Chapter 1

Reader’s POV

The sky roared, dropping its tears on the city as cars, trucks, all sorts of vehicles along with people rushed from one end of the street to the other to get to their desired destination. Jungkook sat in his office, typing away on his laptop that he got a gift from his fiancé. The loud tapping sounds resonated throughout the small space connected to a bigger one.

Clicking the enter button, Jungkook sighed loudly cracking his fingers which were all tight and tensed from the rough movements. He did the same with his neck and stood up from his seat. He logged out of his laptop and closed, walking out of the small office.

He walked down the hall and entered the cafeteria inside the mass building.

As he stepped inside, he smiled at his colleague, who was the first person to come into his sight.

‘finally out of your cocoon, huh?’ the man jokingly asked. Jungkook chuckled, playfully nudging his shoulder. ‘shut up Sam. I had to finish the presentation slides as soon as possible.’ He said walking inside, Sam following behind.

‘Why can’t the boss do it? I mean, isn’t he the one presenting?’ Sam asked, calmly walking along with him, hands in his pocket. Jungkook shook his head. ‘he already has too much on his plate. I just took a little from it. Besides it’s my job as his secretary.’ Jungkook clarified. ‘exactly. His secretary. So you’re supposed to manage his schedules. Not do his works.’ Sam uttered, annoyance clear in his voice.

Jungkook gave his colleague a frown. ‘that’s half of what I do, Sam. I also have to participate in his works. I’m literally his side-kick, giving my hand to him in his works. He may be the boss, but that doesn’t mean that he has to do everything alone. Sometimes, it’s nice to have someone assisting you.’ Jungkook defended his boss, leaving no room for Sam to utter another single word.

Sam huffed and walked away from Jungkook. Jungkook stared at Sam’s back, feeling confused about his behavior, even though he experienced it daily. He didn’t understand what was Sam’s problem with their boss. All he knows is that, his boss. Mr. Kim Namjoon, is the kindest, the most considerate person he’s ever met. Namjoon’s the reason Jungkook is continuing his journey in this job. He’s the reason Jungkook gets more and more motivated each passing day.

Shaking his head for the second time, Jungkook turned away and went towards the counter. As soon as he stopped in front of it, the lady in front of the counter gave him a big smile. ‘how’s your day going, Jungkook?’ she asked, already filling a tray full of chicken salad, with apples on the side. She handed the tray to him after placing a glass of water on the circular space on it.

‘it’s great so far, just a bit more to be done. Not that hard though.’ He said, returning her smile. the lady nodded her head in acknowledgment. ‘I see. Hope you finish it successfully. Don’t worry, the boss is gonna love your work. He always does. And so do we’ she chuckled. Jungkook’s small laugh came along. ‘thank you Miss Morgan’ he said. Miss Morgan pointed a finger gun at him, clicking her tongue while winking. ‘no prob dear. Now, off you go. gotta have a comfortable lunch before rushing off.’ Jungkook nodded and walked away.

He looked around, searching for a table without many people near. When he spotted one, a relieved sigh left him as he made his way to it. Sitting down, he made himself comfortable and started digging in. He was munching on a chunk of chicken when a sudden thunder startled him. He turned his head to the glass window next to him, cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk, and stared at the grey sky outside. ‘it still hasn’t stopped raining.’ He mumbled to no one. Giving one last look outside, he went back to eating.

He was almost finished when the phone on the table started ringing. He felt the phone vibrate through the wooden table. Dusting his hands off, he peered over the screen to check who was calling as he grabbed the phone. Once he saw the name, his eyes widened, quickly swallowing what was left in his mouth and answered the call. ‘yes sir?!’ his voice came out a bit high-pitched.

Jungkook heard a deep chuckle from the other side. ‘no need to get so worked up Jungkook. Relax and have your lunch. I just called to tell you to meet me in my office, AFTER finishing your lunch. But don’t rush! Or you might choke.’ Namjoon calmly spoke. Jungkook unconsciously nodded. But when he realized that Namjoon can’t see him nod, he spewed his words out hastily. ‘ok sir! Yes, sir!’ once again, he heard Namjoon chuckle. ‘this kid. OK then, eat your lunch. I’ll be waiting for you.’ and then the call was cut.

Jungkook slowly pulled the phone away and stared at it absent-mindedly. His heart was literally hammering against his chest like it wants to break free. He came out of his trance, released a shuddering breath as he put the phone in his pocket. He lightly tapped his fist on his chest and huffed. ‘why do I always get nervous when I speak to him? Seriously Jungkook! You’ve been working for Luis Vuitton for the past three years! And this is how you still behave?! Like a nervous teen girl?! Tch!’ he scolded himself and gulped down the glass of water before rushing off to Namjoon’s office.
