Chapter One

On the day Josephine decides to take everything she owes and make the biggest move of her live she is greeted by the mightiest of winds, the greyest of sky’s and the smell of thick damp from the threatening of rain.

She stands before the small town, looking at the sight before her. Josephine had her small yellow rain coat and thick green wellies. She had thought to dress for the weather that threaten, she still logical like that but she realised how crazy she would look with a small beaten suit case by her side her thick wellies and rain coat.

She had read up about this small town La Mary, popular with only a small hundred people maybe even only a thousand. Josephine had not cared, she saw pictures of this small town and the lakes and sunsets, she was sold. She had only two real loves in this world, small towns mysterious places and chocolate.

She found chocolate was a simple way of life, chocolate was the soul of many things, rich with flavour and smooth in texture you could bite into a small bit of chocolate and her toes would curl while she would purr.

Now she stands before the town, on a bad weather day, with the sights of nobody around, but Josephine did not care she had an address and a woman name and she was heading into her future.

Along the way on the small narrow streets made from old bricks uneven and undone by probably hundred of years to ruin em.

Houses build tall, with wooden frames to match the doors, the streets were silent, only the sound of the windows banging while a small breeze went through. Josephine, was now standing in front of the address she had a long speak ready, money at hand. Dora Willer, she had sounded old on the phone little stiff but Josephine did not mind.

The lady home matched her image of her, small, the wooden looked like a good kick would take it down and the walls were spilling leaving the old blue house with ivory patches. Josephine knocked hard twice, pulling her hood down showing her manners, she could hear steps inside and a growling voice, anxious as ever Josephine prayed now.

“Who’s bothering me on a sunday” a voice that sounded like she smoked 20 a day greeted her, a small fragile looking woman, grey hair brushed into a well groomed bun and normal old looking clothes, long grey pleaded skirt hitting her ankles and a matching knitted jumper.

The old woman, who she thought to be Nora now, face was infact old, her face thin and small with shallow cold brown eyes with her thin lips. As Josephine eyed up her hopeful new land lady, she was in fact eyeing up the bright eyed colourful raincoat wearing girl in front of her, as Nora frowned at Josephine, Josephine only smiled more barley able to contain her excitement.

“I said, Who’s bothering me on a damn sunday” the woman groaned at Josephine once more, Josephine only held up her hand to Nora her voiced filled with light

“I’m sorry Madame but we spoke on the phone I’m Josephine Jackson, I wanted to rent that old bakery and the room above it”

Josephine sounded so sure but she felt anything but, the old woman Nora stared at her, she remembered the phone call from a young silly girl but she had not believed she would show up and request it.

“What does a girl like you want with that shop” Nora watched the young girl with judgemental eyes, Josephine could see it also, she was not silly to this. She knew the town past, she had read up enough, the town was once an old catholic French town taken over by the English soldiers and she had a feeling the older people who lived here would question her but this was still the 21st century.

“I want to open a shop of course, I have all the right funds for at least a year. I won’t cause any trouble no problems are after me and I’ll stay out your way.” Josephine reassured Nora, the old woman didn’t seem to care, she simply groaned with displeasure and shut the door behind not saying a single word, Josephine was shocked beyond compare as Nora walked down the street groaning about Sundays and how the weather was terrible.

Josephine tried to hold back the scream of delight inside her, she almost skipped behind the woman, Josephine chocolate brown hair was being thrown about in the wind but she didn’t feel the cold of it, to overjoyed by the dreams of new life awaiting her.

Once rounding a corner, Nora and Josephine was met by the sounds of angry men, gasping woman and the cries of small children, Josephine faced pale at the sight before her, everyone was around in a large circle, the small smell of rotting flesh met her nose then, she had smelt it once before in her life and thought she’d never smell it again.

A man, a dead man, No a dead priest lay before her she only knew what he was because of movies she had seen, Josephine had never been to church before. Nora took a few steps backing into Josephine then, Nora taken aback and recoiling to the horror before her.

“It’s okay, don’t look” Josephine comforted her, bring her hand to rub on her shoulder but Nora again recoiled from Josephine.

“Don’t fuss.” Nora slapped Josephine hand away, rejecting any of Josephine kindness, Josephine held back her smile at the woman, fiery Josephine liked her already.

“Monster!” “A Monster!” men were yelling, the woman holding onto their children tightly, trying to cover their innocent eyes at the blood shed around them at this moment. Josephine took notice then to see the Priest throat had been clean ripped out, blood covering his throat and the top part of his rope.

“We found him in the edge of the woods! surrounded by large wolf prints!”

Josephine and Nora watched curiously at the sight before them, a man wearing a expensive suit stood fourth then, larger in body weight and a little shorter than the other young men but Josephine noticed how some of the younger boys looked to him over each other.

“Priest John was found in the edge of the woods, surrounded by wolf prints you say? take a few men with you and take a look! someone come and give his man his respect! ” The man barked orders and to much of Josephine surprise everyone ran to attention, Josephine couldn’t help notice how Nora crossed her arms at the new mysterious man before them she even notice how Nora lip curled at him also.

“What’s going on here Mayor Sinvolt” another loud more demanding voice broke through the angry group then, Josephine looked over to a small group of men. Josephine noticed how they were better men, good looking all tall and well built, the one who spoke was the oldest, clean shaved and well groomed. He wore a simple dress shirt and jeans with boots to match.

“Mr Wolf can you spare a few men, we are putting together a group of young men to look for a wild animal” The fatter man spoke, the man Josephine now knew was called Mr wolf.

Mr Wolf spoke the two younger men around him, Josephine noticed how you could see clearly the men around Mr wolf and the group around the fat man were so far apart, the tension thick. Josephine didn’t notice how the closet men standing next to Mr Wolf wasn’t staring at the dead body or the fat man he was staring at her, the younger man was noticing how every man here was also looking at her also, how she was new here he could smell it on her.

The yellow rain coat gave it away anyway but the younger man, couldn’t help but see how beautiful she was, he did in fact pull away from her beautiful face when his father Mr Wolf nudge him to bring his attention back to the chat around them.

“My son Sebastian and Matthew will come with you, I can’t spare no more at the mill today Sinvolt” Mr Wolf told Sinvolt, Sinvolt wanted to argue, he knew they could spare more but this wasn’t the place for any of that.

Josephine looked over to Sebastian, she couldn’t help but see how beautiful he was, rich black hair cut nicely not to long but enough to be able to run her hands threw it and pull on it when she moaned. Sebastian dark brown eyes met Josephine blue ones then, she blushed deeply and looked away. Sebastian couldn't help but smile at catching the new one staring at him also.

"Come on dear I'm bored of this" Nora groaned once more, reminding Josephine that she was even there in front of her, Nora walked off then, Josephine only took off behind her.

Josephine forced herself not to look back at the mysterious god like man named Sebastian.
