Chapter 1

“Miss. Sofia Phoenix.”

“I go by Ms. thank you.” I calmly stated while walking past the assistant. They were a bit unsettled, but continued with what they were doing. The office I walked into was small, but elegantly decorated like the rest of the restaurant. I couldn’t believe I was here, bread and butter was like 1,000 on the menu. Thankfully I wasn’t eating here, just a job interview, could never afford those prices.

“Hello Miss. Phoenix.” There was an older man sitting behind the counter, probably 50 or so. He had a creepy smile on him, or a normal one. Old people creep me out.

“As I told your assistant I go by Ms. thank you.” He unpleasantly chuckled, which turned into a dreadful cough.

“Whatever you say.” He said while catching his breath. I tired to look neutral, but was probably looking more mortified. He wasn’t that old, but I still was creeped out times 100. Once he regained his breath,

“Shall we continue MS. Phoenix.” He exaggerated Ms. which bothered me a lot.

“Of course.” My business face was now on.

“Tell me a bit about yourself.”

‘I am a 18, almost 19 year old girl with decent length brown hair, brown eyes and chocolate colored skin. Nothing really special, but definitely don’t have the ideal life. Have lived in New York my whole life, but never the nice parts. I have 2 little sisters back home who are little angles from heaven and deserve so much better than I can give them. Why I try to get as many jobs as possible to get money for them to live a better life then I have so far.’

“I am just a normal girl who loves the big city. I always enjoy helping people out and volunteer often. I have two amazing little sisters at home who would be so proud of me to get a job at this spectacular establishment.”

“What is your greatest strength?”

’My persistence. I have hit so, and I mean so, many bumps in this road we call life and have felt like giving up at almost all of them, but I have kept going no matter what. If not for me, but for my sisters.′

“My persistence. I always strive to make things the best I can be. If it takes a little longer than planned, that doesn’t stop me from continuing until the job is done.”

“What is a weakness of yours?”

’The fact that I am the most annoying person on earth, but at work can put on the most believable kind person act you can imagine. I am blunt, sarcastic, rude and a whole lot of other things I rather not mention even if this is just in my head.′

“My seriousness. I can get to serious sometimes and forget to have a little fun. While I am sure it’s good for you to have a serious worker, it can be bad for me to forget to enjoy myself at times.”

“Tell me about an achievement you are really proud of.”

‘The fact that I was able to overcome my abusive criminal dad, neglectful mother and raise me sisters to be good people in this world.’

“I was really proud when I got my first job as a lifeguard at my local pool.”

“Why are you interested in this job?”

’Because I desperately need the money to keep me and my sisters afloat.′

“Because I have always admired prestigious restaurants like these with there streamlined style to get there food to there customers fast, while keeping the food refined and elegant. I would love to be apart of the team who are able to keep the flow going as a waitress here.”

“Ms. Phoenix don’t you think your answers to the questions are a bit - he pondered for the right word - inflated.” He had a smile on his face that looked like he thought he was catching me in the act.

“Sir, don’t you think my credentials are absolutely immaculate. Especially for someone my age.”

“I think your bluffing.”

“I think my work stands for it’s self.” He pondered for a bit more. My credentials were flawless. I had worked a thousand jobs and did amazing in everyone. He had to see that. I needed this job.

“Ok, you got the job.” My lips curved upward only slightly. My full smile was reserved for my sisters only.
