MLB: Tales of Deerling and Cat Noir (Next Gen) Ch1
Chapter 1
Part 1:
Welcome To Paris
"Weeping Willow"
“Ah. Would you look at that! Just as beautiful as I remember.” Marinette said wistfully, looking out the window of their taxi. She could see the Arc de Triomphe from where they were. Memories began flooding back to the fashion designer. She closed her eyes and embraced everything. She was home. Home and excited to show her children what she loved about Paris. “Aren’t you guys excited? We’re going to do so much sightseeing! I’ve always wanted to bring you here, and now we live here. Home……” Marinette loved everything about Paris. Of course, what’s not to love? She never wanted to move away from her home, but she wanted to help her love pursue his career. “Wow! It’s everything I ever imagined it’d be mom! Oh my gosh! Is that the Eiffel Tower?!” Drew Cheng exclaimed from the middle seat of the taxi. Marinette smiled. “I’m so happy to hear you call me mom. You are a part of this family, and we all love you so much.” In Venice, Marinette loved to volunteer at the local orphanage, an aspiration that passed onto her daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth. Oh poor sweet Elizabeth. Marinette wanted nothing more than to give her daughter the whole world. Especially after her whole world was stolen from her so maliciously. Marinette looked over to the far seat of the taxi. There sat her beautiful 14 year old daughter. She had beautiful black hair, with brown highlights, something she got from her father’s side of course. She had a beautiful hourglass figure, something she did not inherit from Marinette. But she did have the same beautiful, mysterious, baby blue eyes, and the sweetest smile imaginable. If only she smiled more. It was no secret that Marinette was in love with her daughter. Marinette had been the only friend to her daughter for so long, she was delighted that Elizabeth had taken such a liking to Drew when she volunteered with her mother at the orphanage. Elizabeth turned from the window and smiled sweetly at her new brother. “That’s right knucklehead. No getting rid of us now. I get to annoy you for forever now.” She placed a hand on top of his head and messed with his hair. A giggle left Drew’s mouth, and made Marinette smile. Before they knew it, they had arrived at the bakery. They each got out of the vehicle and stared at the building. Marinette, being the only one smiling, was giddy with excitement. “Isn’t it perfect?” “Um, mom? Please tell me that I won’t be using a bag of flour as a pillow tonight.” Marinette rolled her eyes at her daughter's witty remark. “Yeah mom, not to sound ungrateful or anything, but I was expecting something a little more, homie.” Marinette laughed sarcastically. “Ha ha. Very funny you two. Ganging up on me already. The bakery is just the cherry on top! The house is above.” Elizabeth smirked. “You mean the cherry on the bottom.” Elizabeth slowly looked up in confusion. “It looks……..small. Is there even enough room for all of us? Are there enough bedrooms for if Lee comes to visit?” Marinette looked at her daughter with solemn eyes, and just sighed. She knew deep down that Lee would not be coming to visit them any time soon, but she wanted her daughter to have every hope. “Yes sweetheart, if your brother comes, we’ll have enough room.” Drew had already run inside to inspect his new, and first official home. "Why does it look like the bakery has been closed for months?" All of the food items and baked goods had been removed from the bakery a while ago when Mr. Dupain, and Mrs. Dupain-Cheng retired and closed up shop. Elizabeth walked in following her mother who was taking everything in. Marinette inhaled slowly. It still smelled like Papa's famous bread. "That's because your grandparents used to own this bakery, but they retired almost a year ago and moved to China. I hated to see the bakery closed, so they gave me the whole building! Including the house. Mind you, it is quite a bit bigger now than it was when I was growing up. I had to renovate it a little, and I added on a few rooms. Seeing as how I was an only child growing up, there was no need for 3 bedrooms." Elizabeth walked through the door in the back, and looked at the stairs leading to what she assumed was the rest of her new home. "You had all of that done? In a year? Now I understand why you were always on the phone, and those sudden business trips to Paris." Elizabeth made air quotes when she said business trips. "Yes, but, I did something else too……" Marinette walked to the other side of the hallway with the stairs, and put her hand on a mysterious door. That door had not been there when Marinette lived there. Marinette placed her hand on the door knob, and turned it suspensefully. "Tada!!" She opened the door, and revealed her new boutique, already stocked and furnished. "I took the liberty of having everything ready by the time we moved in, including my new Paris boutique. Well, everything except the bakery of course. I figured, maybe you two would like to help me run it since it is a family business." Elizabeth had never had a real job before. She had only volunteered at the orphanage where they found her new brother Drew. But she never did any official work. She just played with the kids, and talked to them. "I also decorated your rooms already exactly how I figured you would want! Seeing as how you two are both old enough to have your own styles and sense of taste, I did a little bit of interior design, and bought a few things!" Elizabeth crossed her arms and looked at her overly eager mother. "Ok, so maybe I bought a bunch of things, but your old room was just the same as when your father and I decorated it when you turned 5. And I had to buy stuff for Drew for obvious reasons." Elizabeth rolled her eyes and smiled slightly. "Didn't your old bedroom have a balcony mom?" "Yes it did! Speaking of my old room, I decided that you could take that one, and Drew can have one of the new rooms!" Elizabeth and Drew looked at each other and both silently agreed that their mom was having way too much fun with this. They both started ascending on the stairs anxious to see what their new rooms would look like. Once they arrived at the top of the stairs Marinette spoke up. "To the left is your father's and my room, and Drew's room. And a bathroom of course. To the right is the living room, kitchen, and Elizabeth's new room!" Elizabeth walked to the end of the hallway at the top of the stairs and looked out of the window with the view of Francois Dupont Highschool. "What about Lee's room? Where is that?" Marinette was startled by the question. She grabbed the back of her neck and spoke softly. "Oh, there are 2 beds in Drew's room." Drew took off in the direction of his very own room. Marinette laughed and joined her daughter at the window. They could hear Drew from his bedroom. "Oh my gosh! This is so cool! Thanks mom, I love it!" Marinette smiled and looked at Elizabeth. "You can go check out your room. I'm gonna bring everything inside of the building. I think it might rain soon. As soon as you walk through the door, on the right is a staircase. That'll lead you to your room." Elizabeth watched her mother descend down the stairs. She entered the room and made her way to the stairs. She acknowledged all of the structural changes made, they were quite obvious. She thought of how expensive it must have been to make so many changes, and then to buy so much stuff. Elizabeth had never really thought about the fact that having a famous singer for a dad, and a famous fashion designer for a mom must have left them quite well off financially. She saw a trapdoor at the end of the stairs, and pushed it open, and continued into her room.
Elizabeth's mouth fell open at the sight before her. The walls were white with purple and black accents everywhere. She looked in the corner and saw a little desk with her computer and headphones, as well as all of Elizabeth's study books. There was a poster hanging on the wall of the band Kitty Section, and in the front was the lead singer and guitarist Luka Couffaine. Her dad. She touched the poster lovingly. This was something from her old room. On the other side of the room was a chaise, sitting in the sunlight coming from the window above. Next to the chaise was a trunk, and a full length mirror. Elizabeth opened the trunk and saw on top a brown, leather cover journal. She sighed, not ready to open up that part of herself again and read it. Elizabeth closed the trunk and examined the ladder leading to what she assumed was the balcony. To her surprise there was a loft bed, covered by the quilt that her mother had made for her when she was 11. It was a beautiful white and purple flowery quilt, with very exquisite stitching. Elizabeth analyzed her bed and saw lots and lots of pillows. She laughed quietly. "Mom got that right." Elizabeth layed on her bed, eyes closed, inhaling slowly. It really does feel like a home here. It had the essence of true happiness. Something Elizabeth hadn't felt in a while. Of course, adopting Drew was amazing, but there was still something missing. "Maybe…….I can find it here…...and…...be happy…." She thought to herself. A sweet smile appeared on Elizabeth's face. Marinette peaked her head up from the trapdoor, unbeknownst to her daughter's whereabouts. "Elizabeth? Are you on the balcony?" Elizabeth sat up quickly, hitting her head on the frame of her loft. Rubbing her head she responded. "No, I'm here." Marinette burst with laughter at her terribly clumsy daughter. "Sweetie, I'm gonna go meet an old friend from highschool and bring her back here so you can meet her. Will you and Drew be alright?" "Yeah, we'll be fine. By the way, I love my room! It's everything I wanted." Marinette, hands on her hips, looked around and nodded in agreement. "I did do a good job, didn't I? Well, I'm off. Don't forget to check out your balcony! It has a great view." Marinette turned and began down the stairs, and hollered something back up at Elizabeth. "Oh, the friend I'm meeting has a daughter about your age! Maybe you two can be friends!" Elizabeth heard the door close, and then it was silent. She peared upward and saw another trapdoor. She opened it, and climbed up.
She was standing on the top of the building. Her mom was right. It was a beautiful view. To the left she could see the highschool from earlier. To the right was a park with a water fountain and a merry-go-round. Elizabeth took her hair out of the loose ponytail she always kept it in. Her hair flew in the wind, but it was kept mostly tamed by a headband. She leaned against the railing, and closed her eyes. She felt the warmth of the setting sun on her face. It felt so good. It felt like home. Paris really was wonderful. Elizabeth was not used to the aura, the feeling that this place gave her. She hadn't felt something like this since…….. Elizabeth's thoughts were interrupted by a black figure in the distance. It looked to be flying! No. Not flying. It looked like it was being assisted by some sort of staff, or stick. As it grew closer, she realized that it wasn't an it, it was a he! It was a boy with blonde hair, in a black suit with cat ears, a tail, a mask covering most of his face, and the staff that assisted his…….flying? "Wooooohoooooo! Yeah!" The black cat boy went flying past Elizabeth. He saluted at her before disappearing from sight. Elizabeth rushed to the other side of the balcony to catch another glimpse at this strange boy. Elizabeth was dumbfounded. She had seen many strange things in her life, but nothing like this. What, or who was he? Before Elizabeth had much time to ponder these things, she heard the bakery door open and close. "Elizabeth! Come downstairs! I want you to meet someone!" Elizabeth hurried down to the bakery.
She entered and saw her mother standing next to a woman with reddish, brown hair, and a girl who looked to be about Elizabeth's age. "There you are Elizabeth! I want you to meet my best friend, and your Godmother! Alya Lahiffe, and her daughter Lynn." Alya winked at Elizabeth before grabbing and pulling her into a bear hug. "So you are my famous Goddaughter that I've heard so much about! Marinette! This girl is the spitting image of Luka! But she also looks so much like you! I can't believe you've stayed away for so long! How long has it been? 15 years? I believe the last time I saw you, you were pregnant with this little angel!" Elizabeth managed to pull away from Alya's tight grip. This was the woman that Elizabeth had heard so many things about! "Oh, wow! Mrs. Alya! It's so cool to finally meet you after hearing so many stories about you and my mom! I feel like I practically know you already." Alya laughed and rubbed her eyebrows. "Really? Oh boy Mari, what did you tell this child?" The girl named Lynn stepped forward and shook Elizabeth's hand vigorously. "Hi! I'm Lynn Lahiffe! I go to school right next door. I really hope your mom opens up the bakery again. They sold my favorite chocolate croissants! I'm really excited that you'll be coming to school with me! Everyone in our class is super nice and cool, and we have the best teacher. You'll get along great with everyone. Well, everyone except Tina Bourgeois. She's a brat. Just stick with me and you'll be fine!" Elizabeth's eyes grew wide. Go to school? This was the first she had heard about it. She turned to her mother who was smiling uncomfortably and rubbing her neck. "Sweety, I was planning to tell you, I promise. I just….." Marinette looked at Alya who received the cryptic message. "Well it was amazing to finally meet you Elizabeth, but Lynn has shopping to do before school starts on Monday. Say bye Lynn." Lynn ran over to Elizabeth and hugged her. "Bye Elizabeth! I'll see you on Monday!" Lynn and Alya walked out of the bakery.
"Beth, sit down. We need to talk." She led her daughter to a table with chairs. Marinette removed the cloths covering them and put them aside. Elizabeth played with her fingers, something she did when she was anxious. "Mom, you never said anything about going to school." Marinette sighed. "I know sweetheart. I've been trying to tell you for weeks, it just hasn't been the right moment. But now it is." Marinette looked up. Elizabeth was shaking. She reached across the table and grabbed her daughter's hands, keeping her from twisting her fingers. Elizabeth stopped shaking. Her mother's touch was so soothing. "I know you're scared, I know that. But I can't let you live your life in fear anymore. You'll never be happy if you don't try. I moved us here so you could try. Yes. Bad things are going to happen. But it isn't what happens to us that matters, it's how we handle those bad things that matter. The staff at this school is great, and I know you can make some friends. I can tell you liked Lynn." Marinette paused. A single tear fell from Elizabeth's cheek. Marinette wiped her daughter's face. "Don't you think, it's time to start over, and try again?" Elizabeth looked at her mother. Her mom had taken care of her for years, and taken a lot of time off of work for her. Elizabeth knew that she wanted to get back to what she loved. "Yes mom. It is. I'll try. I want to be happy again. I want to have friends, and I want to live a normal life, without medications. I want to be brave, just like you. I…….I can do it!" Elizabeth made herself laugh, which startled Marinette who was now crying. Her daughter was growing up. She was leaving her old self behind. "I want to go back to school!" Marinette hugged her daughter. She could feel the hope, and happiness radiating from her daughter. She was getting back up from such a dark place. Marinette knew that it came from Luka. Her bravery and tenacity. Her courage to see things through. Elizabeth pulled away. "Wait, mom. It's Friday. School starts on Monday!" Marinette grabbed at her pigtails frantically. "What?! It's THIS Monday?! I thought it was next Monday! We'll have to go shopping tomorrow." Elizabeth laughed at her mother's forgetfulness. Another thing she got from her mother.
That night as Elizabeth lay in bed, she thought to herself. "Can I do it?" Of course she could. It was a new place, new people, new opportunities. It was time for change.
There was a horrific sound. A terrible, evil, sound. Long loud beeps. It sounded like………"My alarm!" Elizabeth sat up quickly and hit her head. It hurts everytime. She slid down the ladder and toppled onto the floor. She began rummaging through her dresser for what she would wear. A few minutes later she stood in front of her mirror and examined the outfit she had chosen. She was wearing white high-waisted cut off jean shorts over a pair of black leggings. Her shirt was black with white and purple stars on the lower portion. A Cheng original. She paired this outfit with her white Converses. As Elizabeth examined herself, she thought to herself. "Something's missing." She reached over to her table and grabbed her hairband and placed it carefully on her head, and put her hair in a loose ponytail like always with a few loose strands by her ears. She remembered at the last minute to take her medicine. She quickly grabbed her phone and backpack and rushed downstairs. Drew was sitting at the island table in the kitchen, eating a bowl of cereal.
"Good morning sleeping beauty. I tried to wake you up, but you were out cold." Drew laughed, spilling milk from his mouth. "Gross! Clean that up before you leave." Elizabeth looked around, searching for her mother. "I'm guessing Mom's downstairs?" "Yeah, she woke up at like, 5 a.m. to get the Baker and the boutique ready. I'd ask you to sit and eat, but your school starts earlier than mine. Perks of being in middle school!" Drew stuck his tongue out to which Elizabeth returned with an eye roll. Elizabeth grabbed the apple sitting at Drew's placemat and rushed out the door. "Bye! See you after school!" "You brat! That was mine!" Elizabeth entered the bakery, and saw her mother already hard at work in the bakery. There was quite a long line for it being so early in the morning. She had heard about it being popular, but was now seeing that for herself. Elizabeth quickly hugged her mother goodbye and ran out the door. Marinette watched as Elizabeth darted past the window outside, and she hoped that everything would be alright.
Elizabeth stood, not being able to move for a moment. There was the entrance to her new highschool. She gulped. "Ok Elizabeth. You can do this." She stood there for a moment longer trying to get her feet to move. "RING!" The sound of the tardy bell went off. "Shoot! I'm late!" Elizabeth ran inside of the school and quickly found her classroom.
She peered around the corner, analyzing and examining everything. There were 15 people in total in the room. In the front seat sat Lynn, the kind socialite that she had met the other day. Lynn had spotted her too. She waved at Elizabeth and patted the seat next to her, beckoning Elizabeth to join her. She had saved a seat for her. Elizabeth walked slowly to her seat, hoping to avoid gaining anyone's attention. But it was too late. As Elizabeth looked around she realized that everyone had her eyes on her, and Elizabeth did not have her eyes on where she was going. She tripped over her own feet, and fell straight on her face. She heard a few people laughing, and buried her face in the floor. Lynn got up quickly and helped her up, and to their seat.
"Are you ok? That was a pretty nasty fall." Elizabeth sat down. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm more embarrassed than anything. I'm used to falling, I'm a little clumsy." Lynn laughed. "That's totally chill, I'll always help you up!" Those words caught Elizabeth off guard. "Anyway, I'm glad you're here. I was starting to think you weren't coming. Try not to make it a thing, being late I mean. Thankfully Mrs. Bustier isn't here yet. "Mrs. Bustier" "Yeah, she's our homeroom and literature teacher this year."
A middle aged woman with bright orange hair walked into the room. She was very tall, and had a very comforting aura about her. Elizabeth already liked her. "Good morning class! I'm sure that most of you know me due to previous years, but in case you've forgotten, I'm Mrs. Bustier. This year, I'll be your homeroom and literature teacher." Mrs. Bustier set down the books and papers she had in her hands. "Now, before I let you guys catch up after your summer break, we have a new student!" Elizabeth's face turned white. She had hoped that none of the teachers would call her out for being new. "Elizabeth, would you please stand up?" Elizabeth slumped in her seat, but Lynn nudged her upward. Elizabeth stood there for a minute not able to get any words out. She snapped out of her daze, and managed to get a few words out. "Um, hi. I'm Elizabeth Cheng." Elizabeth played with her fingers. "Tell us something interesting about yourself Elizabeth." Really Mrs. Bustier? Must you continue? "Um, well, I, uh…….." Elizabeth struggled to find something interesting to share before Mrs. Bustier dismissed her. "You may be seated Elizabeth. I'm sure that everyone here is very excited to get to know you." Elizabeth sat down quietly and put her head on the desk. "Alright everyone, you are free to use the rest of this period to catch up with your friends, or get ready for our other classes. Just don't get too loud, alright?" The class echoed in unison. "Yes ma'am." Mrs. Bustier sat down at her desk, and opened a book. Elizabeth recognized the cover as the book "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen, an English writer. The book was a classic in America. Elizabeth had read it more times that she could remember.
"Cheng? Like, Marinette Cheng? The famous fashion designer?" A voice from behind Elizabeth startled her. She turned around to see a boy with blonde hair, and green eyes. He resembled sunshine. Elizabeth stammered. "Um, y-yeah. That's mom my, I mean- that's my mom." The boy smiled at her. He seemed to understand exactly what she was saying. "I thought so! Her brand is a rival to my father's brand, the Agreste Brand. I'm Adrien by the way, and this is Corbin." Adrien motioned to the boy sitting next to him. "Nice to meet you Elizabeth! I see you've already met Lynn, our class reporter." Lynn's cheeks turned pink at Corbin's comment.
"Class reporter?" "Yeah! She runs the school's news page, she has her own blog, and she's even appeared on her mom's T.V. show a few times!" Elizabeth was not aware that Lynn was an aspiring journalist just like her mother. "Wow Lynn, that's so cool!" "Yeah, well, it's nothing compared to you Elizabeth. Your mom owns a world-famous fashion brand, and now she runs the best bakery in all of Paris!" Elizabeth was not used to receiving such praise for her mother's accomplishments. But it was true, her mother was pretty amazing.
"Ugh! You guys are hovering over her like she's something special. First of all, it's her mom who did all of those things, not her. Second of all, the Cheng Brand is so utterly cheap, I'd never be caught dead wearing something like that, as if! Third of all, her mom's bakery doesn't even offer gluten free options, it's like you're asking for diabetes just walking in that dirty place." Elizabeth looked at the girl who was saying the harsh things. She had blonde hair, and blue eyes, with a face caked with makeup, and a very obvious spray-on tan. She was wearing designer clothes, and carrying a designer bag. Elizabeth assumed that this was the infamous Tina Bourgeois that Lynn had warned her about. Elizabeth mumbled under her breath. "Actually, it does." "What was that?! Speak where I can hear you nerd! If you have something to say to me, then please be so bold to say it!" Elizabeth froze in her seat. Tina had her hands on her hips, nose in the air, and eyes glaring at Elizabeth. The definition of a brat. "N-nothing." She said quietly. "That's what I thought." Tina walked, or rather, sashayed out of the classroom, followed by a shorter girl with a less expensive looking outfit. A lackey. All brats have at least 1 lackey.
"Girl! How could you let Tina beat you like that?! You can't let her win." Elizabeth shrugged. "I just, didn't want to cause any conflict." "Elizabeth, you have to stand up for yourself. It's like my mom always says. 'Bad things happen if good people do nothing'! We are the good people, and Tina, well, she's bad! We cant let her continue to be bad, or other bad things will happen." Elizabeth sighed and laid her head down on the desk. She felt about as small as a mouse at the moment. Adrien looked at Lynn with concerned eyes. Lynn shrugged and mouthed the words, "She's really shy."
A few minutes later, the bell rang, and it was time for their next class. There wasn't a single class period that went by where Tina didn't have something mean to say to Elizabeth. It was happening all over again. This was exactly what Elizabeth was afraid of. It was a little different though. She really enjoyed talking to Lynn, and Corbin and Adrien were pretty nice as well.
After 4 long hours, it was finally time for lunch, and the school was providing them with a meal for the first day of the semester. "So what's Tina's deal anyway? Why is she such a brat?" "Her mom is the mayor of Paris, and very rich, so she acts like an entitled brat." Elizabeth hoped that she never acted entitled just because both of her parents were pretty famous. "Apple, or pear?" "Pear please." The lunch lady placed a pear on Elizabeth's tray. Elizabeth followed closely behind Lynn, who was scanning the cafeteria for a place to sit, far away from Tina. "Ah! There's a table over there that we can sit at!" Lynn grabbed Elizabeth's free hand and pulled her in the direction of the table Lynn had mentioned. Out of the corner of Elizabeth's eye, she could see Tina standing up. Oh boy, what was she up to now. Elizabeth couldn't stand any more at this point.
"Excuse me everyone!" The student's attention all turned to Tina. "We have a new student here at Francois Dupont, and her name is Elizabeth Cheng. Please try to make her feel welcome. You see, she's a little weird, and doesn't have any friends. Her mom is a fashion designer and is a little popular, so if she acts like an entitled brat, just let her do her thing, she doesn't know any better." Everyone turned and looked at Elizabeth. She could hear them whispering and murmuring about her. Elizabeth clenched her tray and looked down at her shoes. Lynn spoke up. "Tina, the only entitled brat here is you. So you can shut your mouth."
Elizabeth began walking towards one of the tables to sit down. Adrien grabbed his tray and followed Elizabeth, hoping that he might be able to make her feel better. She seemed like an amazing girl, and he wanted to become good friends with her. Tina ran over to him.
"Adrien! You should come sit by me and Cheri." "Uh, thanks Tina, but I- '' Before Adrien could finish, Tina had bumped into him, spilling his tray and sending his drink flying forward, right onto Elizabeth. "Eep!" Adrien's pink lemonade had soaked Elizabeth's clothes through. An evil laugh came from Tina's lips. "Ahahahahahaha!! I didn't think it was possible, but Adrien, you made her look worse than before! It's perfect, exactly as planned!" The whole cafeteria filled with the laughter of the students. Elizabeth's eyes filled with tears. She stood in the middle of the cafeteria, still dripping with lemonade. "Exactly as planned? Adrien, what does she mean?" Tina smirked at the golden opportunity before her. "I mean that I told him to do that, you idiot. Are you that stupid that you can't even pick up on the subtlest of hints?" Adrien stood there shocked, with his mouth gaping. "Tina! I would nev-" "Really Adrien? I can't believe it. To think, I actually thought you were nice. I thought you were different. But you're just like Maddie!" Elizabeth was spurting out her words through sobs, as many comprehendable words as she could. "Tina is right, I am stupid!" Elizabeth grabbed her backpack and ran out of the cafeteria.
She found her way to the girls locker room, and fell to her knees, tears falling off of her face, the memories of her elementary years came flooding back to her. "Mom was wrong. I can't do school, I just can't! I'll never fit in. I'll never be happy. I hate it here!" She sat there crying, feeling so betrayed. She had finally opened up to some new people. Then he let her down. "How could you Adrien……"
"How could you do that Tina?! You know I would never do that on purpose!" Adrien grabbed his jacket, and rushed out of the cafeteria. Lynn stayed and confronted Tina.
"Elizabeth! Elizabeth!" Adrien looked everywhere. There was no sign of her. "Oh Elizabeth, where are you?" Adrien thought of all the possible places. "She must be in the girls locker room." Adrien gulped. There was no time for that, he had to go and check on her. He was sure that all of the students were in the cafeteria, so it must be safe to check on her. Adrien took off running in that direction. Elizabeth sat on the floor, feeling numb, tear stains on her cheek, and still sticky from the lemonade. She felt a sudden draft, as if something was fanning her. She looked above and saw a purple butterfly, flying closer and closer to her. "What is-'' The butterfly latched itself onto Elizabeth's headband. Elizabeth put her arms up to shield herself, but it was too late. There was a darkness overtaking her, a darkness like she'd never felt before. Adrien burst into the room. "Elizabeth!" She looked up at him, eyes glossy and empty. She could see Adrien's mouth moving, but she heard only one voice. A deep voice, calling out to her. But, they weren't calling Elizabeth. "Hello Weeping Willow. I am Hawkmoth."
