Chapter 1: I killed a family?
"Congrats officer Lilly" Michel, the superintendent, said. Still no promotion, I thought. This job is a killer, metaphorically not literally.
I have always loved my job but after a while it gets, I don't know.... easy? I have been doing this job for almost 5 years now and I have never gotten a case I couldn't solve, so why don't they give me the 'Night-Killer' case? The last detective to get assigned that case ended up dead, so this case is now of higher security and importance.
"Come on Michel, just give me the case". I'm on the verge of getting on my knees and begging for it. "You know I can't" Michel argues back, "not after what happened to Suzy". He was right I didn't want to end up dead like Suzy, but this was my chance to prove myself as a detective. Michael said, "I'll think about it, for now go home and get some sleep".
"Yeah, I'll try" I answered back.
Home, that's all the way in Australia exactly 9,420 miles from London. My pathetic excuse of an ex-boyfriend is the reason I moved out here in the first place, but that was a mistake.
I now live alone in this apartment that is way too expensive.
As I go to bed, I couldn't help but think about the murderer I arrested today. She was so young, only thirteen and had murdered her whole family. There were signs of her being abused, but she had no remorse or empathy for what she had done, it was very unhinged. The first thing she did was turn on the stove, she then sneaked into her parent's room and slit their throats in their sleep, before doing the same to her ten-year-old sister and her two-year-old brother. The stove sets on fire and she then escapes.
As I woke the next day, I felt a liquid run down my arm, weird, maybe sweat I thought. I took a shower and after turning on the television, where the news anchor gives the daily report. "The 'Night-Killer' strikes again, this time a family of 4, a mother, father and two children both under the ages of 10, all dead last night. If anyone knows any information about this killer contact the number appearing on screen now." That poor family, the 'Night-Killer' must be stopped and arrested, I thought.
As I arrived at work, Michel seemed to be in a panic. "You want the case, then you can have it" Michel hands me the files and leaves.
