Prologue
Prologue:
The first time Elio and Luna Virgo had died was the scariest. The second, third, and fourth times were the hardest. By their tenth rebirth the sibling duo were used to it. On their 100th life they were annoyed and just wanted to die peacefully, but of course that wouldn’t happen. When Luna had reached her 499th rebirth the two hoped that they would finally get a break. Maybe when she reached her 500th life they would live out the rest of their days without dying at the age of 35 for Luna or 30 for Elio. Maybe they could have families without worrying, maybe they could finally rest.
The duo were currently sitting at their dining room table, silently staring at each other. It was currently 2:55 p.m. At exactly 3 o’clock they were going to die, Elio for the 399th and Luna for the 499th time.
“Well” Luna sighed “Here we go again brother”
“Ugh, can’t those damn witches give me a break. I’m almost 12,000 years old for christ sake, let me die in peace.” Elio complained
Luna just chuckled at her brother’s complaining, but she was upset too. She was technically almost 17,500 years old if you added all of her past lives together. The two had been rebirthed everyday on their 30 and 35th birthday. They had been to multiple different realities and universes, they had been gods, angels, vampires, witches, and even superheros, but no matter what they did they always died and then started a new life the same day. The two were used to dying, at some point the two had even killed each other, but eventually they became tired, wanting and waiting for their time of death. Their permanent death.
Luna remembered during her 296th she had stumbled upon a group of dark witches (whom she later came to know as the Daughters of the Unseen) and learned from them that she and her brother were cursed because of something her ancestors did. Luna had been infuriated with the news and tried every way she could to break the curse, but to no avail. And so here the two were, ready to die yet again.
“I don’t want to be a baby again, I’ve had enough of breastmilk.” Elio muttered
“God. I always hate being so annoying as a baby, at this rate I think I’ll never have kids if I have to deal with a demon like that.” Luna chuckled
“Ding” a mental bell chimed as the clock struck 3 o’clock
The apartment filled with silence, only the beating of two human hearts could be heard. But slowly those heartbeats faded away, leaving only the bodies of the immortals.
Luna groaned as she slowly awoke from her short slumber. The girl looked around, only to be confronted with trees, and when she looked at her body she was confused “Why am I 18 years old instead of a baby?” In all of Luna’s many lives she had never woken up as a child, teenager, or adult. She had only ever been rebirthed as a baby. As the girl tried to sit she realized there was a heavy weight on her.
“Ugh get up Elio. You weigh a ton.” Luna said as she tried to push the boy off of her
“I’m tired, Loony.” The boy yawned
Luna only rolled her eyes at the boy's nickname for her. He gave it to her when the two watched Harry Potter in their first life.
“Elio.” the girl whispered “We’re not babies this time.”
The boy bolted up from his sleeping position, looking down at his body.
“Dear God. What the hell is happening?” Elio questioned
“I don’t know Leo, but I hope it’s something good.”
