September

trees, once a deep green, begin to fall and change. their delicate stems blushing a bright orange, as if embarrassed at their newfound switch.

the streets were littered with leaves, each one intricately decorated with swirls of colour, and scattered across the busy roads.

young, innocent children. dressed sweetly in their warm and cosy outfits, with mittens and ear muffs that they were forced upon them via their concerned mothers. who now sit, patiently in the warmth. a coffee in hand, resting delicately near to the roaring fireplace.

the town of Alnwick was one of those towns that just seem to radiate a warmth, a deep orange glow that seems to seep through the air. comforting those who travel through, as if the town itself was a large blanket. that hugged and supported all of those within it.

it was peaceful, gentle and a little bit dull. a high school, a coffee shop and a variety of slightly strange and mismatched shops, each selling a strange selection of antique mirrors or decorations.

for those who were young in the town, it seemed achingly boring to live within a small autumnal bubble. they resided gently, living in a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business. a teenagers nightmare, that is, a normal teenagers nightmare.

september loomed delicately over the town, with children and their parents beginning to panic. stationary was nowhere to be seen, neither were bags and shoes. it had all been cleared weeks before and now left those who had been in clear denial of school stranded without the equipment they needed.

as the light nights faded black and the breeze began to pick up to a slight frosted chill, the town huddled indoor. their pretty red brick homes sat prettily upon the roadside, as if doll houses in a small toy town. for alnwick had that impression on many, it’s perfect little streets and friendly townsmen made a lasting impression on all. and although that would continue through the change in seasons, a slight bittersweet edge tainted the air that last august night. as the sunset creeped towards the ground, it was well acknowledged that summer was finally over..

and that school had begun.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
