5:00 am.
I roll over my bed as I shut down my alarm. A sigh escapes my mouth before I tuck myself in my blankets, going back to Morphe's arms. So warm and comfortable. I don't want to wake up, staying in this very comfortable bed all day long sounds like an awesome plan.
5:30 am.
Guess I have to get up and get ready for college. I kick the blankets away from me and I instantly regret it. I'm hit by a wave of cold that chills my bones. I pull the blankets over me, my body rejoicing the reunion with warmth as I smile.
No. Get up Amber or you'll fall asleep again and you'll be late for your classes.
I get up with a groan, my body begging me to come back to our lover's embrace as I wear a wool jacket to keep the cold away. A yawn escapes my lips as I go straight to the bathroom. After doing my business I look at my reflection in the mirror; Yuck. I look like a raccoon with those dark circles and disheveled hair. Wait... That might be an insult to raccoons since they're actually cute. Kind of.
Making my way to the kitchen, I'm greeted by my little furry friend. Cookie. A Ragamuffin cat breed. I pick her up and pat her while giving a bunch of kisses. Her fur is so soft and smooth.
After feeding her and replacing her water, it's time for me to eat breakfast. Some hot chocolate with homemade chocolate chip cookies. As I eat, I check my e-mails and find one in my inbox. It's from the Student Council. They're throwing a party tonight to celebrate the end of the semester. I'll probably go with my friends Alex, Lys, and Shaz. Real partygoers. After enjoying my breakfast, I return to the bathroom to do my morning routine and get ready for the day.
5:50 am.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I turn around satisfied with my looks. Blue jeans, a white sweater, and black combat boots. Some mascara and nude lipstick. Simple and casual.
I throw my bag over my shoulders, plug my earphones and play some music to get hyped. I exit the house, gently closing the door, and take a deep breath of fresh air. Synchronizing my steps to the rhythm of the music, I go to the bus station and wait for mine to arrive. A few minutes later, I grab a seat, set my bag on my thighs, and rest my head against the window, closing my eyes. I concentrate on the music to avoid hearing other people's conversations. How annoying it is sometimes to have all of your senses heightened.
One hour later, I hear the driver screaming at the last stop. I take my things and go downstairs towards the metro station. As usual, it's crowded.
8 am.
Finally arrived to college. I have about 25 minutes left before the class starts. I look around for my friend and spot them in the backyard smoking cigarettes. Like every morning. I trot towards them, a smile on my lips, waving my hand.
"Heelloo !"
"Hey, Amber! What's up?"
"I'm good, what about you guys?" I ask as I sit on the bench with my bags on the table.
Shaz points his finger at me, exhaling the smoke from his cigarette.
"Have you seen the Student Council email?"
"I did. Are you going, guys?"
"Hell yeah! " Replied Lyss.
"As long as one of you is sober enough to drive, I'll go. Because I plan on getting wasted."
I turn to Alex and let out a small laugh.
"Don't worry, I'm not planning on drinking tonight. I'll drive."
"Yeah well, you're a real nut on the road Amber. I'm still too young to die."
"Come on! I promise I won't exceed the speed limit." I give Alex my puppy eyes, and she cracks a smile and agrees on coming.
We head to our amphitheater. The hallways and stairs are filled with students and different smells. Once arrived at our designed classroom, we greet the teacher and head to the middle row. I pull out a notebook and a pen while Alex pulls out her gaming laptop. Shaz and Lys are in the last row. I'm not a very attentive student, I tend to fall asleep a lot in classes. Thanks to my sleeping disorder.
After spending the day between lessons, lunch break eating tacos, it was finally time to go home. As usual, 3 hours later, I find myself in the kitchen talking to my mom. She keeps ranting about her day and how her boss keeps hitting on her. This is getting on my nerves. I don't blame him tho, my mom is undeniably beautiful with her black hair cut short and her forest-green eyes. But damn it, this dude never gives up.
"By the way mom, I'll be going to a party tonight with some friends."
"What party?"
"Student council organized one to celebrate the end of the semester."
"Alright sweetheart, take care and don't drink too much."
"Don't worry, I won't. I'm the one driving tonight.'
"Okay, hon. Oh and, there have been several cases of disappearances lately. Don't leave your friends and always stay on your guard."
I nod, as she kisses me on the cheek before going to the living room and settling down in front of her TV show. Meanwhile, I go up to my room and think about what she said.
I've heard about those disappearances. Most of them were women and started 4 months ago. The police didn't find the culprits yet and have no lead.
After taking a long shower, I sit on my bed with a towel around my chest, scrolling down social media and chat with few friends.
Putting on some music, I throw my phone on the bed and walk over to my closet and dig into my dresses. I decide to wear a mid-length and off the shoulders black dress. Accompanied by a simple silver necklace and matching earrings. It's perfect. This color really stands out on me. Maybe it's because of the natural silver length and tips of my hair. People don't believe me when I tell them I was born like this and I don't dye my hair. None of my business. They can believe what they want. I draw a simple line of eyeliner and end my makeup with matte red lipstick. I look at my reflection in the mirror and damn, I'm hot. And looks taller with my ankle strap heels. My phone starts ringing, and I pick it up.
"Hey Shaz. Alright, I'm coming."
I pick up my small pouch, put a long coat over my shoulders and quickly put on some floral perfume and go downstairs. I kiss my mom goodbye despite her protest about my "provocative dress". I pay no mind to her yelling, as I get into my friend's car.
"Holy shit Amber, you're absolutely gorgeous." Said Shaz upon seeing me.
"Thanks, you're not so bad yourself buddy."
Thirty minutes later we finally arrived at the party with Lys and Alex.
"Let's go party bitches !" Yelled Shaz while heading straight for the dancefloor. Meanwhile, Alex is looking for her crush and plans to ask her out tonight. I sure hope everything will go well. She deserves to be valued and happy.
I go towards the large buffet, squeezing between people with feline grace as I make my way towards it. I grab a burger and look around the room.
Subdued lights illuminate the room, I can see perfectly even in the dark. Another perk of having heightened senses. The decoration was quite ordinary, streamers here and there, bouquets of fake flowers, black, white, and gold-colored ballons.
As I turn to grab another snack, a feeling of intense fear seizes me. It's as if, behind me, is a monstrous creature made of darkness surrounding me. My lungs contract and my breathing quicken. A faint smell of rotting comes to my nostrils and I abruptly turn around, looking around the room for someone or something. I saw two silhouettes going towards the great hall. I was going to follow them. Yes, I know. Terrible idea. I feel like I'm the crazy chick in horror movies about to go the wrong way.
That was until I feel a warm hand on my shoulder. A sensation of tingling, like sparks, erupted the moment our skin came in contact. Weirdly, my panic attack started disappearing and my breathing slowly became normal. I turn around and there stands a greek god. I instantly make contact with a pair of sage green eyes with sparkles of gold. The most gorgeous I've ever seen in my entire life. Dark brown hair, high cheekbones, defined and strong jaw, plump lips. The dreamy man for most women. My nose quickly picked up his smell, a mixture of rain, wet earth, and pines.
"Are you okay Miss? You seemed like you were having a panic attack. "
His voice was deep and rich, and his eyes were filled with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for asking."
I push away his hand with mine, as I don't like a stranger casually touching me. No matter how his touch felt. For a fraction of seconds, I felt sparks again as I brushed my hand against his. Weird.
"No worries. I'm Lucian by the way." A smile small danced on his lips as he extended his arms for a handshake.
"Amber." I shake his hands, and once more I feel those sparks. Is he made of electricity or something?
"Amber...Just like the color of your eyes."
"Yeah, original right?" I said in a chuckle. He let out a small laugh. As he was going to say something, a man came next to him and put his arms around Lucian's shoulders.
"Hey Luci. Sorry to disturb your little chat with this lovely lady, but we got to go."
Why have I never seen those guys before? They're both built like Greek Gods. While Lucian was more of the darker type, his friends had light blond hair and icy blue eyes.
"Guess I'll see you later." Said Lucian.
"Uh..Yeah sure." I replied with a small smile as I made my way towards the hall, following this putrid smell.
Once there, I find no one. Only darkness, illuminated by the moonlight through the huge windows of our school. I look up to the sky and close my eyes as I take a deep breath. Bad move. It was too late for me to sense a presence behind me. As I was about to turn, I receive a blow to the neck. Collapsing to the ground, I manage to see my assailant while the little consciousness I have. A man crouched down, a spine-chilling plastered across his pale, scarred face. Darkness takes over and everything goes black and numb.
I really am the dumb ass chick in horror movies...
