Chapter 1
Detective Nelson
“The moon that shines bright at night has a mysterious dark side, which we never get to see. The same goes with human beings as well.”
“It has already been a year since it happened. How fast does the time slip.” Dennis thought while his eyes have gazed at the little piece of paper. The episodes of the unforgettable incident were coming to Dennis’s mind one by one, as he was gazing at the shining moon through his window.
It was a cold day in December 1974 around 7.30 in the morning. Dennis Carter was sitting at his desk drinking a warm cup of coffee when his friend William came by and said,
“Hey Den, Chief is looking for you. I think you better hurry”
“I guess it’s about the recent murders in Arizona”
“Good gracious!”
“Seriously Den; Are you the great Dennis Carter? I can’t believe you haven’t heard about the homeless killings.” William said in a disappointed voice.
“I was engaged with the City Park Mystery Will…I wasn’t able to see the newspapers for a few days. Wait a minute…did you say homeless killings?”
“Oh, man….no time to explain. Hurry up now.”
Dennis grabbed his coat and hurried towards the chief police inspector’s room. Richard, the head officer of the Los Angeles Police Department was with another person when he entered the office.
“Ah… Dennis, please take a seat and meet one of my old friends, Detective Nelson. Nelson, this is Police inspector Carter who solved the City Park Murder case. I’m certain he is the suitable person who can help you with your matter.”
As these words came out from the chief’s mouth Detective Nelson’s glittering sharp eyes were pointed at Dennis. He was a tall middle-aged man with a clean-shave. But at the time he looked like a restless man and it was clear something very unusual has happened.
“Pleasure to meet you, Police inspector…” He said with a gentle voice. “I came from Phoenix to meet my friend Richard to ask some advice. He said that you are one of the brightest police inspectors he knows and you’ll be able to help me out with my case. I must say this case has been driving everyone crazy and I have to admit we couldn’t get at least one step further towards solving this mystery. That’s when I thought of asking help from Richard.” Detective Nelson continued his talk without getting a moment to breathe.
“I will do my best sir, but I don’t know anything about these incidents. So first I need to know the full detail of this case. Then I will see what I can do to help you.”
“Very well. Let me tell you the full details of the Kanaima Mystery."
