The first day of their future; part 1
Crickets chirping as the skies turn blue, then purple, slowly fading into reds, oranges, and yellows as if moving through the color wheel. Slowing moving from the sky towards the city streets, Cape Myers, Florida.
Crickets chirping as the skies turn blue, then purple, slowly fading into reds, oranges, and yellows as if moving through the color wheel. Slowing moving from the sky towards the city streets, Cape Myers, Florida.
A port city on the Southwest of Florida. Cape Myers used to be two different cities before WW2. They later connected and became the birthplace of the first Hunter agency in the state of the United States. The ports are divided by a large body of water.
The streets were quiet except for a few cars. Towering lampposts lining the avenues dimmed as daylight rose. Each post stands on top of a circle with writing and a smaller circle inside it. They are connected to a power bot that conducts as the power line for the city. They follow the ley lines that flow through the cities and states. Every state within the United States’ power line runs through these power boxes. They are connected to a large power grid within the state.
One street in Mangrove Harbor was closed because of a car accident in the area. One lamppost was damaged in the accident. A car rear-ended the lamp in a car chase. The lamp was destroyed. They had to build a whole new lamppost. It took four days. The street remains closed for nearly one week. Today should be the last day. With the new lamp in place. They now had to wait for Alchemist Maintenance to reconnect the lamp to the key box.
There are four hunters guarding the area. Each hunter is dressed in tactical gear. Two of them are more techy gear. Each had a weapon strapped to them. Two have swords. Another had a polearm. And the last two guns. Their job is to ensure that no one goes into the area.
The lamp was flickering on and off. Its crystal core pulsed unevenly before settling to a low glow. A single click sound can be heard. Then a yellow flashing light can be seen on top of the post.
Mangrove Harbor is one piece of a large shopping district within the port city. The Harbor Market is divided into three parts. On either side of the waterfront. The Coral & Gray Harbor; food market & restaurants District, Bastion & Seagrass Harbor; clothes & accessories district, and Irongate & Mangrove Harbor; real estate & Home Inter district.
There is a bridge connecting both districts, but it’s mainly for cars and bikes. Two magic gates on the far ends of the market, connecting both shopping districts for walkways. There is parking around the Harbor. But people prefer to walk.
Some individuals were up early, preparing their stores before the morning rush.
In Coral Harbor, a bakery was open for the morning prep for the morning shift.
In Seagrass Harbor, a secondhand shop was picking up some boxes and categorizing new items.
Back in Mangrove Harbor, a refurbisher was in the back of the store finishing a desk before opening.
A low hum of the engine can be heard moving down the road. A white van with the label Rivergate Maintenance with two bullet points: indoor lighting and outdoor lighting. It pulls into the street, next to the power box on the corner. The engine cut off. A man with a coffee mug in his right hand stands. The man is medium build, brown hair and brown eyes. He is wearing gray overalls with packets.
Opening the double side doors, then pulling a metal tray from the side and grabbing a mat, putting it in his back pocket. Then a paper scroll, putting them in his right side pocket.
Stepping into the van, reaching for a metal rack. In the rack, six pure unrefined quartz in a column of three, row of two. Grabbing one in column two, second row. Placing it in the front left breast pocket. Closing it, then opening the drawer beneath it. Pulling a black pouch. Turning to his right, pulling on a drawer, pulling out a pencil. Placing it in the front right breast pocket. Closing the drawer, pulling the drawer next to it. Pulling out an ink jar and an ink pen. Placing both in the right leg pocket. Stepping back out of the van.
Walking to the power box, pulling out a key and unlocking the panel.
“Okay, let’s check this out,” said the maintenance guy.
Opening the box, looking at the unit. Making a quick scan, checking the alignment. See Crystal C is flashing red.
“Right,” said the maintenance guy.
He looked to his right. See the new lamp, ‘Lamp C’, being held in the air by the crane with the crane handler in waiting.
“Okay.”
He placed his coffee on top of the box, pulling out the key from the panel book. Walking to the crane.
“Morning,” said the maintenance guy.
“Morning,” said the crane guy.
’Ready?” asked the maintenance guy.
“When you are.”
“Okay.”
Moving to the lamp, taking out his ink jar and pen. Redrawing the circle the lamppost stands on. Give the crane man a thumbs up, help to lower the lamp place. Once in place, the crane lets go. Moving out of the street.
“Hm. Good,” said the maintenance guy.
Walking back to the lamp, bending a knee in front of the panel. Taking the same key and opening the panel. Pulling out and placing the mat on the ground, then the paper on top. Take the ink jar and pen out, placing the mat and paper. Opening the ink jar, taking the pen, and drawing a transmutation circle. Then, placing the quartz in the circle. Pulling out the black pouch, opening and shaking out the small piece of quartz.
Claps his hands, rubs them to conduct energy. Placing them each in a circle connected to a large circle. Slowly pulling his hands up as three energy rings appear on his arms, pulling the shattered pieces of quartz to the circle with the new quartz. Mold them together, making a refined quartz, one point on each end.
Once the transmutation is completed, the energy disperses.
“Hm.” With a nod.
Picking up the quartz, moving towards the cylinder. And like a magnet, the quartz moves into the cylinder with ease. Looking up, a white light can now be seen on top of the lamppost. Looking into the panel, the circle relights. He re-rolls the scroll and mat, placing them back into his pocket. Closing the panel and locking it.
Getting up, walking back into the box. Grabbing his coffee, taking a good sip. Looking in and seeing lamppost ‘C’ is reconnecting.
“Hm.” With a nod.
Closing the box and locking it. He looks at his watch and it reads 7:01 am. His favorite bakery doesn’t open until 9:00 am. He walks to the hunter.
“Already, gentlemen. Everything is good to go,” said the maintenance guy.
“Alright, enjoy the rest of your morning,” one of the hunters officer said.
Walking back to his van, grabbing his book. Writing his report for 30 minutes. Once done, he drove to Coral Harbor. It is a 45 minutes drive from Mangrove Harbor. After taking 2o minutes to park the van because of his terrible parking skill.
He parked next to a tree. In that tree, a raven sat watching the man get out of the van. The raven watched with mild curiosity. This raven has a medallion around its neck. It sat for another 5 minutes before opening its wings and taking flight.
As the raven flies, it looks down for a moment, looking at the building. Seeing stores, restaurants, parks, and houses. As it looks, it notices the architecture of each building. There is a heavy influence of Spanish, Mediterranean, and Caribbean - style.
Turning right, it heads into the resident area. Flying down the main street, heading to a white and brown house.
The house has a long staircase leading to the front of the house. In slight view of the raven, is what looks to be a seating area next to the main entry. It looks to continue around to the back of the house.
The raven’s eyes move toward the front of the house. The front lawn has a tall tree with branches pointed up. Surrounding the tree are plants in colors of purple, yellow, and white. The lawn is divided by a driveway.
The raven moves over the driveway through the open walkway straight up to a window in the back of the house.
Landing on the window sill, looking around the room. The raven sees a figure still sleeping in bed. The raven makes a noise. No movement. The raven makes another noise. Still no movement, another noise.
Finally, the figure sat up in bed. A girl with her eye half opened, looking toward the raven.
Her hair is in a bonnet.
After getting up from her bed, having a quick stretch. Then moved to her bathroom, doing her business.
Turning back to the raven, who was sitting on his branch by the desk. Waiting for her.
“Morning Kye. Enjoy your morning flight?” She asked.
Kye makes a noise of agreement, “Yes. I did, Naomi.”
Naomi turns towards her bed, “Glad to hear it,” waves a hand. Her bed is now made.
Naomi Chang, a fifteen-year-old witch.
Naomi moves to her closest to find clothes for the day.
“Did you sleep?” Kye asked.
Coming out of the closet, “I did. And then my alarm arrived,” She changed into a off shoulder hanky hem t-shirt with a long sleeve top with black leather pants., paired with a pair of lace-up boots. She has a silver moon lariat belt in the pants loop, a black steel moon lariat choker wrap necklace, and some silver rings on two each hand.
Kye made a noise.
Going back to the bathroom, she put on a little makeup. Mainly little black liner around her caramel eyes. And she put up her long, wavy hair in a low ponytail.
Coming back out, Naomi walked to her desk. She takes out a notebook and pencil. Flip to a blank page, writing the date. Then, started dream journaling.
“You had a dream?” Kye asked.
“I did. The same dream. For the third time. But now there is a sun,” Naomi said.
“The first dream. I was just in a thick fog, standing on a stone stand in front of a pond. The second time. In the same fog, seeing the same pond. But then I can see stone pillars covered by vines and flowers. This time I look to my left, seeing a sun setting. I looked to my right, seeing only a thick fog. Then, when the sun disappears over the horizon, I wake up.
Kye made a noise of agreement, “Do you think it is trying to tell you something?”
Just then, a knock at the door, a gentleman standing in the doorway.
“Morning.”
“Morning, Ryuk.”
“Breakfast is ready. Come down when you’re ready.” Ryuk said.
“Okay, thanks.”
“Welcome.”
He closes the door.
Naomi got from her desk, going back into her closet for shoes. Black lace-up boots. Stepping back, “let’s go and get some breakfast.”
Naomi walks to the door, opening it, then Kye flies though the open doorway. Naomi walks though right after him, closing the door.
