stay here.” Madge says innocently nodding down to the first floor. I shake my head and tilt it towards the stairs. Madge looks over my shoulder and sees Liam walking up the stairs. “Oh! Yeah, let’s move.” We move over a few steps and Madge switch place with me so now I can easily see the top of the stairs. “Still obsessed.” I whisper under my breath. Madge swats my shoulder. “I am not. I’m just helping you out.” I roll my eyes and look over to where Gwen is still explaining why we should call Liam, “Legolas.”
“…and they both have nice blond hair. They are both tall too. How is that no reason enough?” Savannah looks like she is about to laugh, and Madge just has a wide-eyed look. “Gwen” I say cautiously, “We are not calling him Legolas.” Gwen throws her arms up, “Well then what will we call him?” I shrug, as does Savannah and Madge. “Well then I am still going to call him Legolas.” Gwen folds her arms, and a look of determination sets on her face. I know I should stop arguing with her. “Fine call him whatever you want.” Clapping her hands Gwen starts saying “Legolas” over and over in a singsong voice. I should have argued a bit more.

The lunch bell rings indicating that lunch is over. Madge, Savannah, and Gwen all walk together in group talking as they walk to math. Instead of walking with them, (not that they would let me), I walk with Liam. He is trying to get me to tell him something that I wouldn’t tell him yesterday. I try to remember what the whole thing is about, but my mind comes up blank. We argue so much about stuff that I don’t tell him that I forget half the stuff he’s trying to get me to tell him. I don’t tell him I’ve forgotten this though. I just keep telling him that I won’t tell him what he wants to know. I’ll figure out what I’m supposed to tell him eventually. Right?
“You have to tell me.” Liam says as we walk down the math hall. “No.” I simply say. Liam glares at me, “You said you would, so you have to.” I think back to some of our recent conversations trying to recall me saying that I would tell him. I remember that I told him that I would tell him at lunch, but I still deny that I ever told him. “I never said that.” I counter folding my arms. He raises his eyebrows, not believing me. “Yes, you did.” “No, I didn’t” “Yes, you did” “No, I didn’t.” That’s how the rest of the conversation goes until we get into math.
When I sit in my seat, I immediately pull out my phone and text Liam.
Me: I never said that
He looks down at his phone then looks up and glares at me from his seat. He then texts something and puts his phone away.
Liam: Yes, you did. Do you need proof?
I roll my eyes. Of course, I don’t need proof. That would just ruin my whole plan. I still haven’t even remembered what I am supposed to tell him.
Me: No. I don’t need proof.
Liam: Then you agree that you said you would
tell me.
How does that logic work?
Me: No
Liam: Yes
Me: No
Liam: Yes
Me: No
Liam: Yes

It goes on like this for the rest of math. Occasionally we would stop arguing to actually do math, but that was only once or twice at most.
After math Liam comes up to me while I am putting my stuff in my backpack. “You have to tell me.” He says matter-of-factly. I roll my eyes and zip up my backpack. Standing up I say, “I do not. Give me one reason why I have to tell you.” “Because you told me you would.” Liam says as we walk out to the classroom door and stop to wait for Madge. “I have no idea what you are talking about.” I say as Madge walks up to us. We all walk out of the math hall together while Liam tries to get me to tell him the thing I still don’t remember. “And what am I even supposed to tell you?” I ask him after a while. Liam glares at me, “Really? You forgot? How did you forget?” I just shrug and keep walking to class. Liam and Madge have the same last period after math. Theirs is upstairs, mine is downstairs. We split ways when we get near their class. They go to their class and I go to mine.

Liam: How’s it going?
I’m sitting on my bed doing homework when his text comes in. Well actually I’m not doing homework. I am supposed to be doing homework, but instead I am memorizing pi. I’m not sure if that is better or worse than doing homework. I am doing it, nonetheless. I see his text and breath out a sigh. He always randomly asks this question because he knows I hate it. I have no reason to hate the question, but I do. And because I hate it; I never answer the question.
Me: No
Liam: It’s just a question.
Me: A question I hate.
Liam: Why do you hate it though?

I think about it, trying to find an actual reason of why I don’t like it. I can’t think of a real reason, so I just say the first thing that comes to mind.
Me: It’s too confusing
Liam: How?

Darn. Now I have to come up with an answer for that. Instead of coming up with a real explanation, I just say the thing I usually say when I don’t want to answer questions.
Me: Because
Liam: Wow some great reasoning there.

I laugh at how sarcastic the text was. You wouldn’t think that texts could be so sarcastic, but they can.
Me: I know
Still laughing to myself, I put my phone down and start doing my homework. (for 2 minutes until I take a 2-hour break to watch a movie)
