A Scaly Admirer

With the bell, math class ended. Both viper and human students packed up their belongings and headed out for home. This was the end of a day for a high school student at Kiltea High. After a long war, the group of Xcom had finally defeated Advent and freed mankind from their rule. But they also managed to get the support of the vipers. So now the humans and vipers live in peace, however we are getting off track.

Xaila was now slithering away from Kiltea High humming a happy tune and thinking of one thing. The boy named Scott. She was in love with the boy, and wanted to become more than friends with him. As she thought all of this, Xaila ran into him, knocking him down.

"Ooofff! I'm sorry. I should have watched where I was going Xaila." Scott said as he picked up his glasses and things off the street.

Xaila was freaking out inside as to the mistake she just made. "N-no i-i-it wasssss my fau-lt." She painfully stuttered out. She offered her hand to help him get up. He took it and was pulled up. His hand felt so soft in her's like it was meant to be there. Her breath quickened.

"Are you OK?" Scott asked with concern as she was breathing faster than normal.

"I'm okay. Let'ssssss go okay?" Xaila quickly got out. Scott nodded and they started to walk back to their houses. Xaila was trying to calm down, but him being right there was not helping.

After a ten minute walk they had arrived at a point that branched out. One way went to Scott's home, while the other went to Xaila's nest.

"See you tomorrow Xaila. Be careful, OK?" Scott said with a smile and waved as he left. Xaila wanted to stop him there and tell him how she felt, but she lacked the will power. She sighed and just went home.

Scott kept on walking for another 5 minutes until he came up to his home. His house was fairly normal. It had two stories and a metallic white paint job on it. It was nothing to fancy, but to Scott it was home. He walked up the steps and pulled out his keys and proceeded to put the key in and turn the knob. He closed the door behind him and took a deep breath.

"I'm home!" Scott announced as he was living with his mother still. From the kitchen a voice responded.

"Welcome home Scotty." It was his mom. She was always there for him when he needed it. "Supper is in the microwave for you."

"What is it?" Scott asked. As he took off his shoes and pack.

"Just some meatloaf and mashed potatoes." She answered. Scott then went into the kitchen and pushed the buttons so it would cook for a minute. "How was school?" Scott's mom asked.

"Easy as always." Scott declared with a grin as he went in the fridge to pull out a soda. "I feel something is not right with Xaila however." Scott finished with concern plastered on his face.

"Oh it sounds like you got a crush on her mmmmmmm?" Scott's mom said as she nudged his side with her elbow.

"Mommmmmm! I don't think she likes me like that. All that happened was that I ran into her, fell down and walked back home, and then she started to breathe erratically." Scott described. His mom nodded and then looked at him with a 'really' look.

"You just wait and see. She likes you. I just know it." His mom said as she then went upstairs to go to bed early.

"Whatever you say mom. Sleep well."

"You too." She responded back.

The microwave had long since rung. Scott took out a fork and dug into the mash and meatloaf. After a minute or two, he cleaned up the dish and headed down to the basement he had a job to do.

You see Scott owns a snake. Funny isn't it. He flicked on the light as he entered the room. "Wakey wakey." Scott said. He could hear telltale hisses of annoyances coming from his king cobra. "Don't give me sass Luci." He shot back. It seemed to always do the job as Luci went silent. He opened the mini fridge where he kept food for her. He pulled out a large rat and closed the fridge door. He then walked over to her enclosure to see her awake and what he hopes is happy. He opens her enclosure and puts the rat down to see Luci stalking it like prey and then strikes. Scott has always had a soft side for snakes. As Luci swallowed down the large rodent, Scott petted her hood. He had gloves on incase she was grumpy. She was not this time and rubbed her head back into his hand giving a light hiss of happiness.

"I missed you girl. You missed me too?" He asked knowing full well that she would not give an answer back. He removed his hand from her and closed the enclosure much to the dismay of Luci as she wanted more petting time. "I know. I know, but I have to go to bed soon. Maybe in the morning, ey? Does that sound good to you?" She responded by swaying left to right. He took that as a yes. She then curled up and went to sleep. "Goodnight Luci." Scott whispered as he turned off the lights and closed the door. He headed upstairs and then to his bedroom.

He changed into sleeping attire and then went to his bed to go to sleep. But something kept on bugging him. 'Why did Xaila act like that?' He let it go and closed his eyes to fall to sleep.

Xaila was beating herself inside for not taking that step, but what was done is done. Maybe she should try next time. She was thinking about all of this when she finally came up to her house, which is a three story wooden house. There was a ramp leading up to the double door. Xaila slithered up to the large door and entered. "I'm back!" She hissed. Soon she was trampled by a bunch of young vipers. These are Xaila's brothers and sisters.

"YAY SSSSISSSS ISSSS BACK!!!!!" The little vipers screamed in unison as they attempted to climb Xaila who was now giggling at the little ones' behavior. They tried to slither all over her body, but got only to her tail. Xaila was giggling and was pretending to push them off. After a bit of horsing around she picked them up and put them down much to their dismay.

"I love you guys." Xaila said as she laughed. Her siblings then slithered off to their rooms. Xaila then took off her pack and put it near the door. She then went to the kitchen to see her father and mother making dinner. "Hey mom, hey dad."

"Welcome back ssssweety." Xaila's mom said with a loving smile.

"Dinner sssshould be done in a couple of hours." Xaila's father hissed as his tongue flicked out. Xaila nodded and then started to make a leave before being stopped. "Did you do it yet?" Her father asked Xaila.

"What do you mean?" Xaila was confused by the out of the blue question.

"Did you finally admit your feelings?" Xaila's father said as he wore a grin. Xaila then became flustered.

"DADDDDD!" Xaila said as she was very embarrassed. Her father just laughed it off. "How did you find out?!"

"Oh come on now Xaila. The last time we went with you to the park for a walk and we so happened to come across Scott, you freaked out and would not stop stuttering." Xaila's father recalled. Xaila just stood there embarrassed and didn't know what to say. Xaila's mother grabbed the hood of her husband, which made him hiss in pain. "Okay! Okay! I'm sorry! I will drop it!" Her mother then released her grip from his hood.

"Don't mind him. In all seriousness, It would be nice having a human relation in the family. Just remember to remain calm. It will all come out at the right time." Xaila's mother said as she hugged Xaila. Xaila nodded and then dismissed herself. She went to her room and flicked on the lights.

After a bit Xaila's parents came into her room to ask if she was going to eat dinner. She said she would not and they nodded and wished her a good night's sleep.
