Long Awaited Meeting

Loud talking, horse's hooves clunking on the planks, and the hustle and bustle of the docks of England was a sight to be seen for sure. Through the crowds of people and animals stood a young boy, he was pale and scrawny, not much meat to the bone. Within his frail fingers rested the brass handles to leather suitcases. Those leather suitcases were weathered and very well-loved by their owners. The right leather suitcase was a muted burgundy with a lackluster gold lining. Connecting those together was an off-white crème colored thread that was becoming frayed and torn with age. The other suitcase was a pleasing, dark brown polished leather with a silver trim and silver thread lining the seemingly brand-new edges of the suitcase. Within the travel bags contained a multitude of things ranging from clothing and hygiene products to books and writing utensils.

Standing next to the young boy was a lanky, slightly hunched over old man, looking to be 60's years of age. His grey hair was thinning and showed the top of his head, to contrast against his head balding, was his luscious beard that hung low from his chin. His face was contorted into a smile, his wrinkles causing his emerald eyes to close. He looked down towards his grandson, gently patting his back. The noirette looked up to his grandfather, his beautiful ocean eyes glimmered in the summer's rays. His eyes held excitement and adventure as he rotated his head to glance at the ship parallel to him.

"Grandfather, aren't you excited for this journey?" His smooth, honey like voice rang out in pure childish excitement. They were going to travel the seas with his father; who was a pirate.

"Of course, Kairi. We will have wonderful experiences with your father." The old man replied, his voice was deep and brittle, full of wisdom and aged experience.

Both males then turned fully to the ship as they heard an older male shouting for all those who are joining the Rocky Rodger to come aboard for they were about to set their sails. Kairi and his grandfather took quick strides towards the ship, admiring the wooden exterior, the hawk head on the front, and the beautiful sails, whipping through the air, waving their hands to invite the two passengers on a ride of their lives. They looked towards the bridge, seeing his father standing on the edge of the bridge.

"My boy! Come aboard!" Gene waved him closer, his brown hair fell gracefully along his shoulders, a red bandana was wrapped around his forehead and his bangs were tied back and braided into beads of all colors, ranging from brilliant emerald green to the deepest black. He had a toothy grin on his face, his teeth weren't the prettiest, but they were strong and hearty. He stood, his broad shoulders made his loose white shirt a little pulled around the edges, over his scrappy white shirt was a brown vest, tied loosely with twine that had been sewn through the waist line. Masking all of these clothes, was a vibrantly colored red coat, buttoned up to his neck. He wore shaggy, dirty and wet brown pants with patches covering some ripped parts.

Kairi and his grandfather happily stepped aboard the Rocky Rodger and were pleasantly surprised to see the deck in pristine conditions. Kairi whipped around to hug his father tightly, dropping the bags to the wooden planks beneath his feet. He squeezed his father, a bright smile on his face.

"I missed you father, I honestly did. I didn't know when you would be coming back." Kairi admitted, his goofy smile frozen on his face. He greatly enjoyed seeing his father after he had continued his pillaging down on the south side of the globe. His mother, who had passed away shortly after Gene had gone on his voyage, would've loved to see her husband but sadly, she had passed away from severe head trauma after she had fallen from the attic of her house. Kairi had been in a bad spot from there on, that's when his grandfather, Leonard, came to his rescue.

When they both heard the news that some pirates would be returning to dock to see their families, Kairi was beyond excited to his father once more and better yet, he had come of age to finally join his father on his journeys to the ends of the world and back.

"I missed you too Lad, now let's you both a decent room to sleep in. Alright?" Gene stated, kneeling down to clasp his rough, sandpaper hands on his son's shoulders. Kairi nodded back and smiled, looking up at his grandfather.

"I must admit, Gene, I never expected you to get this far as a pirate, I just assumed that you would've been hanging in the gallows by now." The old man joked, nudging his son in his side, causing Gene to scoff and turn from his father.

"Ay ay ay, let's just get you all a room. Follow me." He said, leading them from the deck to the forecastle, where most of the men slept in torn sails turned into makeshift hammocks. Some had curtains hanging to protect their privacy but it was rare occasions when they actually used it since they had seen things much worse than a man changing or sleeping. Kairi followed, noticing mold in the corners of some of the walls or rats scurrying from hole to hole. He grimaced, turning away and hoping the food they ate wasn't infested with rat droppings or things of the liking. Once he was introduced into the forecastle, he looked around in quiet consideration, trying to find a good spot for him to make a bed comfortable enough to sleep in. He knew he wasn't used to this lifestyle, but he was excited to see where this adventure would lead him.
