Hello
Well, this is a bit awkward isn’t it? You’re finally here, and I look like this. God I should’ve shaved, I look like a complete and utter train wreck.
Oh, my apologies. I should probably introduce myself. My name is Dean. Dean Whims.
I’m rather embarrassed to mention how anxious and excited I’ve been in the past. When I knew you’d be here I just, wow I mean, my world changed completely. I had something to finally look forward to.
And here you are. Right here, looking at the very words I’m speaking right at this moment. I wonder if there’s any words I can think of that’ll make you smile, maybe even get a laugh outta you.
Bubbles.
Delicious.
Lollygag.
Abracadabra.
Doppelgänger.
Blubber.
Aardvark.
Sorry, I ramble when I get nervous. I could go on if you’d like. I closed my eyes as I spoke in fear that you just stared at me in boredom. I hope I made you smile, even if it was for a millisecond.
You know, a part of me is thrilled you can’t see me. It’s a tiny part of me, but it still exists. I look like this and you... God you look stunning. Your eyes are a color I’ve never seen before. The sparkle in them just made me gasp aloud and gaze at you in even more wonder.
I cannot state this enough. How much of an idiot I look like right now. I mean, Christ, you would think I was a little boy entering the world’s biggest candy store for the first time.
There’s so much to tell you, I don’t even know where to start. Should I talk about me, or let you start? My mind is speeding right now. Let me start with what I like. That’s what most people do when they meet a beautiful stranger... right?
Well I like to read, mostly historical fiction if we’re being honest. I know it sounds beyond boring, but there’s something about visualizing something magical like romance in times where violence and sadness were so present.
I love the smell of rain. It brings me a sense of tranquility like nothing else. Come to think of it, I don’t think anything else in the world can bring me that feeling. Just waking up in between tossed and twisted linen sheets and rolling over to inhale the sweet air brought in from the slightly ajar window... there’s something truly magnificent about it.
Most people hate the rain, even so much as to despise it. They have to go through all the trouble of finding their raincoats and umbrellas and dreading the feeling of the water trickling down their necks.
But I cannot get enough of it. The earth has so many beautiful and unique qualities that people take for granted. I hope you don’t dislike the rain. This is going to sound absolutely corny but I’ve carried a dream with me ever since I watched that stupid film when I had given up on my Sunday crossword puzzle. I’m sure you’ve seen it. You know, the one where the boy and the girl end up getting caught in the rain and instead of cursing and running from it they just accept it and kiss each other passionately... like there’s no one else they’d rather be with right in that moment?
Well... I want to experience that with someone. Someone who loves the rain just as much as I do and who doesn’t want to be anywhere else. I must admit, I feel feverish as I tell you this. A guy shouldn’t be telling the person they just met the cheesiest dream to ever exist. But I suppose it’s too late to take it back now. I just hope you agree with me, or at least pretend to for my own sake.
Oh dear. My doorbell has just rung. I completely lost track of time and forgot to mention I’m having a few colleagues over for dinner. Margaret and Dennis are celebrating their anniversary and as a gift I told them I would make their favorite truffle cake after a nice and filling pasta dinner. I also invited Tim over since he looked lonely. He’s not a terrible man, very scrawny and reserved. We’ve never been good at hanging outside of our workplace, but sometimes we meet at the other’s desk and talk about our most beloved authors and books. He’s a very wise man if you stop and take a moment to speak with him.
Of course. You must be beyond confused as I spew these names and facts to you. I promise you after this dinner I will explain everything in more detail. I want you to know everything about me as I want to know everything about you. After all, I find myself becoming an open book to those who I like and enjoy.
I have to tear myself away now, my guests are ringing again and I would hate to keep them waiting. I promise to return soon.
Until then,
Dean
