Chapter 1

One day, Lizzie was in the car with her family driving to their new house. She looked out the window as the air flowed her hair. “ Ah, AH CHOO!!!!! “ Lizzie sneezed all over her sister. “ Oh! Sorry Chiara… “ Lizzie said down. Chiara looked at her sarcastically with her arms in the air. “ Ugh! You’re disgusting. “ Chiara said wiping herself. “ Now now Chiara, it’s not lizzie’s fault she has uncontrollable allergies. “ Their mother said. “ Uncontrollable? Really? Ha, she couldn’t sneeze even if she wanted to! “ Chiara said. Lizzie just looked at the window. “ Are we their yet mommy? “ Lizzies little brother Wren asked. “ Almost dear. “ Mother said. Lizzie looked closer at the window and they passed a sign that said, “ CAUTION! DO NOT GO THIS WAY, TURN BACK NOW!!!! “ Lizzie was wondering what that meant. “ Uh, mother? “ She said. “ Yes dear? “ Her mother said. Lizzie gulped. “ Um, there was a sign telling us not to go here. “ Lizzie said worried. “ Nonsense! Don’t be so silly. It’s probably just fake. “ Mother said. “ Uh, okay… “ Lizzie said. “ Yeah, she’s probably just dreaming in that pea sized brain of hers. “ Chiara said laughing. Her father sighed. “ Chiara enough. “ Father said. Chiara rolled her eyes. “ Whatever. “ She said. “ Oh! I think we’re here! “ Mother said. They pulled up to a giant house with a front and back yard and it looked like it was from the 90’s. “ This dump better have wifi or I swear. “ Chiara said. “ Actually, I don’t think it’s that much of a dump..I think it’s a very beautiful house and I think we’ll have a fun time living here. “ Lizzie said. Chiara just rolled her eyes. “ I agree Lizzie! “ Mother said. They all got out of the car. Wren grabbed Chiara’s hand. “ This place is really big Kira…. “ Wren said. Chiara looked at him strangely. “ It’s Chiara, not Kira. Also let go! “ Chiara said in a snappy voice. She let go of Wren’s hand. Wren looked down sad. “ Chiara he’s 3, try being a little nicer okay? “ Her father said. “ WHATEVER! “ Chiara yelled. Wren looked at Lizzie. “ Lizzie, why is Shiara so mean.? “ He asked. “ Chiara Wren, and I think it’s just because she wasn’t set the best example when she was younger. “ Lizzie said. Wren stood there with silence and confusion. “ Huh? “ He asked. “ Hm, never mind. You’re young, you wouldn’t understand. “ Lizzie said putting her hand on Wren’s shoulder. “ What does young mean? “ Wren said. Lizzie sighed. “ You’ve got a lot to catch up on kiddo. “ Lizzie said. “ Come on, let’s go see the inside. “ Their father said. “ Double doors, not too bad I guess.. “ Chiara said. “ Yes. “ Their mother said. Wren shook his arms. “ Mother I’m cold.. “ He said. “ Okay dear, come on. “ Their mother said grabbing Wren’s hand. Everybody walked inside except Lizzie, she looked to her right. She heard water streaming and air flowing. “ Come on Lizzie! “ Her mother said. “ Oh! Right, coming. “ She said going inside. “ Wow! It’s so big. “ Lizzie said. “ Yeah, and has so much old fashioned wood that it’s hurting my eyes. “ Chiara said. “ Chiara please stop, it’s a beautiful house. “ Their father said. “ Where is my bedroom mother? “ Lizzie asked. “ I think it’s over here, come. “ Mother said. Lizzie followed her mother upstairs and then they went inside a room. “ Alright, how do you like this one? “ Mother asked. Lizzie looked inside the room. It had a canopy bed with an old fashioned quilt. There was a maroon carpet and it had many wall trimmings, had a balcony too. “ I love it! “ Lizzie said. Her mother smiled. “ Great, I’m going to go fix up dinner. “ Her mother said as she left the room. Lizzie looked around her room. She decided to look out the balcony. She leaned over and saw her backyard and a wooden fence all around it. “ I’m gonna go see what’s down there. “ She said. Lizzie walked down the stairs. “ Where are you going Lizzie? “ Wren asked. “ I’m just checking out the backyard. “ She said. “ Can I come too? “ Wren said. “ Sorry no, how about you go sit at the table and get ready for dinner? “ Lizzie said. “ Okay! “ Wren said as he ran to the dining room. Lizzie sighed and went outside. She stepped into bright green grass that touched her feet. She look at the fence in front of her. She heard water flowing again. She walked toward it. “ I wonder if I have any neighbors. “ Lizzie said to herself. She saw the gap in the fence. She looked through it. She heard the sound of the water flowing again getting louder and louder. Fog covered up. “ Hello? “ Lizzie said. She got no answer. The fog suddenly cleared. Then, she saw a lady. Wearing a bright red dress, staring at Lizzie. “ Hi? Are you my new neighbor? “ Lizzie asked. The woman didn’t respond. Then suddenly she vanished right through the fog. Lizzie was confused. She went back inside to have dinner. “ Why we’re you out there? “ Her father asked as soon as she went in. “ Uh, just checking it out. “ Lizzie said. “ Okay then, well come on it’s time for dinner. “ Her father replied. Lizzie followed her father into the dining room. “ Wow the Brats finally here. “ Chiara said. “ Leave her alone Chi. “ Her mother said. Chiara rolled her eyes. Lizzie sat down and took her fork. She dug it into the lasagna. “ Would you like a drink dear? “ Her mother asked. “ Yes. “ Lizzie said. Her mother went to the fridge and grabbed some water with a lime in it. “ Sooooo….How long are we gonna be living here? “ Chiara asked. “ Chiara, just enjoy the house okay? “ Father said. “ Okay. “ She said. Lizzie stopped chewing. “ I met our new neighbor today. “ She said. “ That’s cool, what’s their name? “ Mother asked. “ I don’t know, she didn’t speak… “ Lizzie said. Mother was confused. “ Explain more please. “ She said. “ Well, she just stood there—Staring at me creepily. “ Lizzie said. “ Perhaps she’s mute. “ Mother said. “ No, I don’t think that’s the case. I think….I think this has something to do with the sign.. “ Lizzie stated. Mother sighed. “ Lizzie, I told you that was fake. “ She said. “ Uh, y’know what. You’re right. Maybe I’m overreacting, probably just dreaming. “ Lizzie said. “ Exactly! “ Mother said. “ Alright, time for bed kid’s. “ Father said “ Awww! “ Wren said upset. “ Just because we moved doesn’t mean your free from school. “ Father said. “ WHAT? No! “ Chiara yelled. “ No. go to bed. “ He said. “ Ugh! “ Chiara said stomping up the stairs. Lizzie got up and placed her dirty dish inside the sink. She went upstairs. She went inside her room. She changed to her pj’s and went to bed. A couple hours later….THUD! Lizzie woke up that the loud noise startled her. She slowly opened her eyes. She got up and saw a mouse sitting right by her bedroom door. “ Rats, really? “ Lizzie groaned. She chased the rat downstairs. “ Come back here!! “ Lizzie tripped on the stairs. She quickly got back up and the rat was gone. “ What? “ She said. Lizzie looked around to find the rat. Then, she saw the rat. Standing next to the backyard door. Creeped open. The rat ran out. “ How did that get open.? “ Lizzie said. She slowly followed the rat outside. She stepped into the perfectly trimmed, wet, super green grass. She felt it brushing in her bare feet. The fog made a whooshing sound. She stared at the gate. Lizzie gulped and went towards it. “ Hello??? Are you still here? “ Lizzie asked. She peeked through the gap of the fence. She saw something she thought she’d never see.
