The End

----Bella didn't look at me or the stereo. Neither of us switched it on, and the silence was somehow intensified by the sudden thunder of the engine. I drove fast down the dark, serpentine lane.
----The silence was deafening.
----"Edward, I'm leaving,"
----I gasped, losing my focus. The old truck swerved for a moment before it returned back to its original position. I stared at the windshield, my eyes wide and unseeing. My hands clenched the steering wheel, and I was surprised it didn't crack under my grasp. I felt my heart squeeze uneasily. What did she mean, 'I'm leaving'? I whimpered too quietly for Bella to hear, my eyes slipping closed.
----"What?" I asked, my voice cracking. I had to concentrate on not hyperventilating, but the panic that bubbled in my chest as each second passed made it extremely difficult.
----"I'm leaving, Edward. What happened with Jasper was too close. I finally realized how right you were. I don't belong in your world. You're not good for me." Bella said, her voice cold and uncaring.
----And at that exact moment, everything shattered.
----Like pieces of stain glass, each and every part of un-beating my heart fell from my chest and clinked to the ground. The emptiness I felt was unnerving. If it wasn't for my supernatural awareness, we would have crashed by now. I swallowed deeply before answering.
----"Why?" I whispered shakily, biting my bottom to hold in my sobs. I wanted nothing more than to collapse to my knees and ask for her to stay. But I couldn't get my limbs to move. I was immobile.
----Bella sighed frustratingly. "I finally realized what your family are; monsters!"
----I winced, her words cutting me to the core. I summoned enough strength to glance over at Bella.
----Her eyes. They were different.
----They weren't a warm, melty, chocolate brown. They were hard and icy, her dark eyes filled with hate. Hate for me.
----"Oh." I said dully, lifelessly. I felt my body go limp; my shoulders sagging in defeat, my hands unclenching. My mind scattered, thinking of different ways to beg. "Okay." I whispered, my voice hoarse and trembling. I squeezed my eyes shut, blinking away venom tears.
----"If you would drove me home I would appreciate it," she said, her voice slightly softer.
----I nodded helplessly. "Of course." I murmured.
----The drive home was silent.
----As I pulled up to Charlie's house, I felt as if all the life was drained from me. I heard Bella shifting in the passenger seat but I didn't look at her. I just looked down, my eyes seeing nothing.
----"Goodbye, Edward." Bella whispered in my ear. I almost jumped in surprise. I hadn't heard her move. She brushed away some hair that had fallen into my eyes, and I marveled the feeling of her warm fingertips grazing my skin. My lips moved, and I whispered the only words I could.
----"Don't." I pleaded, my gaze shifting from my lap to her face. I saw something flash in her eyes, but it disappeared before I could identify it.
----"Take care of yourself." She placed a small, soft kiss on my cheek.
----I reached for the door handle, but paused, turning back to Bella. "Goodbye, Bella." I whispered, disappearing from her sight.

----I collapsed before I made it to the steps of my house. I let loose an agonized cry, my arms wrapping around myself and my knees folded beneath me. I heard gasps come from inside the house. My family rushed outside, bewildered by my cries. They all froze when they saw my body rocking with sobs. Carlisle was first to recover.
----"Edward?" my father asked, his voice tight with worry.
----"She's gone. . ." I sobbed, my chest heaving with each shuddering breath I took. My cries increased when their thought filled with. . . her name. Even thinking about her hurt.
----I was drowning.
----I gasped for breath I didn't need, my sobs coming harder and louder.
----"Edward. . ." my mother wailed, rushing up to crush me into a hug, one of her arms wrapping around my shoulder and the other holding up my head. I slumped in her arms, too numb to do anything else.
----The rest of my family walked over and wrapped me in a huge embrace; some people would call it a group hug. My sadness become their sadness. My pain become their pain.
----I wasn't the only one who lost someone.
----Esme and Carlisle lost their youngest daughter.
----Alice and Emmett lost their little sister.
----Jasper and Rosalie lost their brother.
----I lost everything.
----As I cried, I also floated. I floated away into darkness, the waves of sorrow and agony drowning me. They pulled me under, taking the breath from my lungs and the light from my heart. The waves took everything; it made me numb. Lifeless. Unfeeling. Empty.
----And I did not resurface.
