Chapter 1:"This one's a different shade of white."

My eyes fly open, covered in my own pool of sweat.

'Never tell, you are...no one...my love'

The words keep replaying themselves in my head. Giving me a terrible headache, I shut my eyes and try to remember the gaps in between the sentence that a lovely voice keeps reminding me every night when I sleep, but like always, nothing happens.

I always wake up earlier than everyone. My nightmares never let me sleep. I roll over to the side, pulling my wheel chair. I groan as I stress to sit in it, letting out a breath as I finally get comfortable in the chair, I wheel myself to the bathroom.

Using the controls for the wheels, I wheel to the bathroom sink, picking out my toothbrush. I smack on some toothpaste and shove it into my mouth, once I'm done, I look at myself in the mirror, staring st my electric blue eyes and the black wig firmly placed on my head.

I move closer to the specially designed seat under the shower. I transfer myself, sitting in the bathing chair, I pull off the black wig, my fire red hair tumbling down my shoulders. I don't ever remember where I got the wig, I just woke up in a hospital and saw the wig in my head, something just never let me take it off.

Anytime I wanted to take it off, I'd have that nightmare, that voice telling me not to tell anyone and I had a feeling that it was about my hair.

I turn on the shower, immediately welcoming the stinging pain of the water hitting my skin, it's why I hate this stupid baths, I was never trained to control the electricity within me. It's why I get shocked all the time, everyday that I became so used to it, it became my personal torture.

If you haven't already guessed, I am a gifted. It means we have things that other people don't, and not the kind of rich snob kid, this is where you might say we have powers, a blessing that every kid imagines and wants.

I'd call it a curse, just mutated body nerves and systems, we're all cooped up in this huge building, never to see the outside world, we all don't remember anything apart from life in this building.

I wash my hair and the black wig, I pull the towel and wrap it around myself, drying my body, I tug on my underwear, pull a bra on and push myself into my wheelchair. I move to the dressing table and get the blow dryer plugged in, first I dry the wig and brush it, then I get to my own hair. After drying it, I brush through it and wait a little for it to be thoroughly dried, before fixing on the wig, it looks just as normal as anyone's actual hair.

I blow out a breath and wheel back into the room. I open the closet doors and stare at the line of plane white clothes.

White T-shirts, white long sleeved shirts, white sweatpants, white tight pants, they're all white!

After getting dressed, I wheel out of my room, greeted by other white clothed people, "Hello Nine!" I turn and see Sixteen smiling at me, "Hello Sixteen, have you seen Twenty-eight?" She shakes her head and walks away as Twelve calls her.

I sigh and wheel to Twenty-eight's room. Knocking softly, I hear shuffling then a very messed up looking Twenty-eight opens the door smiling widely. I chuckle and move into her room, "Nine, I am in a disaster, I don't know what to wear!" She screeches.

This is a new problem today. I'm surprised, I look at her as she pulls out a white long sleeved shirt and another white long sleeved shirt. Blinking, I look at her, "They're literally the same thing." I deadpan, she groans, "No, this one is a different shade of white! I have to get this right, oh." I furrow my brows, "I don't think white has a shade."

She looks at me like I'm the crazy one then finally pulls one over her head. "How do I look?" She asks and smiles sweetly at me, "Like everyone else does, now come on, we gotta go." She groans, clearly not liking the idea that she's not standing our and being the attention.

She sticks her hand in her blonde hair, making it a little messy but still pretty, her green eyes roll as I raise a brow at her, then she starts following me, it doesn't take long until we get to the dinning hall, people roaming around, getting food, those who are already done with their food stand in line to get their nutrition pills, like, if we're already eating healthy food, why still give us nutrition pills?

Why can't we get something extremely sweet and creamy and cold? Not sweet like peach fruits!

I move and get my tray, Twenty-eight following closely behind me, we get our food, baloney and a salad, juiced mango in a cup was placed in our trays, silently, we move to one of the benches, I smile as she digs in, not caring if anyone was watching her.

I pick at my food, the loud chattering of the voices of some of the new Numbers at the other end of the hall, I shove a piece of the meat and chew silently on it, "Have you heard?" Twenty-eight suddenly asks, "Heard what?" I question as I chew the salad.

"So you mean you haven't heard?" I shake my head, "I don't know what you're talking about." She clicks her tongue, shaking her head in disappointment, "A new kid is coming tomorrow, Fifty says Two is bringing him." I sigh, everyone up till twenty is allowed to get out and search for more gifteds', but not me.

Not me because of my legs, not me because they think I'm useless, not me because they never advanced my training to the masters level, all because I don't know how to use my legs.

And they didn't even tell me how I lost the goddamn legs!

Once we're done, we move to the line and get our pills, about to carry on with our daily activities, I oversee the training of the new Numbers while Twenty-eight assists me. Well assist me by maybe flirting with them and convincing them to train if they want a special reward, they always fall for it.

The doors suddenly bursts open and a really young boy of about ten walks in, Two close behind. I look at Two, a scar running across his left eye that makes it red, he looks so scary but is a softie at heart. He walks over to me, "Nine this is your new student, you'll go easy on him since he's just a kid, you can register him in your class, you know the drill." I nod and his lips twitch up into a smirk.

"When you're done with class, come to my room." I smile at him now and nod, "C'mon, let's get some food into that stomach of yours." I smile at the boy who grins back, so adorable!

Okay, I know I haven't updated in like nine days but...here's an update!

Updates on this book will be a little slower than my other book 'River' since I'm focusing a little more on that one.

I'll try to update a little faster anyways but you can never know...

Okay, the next update will not take as long as this chapter did from prologue...I hope.

Alright, so here it is...

Xoxo,
