The Breathe I Couldn't Take

Summary

Inasa was a big shot hero. I was just your average citizen. My quirk was Blizzard. I could create Blizzard-like environment. My body could handle the temperature drop, but not forever. It was really by chance that we met. He wasn't doing hero work, but was slightly inebriated. I helped him home and kind got stuck there for the night.😅 I didn't intend for anything to happen other than a "Thank you".

How We Breathe

When I got up for day my day off it was around 2 AM. The only place open was the gas station around the corner. It was a 5-minute walk to get there so I threw on some shorts and a tank top. I took a light jacket just in case it decided to rain.

0

I opened the door to the hallway. I was on the second floor of an apartment complex. So, I took the elevator down to the lobby. I walked out the double doors into the humid Japan summer morning.

0

I hopped down the three front steps and headed down the sidewalk to the store. Midway there I noticed a very intoxicated man stumbling against a building. I would have normally kept walking but I noticed that he was the hero Gale Force. I only knew that because of his TV debut at the Sports Festival.

0

His wind quirk was cool. And the way he used it was fascinating. He was controlling multiple flows wind.

0

'Anyways, stop fangirling,' I thought.

0

I quickened my pace and stood in front of him. He was 6'4" and built like a bodybuilder. My little self at 5'2" was nothing compared to that. I looked at how unstable he was on his feet and wondered just how I would even attempt to help him in the first place.

0

"Hey, you need some help?" I asked.

0

He raised his head to look at me and shook his head slowly. He was fumbling with his pockets. It took me a second to figure out what he was doing. I took his hands, which forced him to look at me. My breath hitched at how dark his eyes were, black was my favorite color.

0

His eyes were heavily lidded, due to his intoxication.

0

"Which pocket is your phone in?" I asked.

0

He sighed audibly and shrugged. Meaning he had no idea. Now I was going to have to look for myself. I figured that the back pockets would the best place to look. I padded the back pockets and realized that only his wallet was in his back pocket. Then I padded the front of his pants and found his phone in the left front pocket. I pulled his phone out of his pocket. It was already unlocked so, I went to his info to see if he saved his address anywhere.

0

Luckily, his apartment wasn't that far from where we were. I didn't want him to get caught by the media. I opened his GPS and hit start. I put his huge arm my shoulders. Holding up his weight was a challenge. My little self was struggling to keep him from falling over.

0

Plus, looking at his phone's GPS I had to make sure we went the right direction while maintaining his weight. I assumed that the paparazzi weren't out this early in the morning. The GPS said the walk time to get there was about 10 minutes. However, with this guy not being able to walk on his own. I knew it would take double the amount of time.

0

He started mumbling something. I actually did understand what he was saying. It was a merge of thank you and some form of trying to apologize for the inconvenience. I smiled to myself because he really thought I was inconvenienced by having to cart my favorite hero to his house.

0

I avoided crosswalks as much as possible. It would take longer to walk across it than it would to just keep using the sidewalk we were already on. As we were getting closer to his address I noticed there was a gate.

0

"Awesome,"I grunted.

0

The gate would have an access panel that needed a code that only he knew.

0

"Hey, can you remember the gate code? " I asked.

0

"57946," he slurred.

0

I repeated the numbers like a mantra as we crossed the empty street to the apartment complex. Well, it was more like a small gated mini mansion. I forgot that he came from money. So, it would make sense that he would live in a small fortress.

0

As I got to the gate I entered the code and the gate opened, slowly. As we walked to the door I realized I now would need keys to unlocked the very tall door we were headed toward. We reached the door step and slowly lowered him and I to the step. So that I pocket could get his keys out of his back pocket without holding most of his weight.

0

Lifting him back up I took the last few steps to the door and found the house key to unlock the door. Once l unlocked it I pushed it open with my foot. I would have been in awe had this been under different circumstances. I found a light switch and turned it on. I heard the door shut behind me.

0

Since I didn't see a couch I walked further into the open living room, I assumed. My shoulders were screaming at me at this point. I noticed a cracked door at the back of the room. I was able to get through the door and was lowering him onto the bed. He kicked out of his shoes as I was lifting his arm from around my shoulders.

0

I sat down to catch my breath and almost immediately his entirety fell on top of me. I gasped due to how heavy he was. There was zero chance of me getting his 6'4" muscular self off of me. Being that he was drunk and I wasn't strong enough to move him myself. I figured I would wait until he moved to a more comfortable sleeping position. That way I could slip out his grasp and go home.

0

I honesty didn't think about how long that would take. Had I actually thought that part out things may have turned out differently.

MaybeInACentury: This is probably the best book I've ever read in a really really long time. I couldn't stop once I started. Golden find. Though I do wish the story was written in present tense rather than in past tense, or had an epilogue about what is happening now, it is a masterpiece.
