A Viking's Possession

Sophia was surrounded by darkness; she was floating in mid-air. It was to her strange that she felt no fear. The young woman walked in the darkness until feeling something soft yet wet; it felt like...grass. The darkness around her slowly subsided, and color became apparent.

She looked down at her body and noticed that she was wearing a long, plain white dress with a gold-chain belt on her waist, making the dress cling to her body. The environment became apparent, with many green hills and mountains from afar. “Where am I?” Sophia asked herself. “What is this place?”

It felt familiar to her, so she kept on walking until a small city was seen from afar. The houses were built out of wood, straw, or stones; they looked medieval.Sophia was about to walk forward but felt a firm hand on her shoulder. She turned and-

“Miss? Please wake up. We landed.”

“Huh!? What!?”

It was a female flight attendant. “Sorry to wake you, Miss, but the plane landed.”

Sophia looked at her environment; most of the airplane’s occupants were already out. She blushed. “S-Sorry about that. I guess I overslept.”

The flight attendant smiled. “No worries. I know it was a long flight. Please enjoy your stay, and I hope you fly with us again.”

Sophia nodded as she got her carry-on luggage and exited the airplane. The line to customs wasn’t as long, so it went without a hitch. Once out of the airport and inside a taxi, Sophia was driven to the streets.

She finally arrived in Sweden! Her hair flowed with the gentle wind. Sweden was picturesque and filled with beautiful nature.“I can’t believe I overslept again,” she told herself. She decided to visit Sweden because of her dreams after she turned twenty-four. When visiting a tour agency to decide on a country to travel to, a particular magazine stood out: a magazine about Sweden. The cover had a similar description to one of the dreams she had. That was when she decided to go to the country to find out what her dreams meant.

That wasn’t her only motivation; she needed a break from her everyday life since she was in medical school and working as a nurse. She dreamed of working in the medical field ever since her mother died from breast cancer; her father died two years later due to heartbreak. Her thoughts were interrupted when she arrived in a small town where she applied for a bed and breakfast during her stay in Sweden. The taxi driver stopped, parked in front of a small cottage-like house, and helped her get her luggage inside the building. Inside was a middle-aged woman who owned the bed and breakfast, and she assisted Sophia in signing in and putting her things in her room.

With the taxi driver paid and the hostess gone, Sophia jumped on the bed in relief; her body felt jetlagged from her long flight. Even through her exhaustion, she couldn’t help but feel excited about her adventure in Sweden. Tomorrow would be another day, and she hoped that her time in Sweden would help her solve the meaning of her dreams.
