Prologue
The sun shone through the light grey curtains onto the family picture hung on the wall. The smell of bacon and eggs in the air as an alarm upstairs beeped for the third time. “Lydia wake up we are going to be late!” Slowly she got out of her bed and got dressed. “Did you forget about the tour of the lab today?” Her mother asked in a slightly downcast tone while cleaning a glass “Dr. Ward said he was excited to meet you,” She put the rag down and sat at the table, “you talk about me at work?” Lydia asked. “Well you are my daughter, and you're quite smart” Her mother smiled warmly, “of course I would want you to have an amazing job, and what's better than working at the lab!” When they moved Lydia had always been interested in the lab, and what they did in there. She dreamed of going to work there after graduating. Dr. Darius Ward is the head of scientific research that has made the world what it is today. Pollution was down by 70 percent from 5 years ago, and extinct species have been brought back. “Alright, ready to go?” Her mom picked up the keys and held the door open. The streets were quite clean, with beautiful chalk art covering the sidewalks. Most of the buildings have plants growing around the windows and on the roofs but one large building stood out. Big light blue letters spelled out ‘Darham Institute of Science’ and people walked in and out of the large sliding doors. “Okay, let's go,” her mom said, opening her car door in the process. They walk through the doors, a tall man was walking toward them with his eyes glued to his watch. “Hm, 8:30, you, Ms. Foster, are right on time,” the tall man said with a wide grin. He had long, dark hair and a stronger build. “This must be Lydia, it's a pleasure to meet you.” he held out his hand. “You're Dr. Ward?” she shook his hand hesitantly. “Yes indeed, I've heard nothing but amazing things about you.”
