"Ahh fuck." Jared hissed. He pulled back his hand and saw blood welling up from where the knife sliced his hand and soaked into his oat nut bread. Shit, he thought as he reached out for the roll of paper napkin. He ripped two sheets off and pressed it against his palm. Of all the days to get cut. He hissed, hating how much it stung.
"Jar?" A groggy voice called. "You good?"
"I—I'm fine, babe. Nothing serious." He called back, trying to wipe the counter with his other hand.
Luca entered the kitchen, his boxer briefs hanging low on his waist, his long shaggy brown hair a mess, and his chest bare as he scratched at his dark beard. "Jared?" He yawned, opening his eyes to see drops of blood on the counter. He found his boyfriend's eyes, then saw him holding the bloody sheets of paper towel to his hand. "Fuckin' hell!" He cried out as he stomped over to him. Jared tried to protest but Luca swiftly ignored him. He grabbed Jared's wrist, carefully examining his injury as he removed the paper towel from his grasp. He sighed, and tugged his lover over to the sink where he opened the water on the younger man's palm. Jared grunted, squinting his eyes as the burning pain shot up his arm. "Oh, stop fussing. How'd you even fuckin' do this?"
"I was making a sandwich and I got distracted." He explained, annoyed that he had gotten hurt during such a hectic week.
"Let me guess, you were on the phone and couldn't possibly take a damn minute away from it to make breakfast." Luca said, catching Jared's blue eyes.
The younger man rolled his eyes and groaned. "Oh, stop it Luca, you know that—"
"I know that you weren't taking on what you were doing, and ended up nearly severing your fucking hand!" He snapped. His green eyes met with Jared's again and he sighed at the sad look he had in them. He shook his head as he grumbled underneath his breath.
Jared pulled his hand back and pouted. "The call was important." He replied softly.
"No. You're important Jared." Luca reached for his hand and held it up for him to see. "This is important. Be thankful it wasn't any deeper or you'd need stitches." He looked at his lover's cut then kissed the indent of his palm where the cut ran from along the first line near Jared's thumb on his left hand. "Be thankful that I don't feel like arguing about this." Luca gave Jared back his hand and turned to head out of the kitchen. "Sit down and don't touch anything. I'll be right back."
Jared scoffed at him as he disappeared around the corner. He exhaled as he observed the clean cut on his hand. He hadn't even felt it until he spotted the blood on the knife. He was so busy reading over his files while he emailed his coworker about the case. He knew that Luca had every right to be mad, but that didn't mean that he'd just sit back and let him be angry.
Luca's footfall rounded the corner then he entered the kitchen carrying a first aid kit. He set it on the counter, also having brought with him a clean white hand towel that he laid out on the island. "Rest your hand here and open please." Luca ordered.
"Luca, this is..." the hard glare of Luca ceased Jared's complaint.
"Open it." He repeated.
Jared obeyed, patiently watching his boyfriend now, since he had little choice to opt out of this one.
He took an alcohol wipe and spared a glimpse at Jared who was waiting obediently with his eyes focused on his hand. Blood was already leaking out of the wound as Luca pressed the alcohol wipe on his cut.
"Fuck."
He gripped Jared wrist to keep him from moving back. "Remember how painful this is the next time you think that it's smart to use a knife so carelessly."
He dabbed away the blood and cleaned the wound carefully then dropped the wipe into the trash near his hip. He then applied antibiotic cream to the cut. Jared looked at the large hands of his boyfriend that moved so effortlessly as if he had done this before and sighed. He never intended to get himself hurt like this, and to have Luca clean it up, but here they were.
He almost didn't notice that Luca had tied his long dark brown hair back with a silk hairtie and smiled as he noticed the few strands that he had missed while pulling his hair back.
After Luca was done he reached for a fresh packet of bandage. "I'm going to wrap this around your hand." Luca stated. Jared nodded and then watched as he carefully twirled the bandage around his hand, making sure it was tight enough but not uncomfortable. He taped the edge down with a strong adhesive medical tape when he was done and then began cleaning up the island.
"Thank you Luca." Jared said as he stood up.
"Your welcome. Sometimes it's still surprises me how you've survive thirty-six years of life."
Jared chuckled running his good hand through his thick black hair, brushing it back as he looked at the mess that he had made of his breakfast on the counter. Luca didn't say anything more as he began cleaning that up too, throwing the bloody sandwich out in the process. "Are you mad now?" He asked, his blue eyes following the taller man around.
"No. Why would I be? My hands are perfectly fine." He threw away the dirty paper towels and used clorox wipes to clean up the blood. "Do you go in to work today?"
"No, I just had a shit ton of paperwork to look through for this case I'm helping with."
Luca only hummed a reply. "Do it later."
Jared scoffed. "Luca, I have a lot of work that I need to do. I'm sorry, but I'll rest later."
Luca turned around then and caught the wrist of the hand that Jared hurt and pulled him back in. "No. You don't know when to take it easy, so you'll eat breakfast, rest your hand, then you'll get your work done later."
His deep voice held a finality that made Jared glare at him unimpressed. "I don't need you to baby me."
"Fuckin'... no one's babying you—" Jared's phone began to vibrate from where it sat on the table and the men both snapped around to look at it. Luca smirked and dashed forward for the phone, nudging Jared out of the way. The taller man had snatched the phone up first and laughed with gusto.
"Give that back Luc!"
"Give what back? This?" He asked waving the phone before his face.
"I'm not fucking around. That's important!"
"Important? You don't even know who's calling." He jumped away from him and ran to the opposite side of the island.
"Oh... you're walking on dangerous waters, Luca Jones."
"Oh, am I?" His grin was wide and his eyes filled with laughter. "And what, are you gonna cut me like you did your hand?" He laughed and Jared reached out to try and snatch the phone that was still ringing but Luca pulled back, moving away from him as they rounded the island. "Too slow, lover." He laughed again, teasing the poor man.
Jared gritted his teeth.
"Maybe I should answer it, would that be okay Jar?"
"No, Luca stop playing around." He ordered, getting fed up.
"Hmm, Erin Connell. Who's he? Maybe I'll just ask." He stopped and held the phone to swipe at the screen.
Jared's eyes went wide at the mention of his boss's name. "LUCA!" The man dove forward, tackling Luca as they fumbled and then Luca lost his balance. He threw his arms around Jared as they fell into the next room which thankfully had a plush carpet to cushion the weighted fall of the both of them.
Luca coughed. "Fuck. Ow."
"Bastard! Why would you do that?" Jared cried out as he lifted his head. His eyes searching Luca's face as his hands reached out to touch the back of his head to make sure that he hadn't injured himself.
"Urgh, fuck Jar. I was just playing around."
Jared sighed when he found no bump or blood, then rested his forehead to Luca's chin. "That's not funny, baby... was Erin really calling?"
Luca met Jared's soft blue eyes and shook his head. "No, it was Colin, he left a voice-mail. Sorry."
Jared bit his bottom lip. "No... I apologize. Bloody hell."
Luca snickered, noticing that Jared had let his accent slip through in his flustered state. Sometimes he would almost forget that he was British, but at times like this... not particularly in this mess but in times when he was too spent to care, he'd let it through. Luca lifted a hand and ran his fingers back through Jared's hair that had come undone and smiled softly. "You need to take a break from work. You can't even relax on your day off. You got yourself injured and you nearly hurt me."
Jared groaned. "Baby, I'm sorry I didn't mean to."
"I know darling. Come on, get up, you're heavy." Luca stated.
Jared snickered. "Oh really, and you aren't?"
"Of course I am, now get off." Luca said hurrying him.
The younger man chuckled but rolled off of his lover and sat up. Luca sat up and got to his feet then bent to lend Jared a hand and helped him up by his good hand. "How's your hand?"
"I'll survive," as if on clockwork his belly growled to life, "and I'm hungry."
"I'll make you something. Sandwich?" Luca offered walking towards the fridge. Jared cringed and shook his head. "No, thank you."
"Ha, waffles and sausage?"
"Please and thank you." Jared said. Luca turned and admired the man that he was in love with and smiled at him. "You know. I have yet to kiss you good morning before we begun our usual argument."
A stiffled laugh escaped Jared's lips and he turned around and strode over to the fridge and pressed his lips to his lover's, savoring his kiss. "Good morning Luca."
The other man smiled, licking his lips. "Good morning Jared."
