Her Majesty
"I will save my kingdom, until my last dying breath." I seethed "I don't care what curse you think there is, I will be the one to prove you wrong and bring this empire into the light." I threw my glass across the room, opened the council room door, and slammed it closed. I stormed off to chambers, in an attempt to blow off some steam.
"Pfft curse of the first-born daughter." I scoffed to myself, my people think that low of me. I've been queen for over two years, and now that some unforeseen prophecy has appeared they're now turning against me. What a load of bullshit I thought as I walked over to my fireplace, grabbing a glass, filling it with wine, and taking a long sip while pondering some choices I've made. I started to pace around my room again getting lost inside my thoughts when I heard a knock at my door.
"Enter," I said softly. A few seconds passed, no one entered, and the knock rang out again. "I said enter!" I yelled.
"Your Majesty, I do apologize I didn't hear you the first time." My servant Eleanor spoke.
"Oh my, Eleanor I'm so sorry I didn't realize it was you, god I would have never yelled like that.
"It's quite alright Your Majesty, I know all the stress you're under right now, I was just coming to check if you were ready to get dressed for your ball this evening." She spoke walking towards my massive wardrobe. "The seamstress finished your dress the night before, I had Astrid bring it up while you were in the council room." She added.
"Thank you, I don't think I tell you enough, but I do appreciate you a lot, Eleanor." I smiled.
She smiled back to me and then walked over to help me out of my "casual" dress. She pulled on my corset and started to tie it, and finally helped me into my massive green ball gown.
"Come Your Majesty let me fix your hair before you have to go," Eleanor said.
She took the crown of my head, grabbed the brush, and started brushing my hair.
"So, Your Majesty if it's not to forward my I ask, are you interested in any of the suitors that have presented themselves?" she said breaking the silence.
I chuckled, "I wondered how long it was going to take you to ask that. No, no of them seem fit, and I'm perfectly content with being by myself. Contrary to popular belief, not every woman needs a husband."
She laughed in response and continued to fix my hair.
"Alright Your Majesty, I'm done now. You look gorgeous Your majesty, but I have one more thing for you." She said walking over to my seating area and pulling a box from under the sofa.
"I asked the jeweler to make it last minute, I know who much you like the colors green and black, so I had him include those colors, I hope you like it, Your Majesty."
"Oh Eleanor, you shouldn't have. Thank you so much." I said as she placed it on my head, the gemstones shining in every light. I got up quickly and embraced her in a hug. She was taken aback at first but then started to hug me back.
"You're welcome Your Majes-"
"Y/n I cut her off, please call me Y/n. After all, you've done for me these last two years, the least you can do is call me by my name." I spoke.
She smiled "Well, you're welcome Y/n, now hurry you going to be late for your ball.
I smiled back and made my way out of my chambers, down to the corridor towards the grand staircase. I started to walk down the steps towards the ballroom entrance and saw my guards standing outside.
"Your majesty you look wonderful this evening." My guard Alfred said.
"Thank you. Please let Commadore Harrington that I'm ready." I smiled.
He nodded his head and knocked on the door four times, signaling my arrival.
"Now presenting Her Majesty the Queen." Commadore Harrington announced.
The doors flew open, and all eyes fell on me. I held my head up high and walked in towards my throne and analyzed my surroundings. I go to the steps before my throne, and my guard held his hand out to help me up. I placed my hand in his and walked up the steps and turned to my people.
"My loyal subjects I thank you all so much for being here, and making your presence known, please do know that I will have a council meeting tomorrow to speak about this so-called prophecy, but enough with such sad and worrisome talk," I spoke and turned my head to the orchestra.
"Let the dancing and festivities begin," I announced, queuing the music, everyone started dancing and I sat on my throne watching my people have a good time. I started thinking back to what Eleanor said, part of me does want to be with someone. But I want to prove that I can be a strong queen and prove that some women don't need men.
"Your Majesty, I present to you Nikolaus De Clare, the newest suitor." Commadore Harrington said.
"Your Majesty, it's a pleasure to meet you." He bowed, "You are as beautiful as people speak." He added.
"Flattering will get you far," I smirked.
He smiled back.
"But not with me." I went straight-faced.
He stopped smiling, "Your Majesty I didn't mean any harm I apologize. On other notice my I have a dance with you." He held out his hand.
I stood up and took his hand, and he led me to the ballroom floor. The orchestra started playing a new song, as we danced to the beat. People started stepping back leaving just us on the dance floor. Nikolaus knew what he was doing, he twirled me around the ballroom like a leaf blowing in the wind, never missing a beat. Eventually, the music came to an end.
"Your Majesty, if I may could we take a walk." He said after our dance.
"I'd love too, here we can walk in the royal gardens, follow me," I responded
We casually walked around the garden exchanging conversation. We stood in silence for a few minutes until he broke it.
"Your Majesty, you are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen." He said.
"Thank you." I blushed.
"I do hope you give me a chance to court you." He added
"I just might," I responded
Maybe finding someone to love wasn't so bad, my I could get used to this
