Chapter 1
Nile
“Nile come on, you’ve got to rethink this!”
“No I’m going and if you have a problem with it you can kiss my a-”
“I mean what the hell are you even going to do there huh? That is the most unsafe part of the galaxy, I mean look what happened to Nikolas, do you see him around anywhere? because I don’t!”
“Look Oliver, I quite frankly don’t give a damn about what you think at this moment and I’m going, that’s final!”
he sigh
“Well I guess I’m going to have to come to look over your stubborn ass.”
“Really?” he nods “Oliver you don’t know how much I love you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
“Nile? Nile come on, you have to wake up!” I groan and slowly open my eyes to see my best friend Oliver frantically shaking me so I stare at him confused. What the hell do these people not understand about shifts? Mine doesn’t start for 3 more hours.
“Leave me alone. I need to sleep.”
“No Nile! You need to seriously wake up. We have a situation.” At Oliver’s last sentence I swiftly got out of bed.
“Can someone please tell me what is going on? And why the hell are there sirens ringing?” Instinctively my hands went to my ears as my body took time to register that was now ringing through the entire ship.
“I-I didn’t mean to Nile it all just kinda, well it all just kinda happened and I didn’t know what to do, I-I’m sorry Nile i didn’t mean to I swear!”
Oh my days! I love my friends to death but at this moment he has five seconds until I go into full killer mode.
“Well how about you stop rambling and tell me what happened.” The siren got louder. “And turn the damn siren off! While you’re at it!”
He took two deep breaths before speaking “Well last night on my shift I went over the ship’s logs and controls to see if could manage to maybe increase our ship’s mobility so that we could rely on auto pilot since I thought we could use some extra sleep”
I nodded. Still confused as ever.
He takes a long pause
“So..” I moved my hands in a circular motion to prompt him
“So everything was working fine until I rechecked the logs yet again about 10 minutes ago and they are predicting our descend into an unknown planet, the only information I have on it is that the oxygen levels on there are stable and that the temperature levels are extremely low”
“Well leave it to Oliver’s dumb-ass to mess everything up.” Autumn snorted from the other side of the ship and almost immediately Oliver glared at her.
“May I ask what you were doing? I mean your shift is directly after Oliver’s and if you hadn’t been doing whatever the hell you had been doing we would have been able to address the problem earlier and got it sorted so its both of your dumb-asses fault!” I yell, Autumn raises her hands in defense and says “Look, all I’m saying is that Oliver isn’t necessarily the brains of this team I mean who would be dumb enough to leave the controls unattended.”
“Literally you!” He yells.
“Doesn’t ring a bell.” she says
Oliver throws his middle finger at her and she holds her heart and gives him a sarcastic shocked face before blowing him a kiss.
I swear these two will be the death of me.
Their bickering continues and I rub my head because I’m very annoyed that I got paired with these two balloon heads for this space exploration.
Oliver has been my best friend for as long as I can remember and Autumn has been such an amazing friend to me since I was 13 years old, however as smart as they are and as much as I love them I can’t help but feel like I’m their mother even though I’m the youngest!
“Oliver, how much time do we have until we make contact with the planet?” I ask. “About 37 minutes 53 seconds well 51 now and 46 milliseconds to be exact.” he replied. Damn 37 minutes would be a drag and I’m not sure if our ship could hold for that long “Autumn, is there a way we could speed up our descent into the planet?” she scrambles over the controls “Nile you’re not going to like this.” Autumn says.
Great another fucking problem “What do you mean?”. She bites the inside of her lip in a nervous m“I can only cut our travel time short by 10 minutes and I don’t think the ship will be able to hold up even after the cut.” I sigh. You’ve got to be shitting me. “It’s alright we’ll have to take what we can get”.
We descend closer and closer until we are just about a kilometre from the surface when Autumn screams. “Nile there is human life down there and in the direction we are going we could very much kill them!”.
“Huh?” I smile knowing that we’re not alone or at risk of being confronted by an alien race. Then her words sink in.
You’ve got to be kidding me
’Well why the hell didn’t you tell me earlier? Oh my gosh how many people are down there?” I scream at her which is kind of unfair but then yet again this is a life or death.
“I couldn’t get the life presence reading earlier but the computer is detecting about 10 to 15 life readings” I let out a loud sigh. Well I’ll be damned, considering the speed we are travelling and the state of our ship. I only have two options: kill all of those people down there or change our travel route and potentially kill us. “What do we do Nye?” Oliver asks “Goddammit! I don’t fucking know OK?” I yell because quite frankly I am very frustrated and I don’t know what the hell I’m going to do. “Well, figure it out soon captain because we are about to touch surface with the planet,” Oliver says, his voice angry. Shit. I knew I shouldn’t have signed up for this. Why didn’t I listen to everyone else?

“Shutup!”
“What?” Autumn and Oliver turn to look at me as if I’m a crazy person
“Nothing! Nevermind.” I shook my head to get rid of my stupid subconscious.

“Autumn, can you check the logs one more time?” I ask
“Ok no problem.” she replies, moving her fingers quickly over the board.
It’s ok Nile you got this. You got this. You got this. I got this. Yeah I got this.

“What the fuck Nile! You’ve got to stop.” Oliver yelled.
The ship was speeding up. Faster than I expected. Way faster than I expected.
“She can’t stop, dumbass!” Autumn yelled back.
The ship went faster.
Shit, I can’t do this.
