We Overcome
When the darkness slips away, and we look up at the sky;
We see the stars are dancing freely, and shower us with their light.
We never thought this day would come, so many words have been exchanged;
Our heads are now clear from the fog, and we no longer feel any pain.
Even with all the odds placed against us;
We overcame all obstacles.
We picked ourselves up and brushed off the dust;
I’d be damned to deny it was a miracle.
You say “Never give up, always go on”
“Even when times are tough, you must remain strong”;
I say “I’d follow you until the end”
I mean what I say, for you’re my only friend.
Even with all the odds placed against us;
We overcame all obstacles.
We picked ourselves up and brushed off the dust;
I’d be damned to say it was impossible.
We march out on the streets and chant out loud:
“We overcome, we overcome this oppression; we’re sick and tired, we will bring you DOWN!”
Pride fills our souls as we chant our motto: “We overcome, we overcome, WE OVERCOME!”
