Not what I expected

"The first one was awesome. I think author needed to write something different, gain some more experience and than get back to book two"

Mixed feeling about this one

"Fighting all first book for her freedom and giving up so simply in the second one confuses me. It doesn't make any sense. I was disappointed reading how Xavier had his way all along again. There could be so many new ways to turn the events more interesting. Every new chapter I read I hoped for some intriguing ending of it. But nothing came. It felt like the author didn't know how to proceed with the plot. It is understandable that this was just her second book for all times but why such a rush? The writing style is quite good if it weren't for the mistakes."

Just like Katherine, the book needs some TLC

"WARNING: SPOILERS I was hoping the second book would take the protagonist, Katherine, down a different path in life with a new man. Even if the new man has ties to Xavier's syndicate, it would have made a better story. Why the author brought back Xavier, I honestly have no clue. He is not necessary. He is a weak character with no depth. It’s like she is trying to rewrite 50 Shades of Gray with a sadistic Mr. Gray. The abuse that he inflicted in the first book does not make for a redeemable character. Bringing him back as the male lead weakens the series and turns it into abuse porn. I was hoping the second book would provide Katherine with an opportunity for healing and growth. Instead, by having her willingly go back to living with and obeying Xavier diminishes her character from a strong protagonist with depth at the beginning of the series to a dull lead with no will or care to rise above being with an abusive boyfriend. Further, why doesn't Katherine have a single conversation with her widowed Father? It is a gaping plot hole. He even asked her to call him every few days to ensure she was safe in London. Why he would just never check-in on her? It's makes no sense to have zero conversations with her father. Finally, the spelling and grammar mistakes are rampant throughout both books. I think the author should re-evaluate the plot for the second book and direction for the entire series. My suggestion would be to rewrite the second book. Keep Xavier dead. Bring a new man into her life who is not an abusive monster come into her life but who wants to meet the woman that killed a Mafia Boss. I cannot get behind a male lead who physically broke their girlfriends fingers, wrist, and leg in a fit of rage and cheer for them to be with the female protagonist. A bullet to the sternum does not make an abusive boyfriend better, therapy does, and based on the authors writing, the character, Xavier wouldn’t go. So it again, makes no sense to bring an irredeemable character back from the dead."
