Prologue: A teaser

Jimin has always been on his own. Ever since his parents joined the forces when he was a child, Jimin has been taking care of himself. The times spent alone while his parents were at work, was time spent preparing. It has always been in the cards that he would choose the same path as his parents did, and so that's how from a small age, Jimin came to learn about the ways of the underground world. How to navigate through the harsh environments, what to look out for and what to avoid. All of which would eventually serve as the guidelines for his current career, and though dealing with mafias, drug lords and other organizations, teetering on the wrong side of the law, is all dangerous - it is fun. And opposed to actually being a part of a mafia, drug cartel etc. Jimin finds that being independent, alternating between jobs, choosing who lives and who dies, so to speak, all fuels the feeling of empowerment. The adrenaline that comes with the freedom of not being tied down to anyone or anything. It's empowering.

That's why, as Jimin sits, staring out the toned window at the scenery zooming past, he isn't the least bit concerned. If the new job doesn't meet the criterias, he will just leave. That's the thing with Jimin. He doesn't need anyone, it's anyone that needs him, and he is definitely going to use that to his advantage.

So when the driver announces they have arrived at his destination, he exits the car with no hesitation. His strides are confident as he adjusts his suit jacket, heading towards the entrance of the building. The organization inhabiting it, is someone Jimin has only heard of when working with mafias and especially gangs. A billion dollar jewelry business covering up a well-organized trading market for illegally obtained commodities and goods. Known as 'Crown of Thorns', though whether the name comes from the gemstone studded diadems bought by royals around the world or their control of various, if not most, street gangs serving as their suppliers, no one knows.

The organization in itself isn't a threat, at least not to Jimin, but their network in the underground makes it hard to stay under the radar if he were to end up on their hit list. Not an uncommon situation for him to be in, usually the result of a deal end badly or disagreements unabled to be solved.

He calmly walks up the steps leading up to entry. The suited guards with chest held high, a look of indifference in their eyes as they hold the posture of a soldier, barely even spare him a glance, only holds the door open with a smooth movement for him to enter. The inside of the building is to be expected by a high end firm. Classy, minimalistic, boring. Black leather couches alines the left side of the lobby in symmetrically placed formations surrounding the small glass coffee tables decorated with various magazines. A few floor-plants sulks in the corners of the plain hall in an attempt to bring some type of life to the otherwise dull atmosphere. Opposite the almost dollhouse like setup, stands a receptionists counter. The surface made of white glass material, is almost sparkling from the few sun rays protruding through the clear panorama windows. A young lady occupying the space behind the counter, twitches a polite smile at him. Her figure is hidden behind the tall desk, only making her clothed shoulders visible as they move, reaching for something hidden behind the white stand. Jimin only offers a head nod in return to the practiced gesture, taking notice of the activities as he makes his way to the elevators located at the back wall. He hasn't ever been there before, though his determined aura suggests otherwise, he is simply following the instructions given to him,

The elevator ride is peaceful and undisturbed, only filled with a comfortable silence before a ding resonates the small space, signaling their arrival. The doors slide open and he steps out. There, just on the other side of the elevator stands another woman. Her exterior similar to then one at the reception, with her tied back hair and minimal face expression, she radiates professionalism. With a swift motion she gestures for him to follow her, as she leads him down the hall to a door. On the other side, sat at the end of long birch wood table, is his employer. On his left sits two other men who, at the sound of the door opening, turn their attention to the man standing in the door frame. The conference room is unnecessary spacious for only 4 people and Jimin has no doubts its their way of trying to intimidate him. Unsuccessful, may he add. The rest of the chairs along the table are empty, making his footsteps echo as he starts towards the seat on the other side of the man at the end. No words are exchanged as the men quietly observes him. Jimin briefly glances at them, a silent word of acknowledgement, before letting his gaze wander to the files spread out on the table. Reports and pictures, testimonies and accountancies. Years worth of data. Sitting down he uses the opportunity to study them closer, a certain name repeatedly mentioned. Turning his head slightly to look the CEO in the eyes, he raises a brow.

"Oleander?" He questions no emotion detectable in his voice, simply asking, almost as if to test if he is sure. Because of their status and ability to keep said status for generations, Oleander isn't someone that is challenged often, if ever. So to say Jimin is surprised finding out that the country's most respected mafia is his next target, would be an understatement. Actually he is a bit amused. His amusement only increases, when the man raises his own eyebrow in return. Jimin isn't sure if should be impressed by the mans cockiness or scoff at the down right idiocy. If this man thinks he is anywhere near as powerful as the Oleander mafia, he must be complete fool. While Crown of Thorns might be powerful because of their control of the country's gangs, Oleander is respected, something much more valued in the underground world. To take down such an empire is gonna be hard. It might be the greatest challenge Jimin has ever faced while working this job, but oh does he love a
