Ghost of You
Jungkook's eyes opened slightly, revealing the other side of the bed to be empty once again, as it had been for a while. The sadness hit him like a truck and he wanted nothing more than to go back to sleep, but he forced himself to get up anyway.
He stumbled into the kitchen and made a beeline for the coffee pot. He opened the cabinet above it to get a coffee mug, and then paused. Jimin's favourite coffee cup still sat beside his. There was still a light red stain on the side from the tinted lip balm he always wore. It seemed to fade with time and just became another reminder of everything he had lost. He unfroze and reached for his coffee cup, quickly closing the cabinet.
He could remember the nights he spent lying awake, Jimin beside him, telling him he would be just fine. He could remember dancing through their house with him, and he couldn't help but imitate the very dance they always did as if he were dancing with the ghost of him.
Later that day, he started to clean Jimin's stuff out. He worked efficiently, hoping it would get the older male out of his head. All of that hope was crushed when he found the old Zepplin shirt Jimin had worn when he ran away from home. It even still smelled like him; like strawberries and vanilla.
Jungkook remembered comforting him when he had come home. He remembered the way people told them they were too young to know things like love. He remembered promising him he would never love anyone else, and Jimin saying it back. He remembered their dance.
And then he remembered the day Jimin left. How he hadn't even bothered to take his things. He had just packed a small bag, written a note, and left before he came home. He had told Jungkook he was never coming back.
A wave of sadness stronger than the last hit him when he realized that it was true. His lover was never coming back. But instead of grieving as he had been for a while, he shook his head, shoved the shirt into a garbage bag, and carried on.
He would be just fine.
[author's note : i think this is the shortest thing i've ever written 💀 i actually wrote this for an assignment for my eigth grads english class a few years ago but i edited it some and thought it was decent enough to post. i'm thinking about maybe extending this and making it a full story ??? idk yet but let me know what y'all think!!]
