Prologue

Silver Malone was always one of those girls. One that never really fit in anywhere. One that was always on the outer. But she was also a girl with a secret. A secret that she didn’t like to share too openly. A secret that her family kept relatively well. Until one day they decided they couldn’t deal with her and they sent her away. To Rotelle Academy. In Ravens Point. Miles away – close enough to visit but far enough to be someone else’s problem. And that is exactly what she became when she met him.

Lakyn Cavelle was one of those boys. He was the top of every ‘want to be him’ and ‘want to date him’ list. He had always been attractive and to know that he looked your way was something that set most girl’s hearts fluttering. Still he was never with the IN crowd. He was more of a drifter. He tended to drift to different cliques. But Lakyn also had missions. A new mission every week. To turn one girl who was lonely and desperate into the new IT girl at Rotelle. So when Silver Malone arrived at his school…she was his new mission.

Neither wanted to like the other. Neither needed to want the other. Silver was about as alluring as a bar of soap. And Lakyn was a little too pushy. She didn’t want to like him, she didn’t want to laugh at his jokes or to smile at him when he complimented her. Lakyn didn’t want to need to see her every day. He didn’t want to feel a need to make her laugh or smile just to catch his breath. He didn’t want to like her at all, she wasn’t his type.

Silver Malone seemed like a lost cause.

But Lakyn Cavelle wasn’t a quitter.

“You don’t want me, Lakyn. I’m damaged goods.”

“I like damaged. It means I can fix it.”

“What if you can’t fix this?”

“Will you let me try?”

“Yes.”
