My mate
Once- I was told-
There was a time,
where it happened.
A mate of mine,
a slight thing;
barely there,
came up to me
and started to talk.
Words spewing
out from their mouth,
like a waterfall.
I didn’t know
what was happening,
were they okay?
I wasn’t so sure.
I asked questions,
they went unheard.
So I tapped them-
it was only lightly,
on the shoulder,
like I was told to do
when this happened.
It didn’t go well.
Hands flew everywhere.
It was a trigger-
broken from their trance,
they didn’t know
where they were,
or who they were.
They looked at me;
a wild look in their eyes.
Who was I in their mind?
I wasn't sure
If I’d like the answer.
I took a step back,
holding my ground;
I drew out my phone-
and held it aloft,
much like a sword.
No connection.
I looked around frantically,
There was no one,
no help to be found,
in this desolate land.
I lay my gaze
back on my friend.
There was something
in their eye, there-
that struck something
deep within me-
I shut my eyes
against their cruel thoughts.
But when I opened them,
I was alone.
